I think Kei occupies herself more with the acting piece of singing, which might be why she is a bit choppier. Nice to see Bora appreciation though!

In a lot of korean songs they end frases like that because is somehow a way to vocaly express being sad or being hurt. Like some kind of acting in singing. It is more like an artistic decision than a tecnical thing.

Could it be Kei's background as a musical actress that lends to the "choppier" phrasing in that particular section that you talked about? I know that idols tend to get torn apart in the Korean musical scene if their enunciation is off, so I think that Kei sings each word very deliberately because of that. This Queendom Puzzle show was actually her first step back into the idol world after doing only musicals for the past couple of years.

also Bora's mother (a vocal coach) has been helping with her vocal training since she was a little kid and it shows because she seems really confident as a vocalist, with high or low notes, so comparing her with Kei we can see a lot of differences even if both are great main vocalists

actually kei's "choppier" phrasing tends to be the traditional style of choice in most of k ballads (pronouncing each word clearly to do acting on stage on top of singing), leaving most korean comments on that mnet video saying bora's a great singer, but emtion-wise there's a big gap between her and kei i personally love them both. just interesting to see cultural differences in vocals too

I think the opening of Kei is not because of nerves but a style of expressing sadness which is the song, and Bora's phrasing is acute but just less emotional.

They were actually a team and was facing off another team! As a performance, this was definitely the best VOCAL stage on the show itself imo. Queendom Puzzle was a show where 26 current female idols from different groups competed to become a 7 member project group.(similar to GOT The Beat or SuperM) Kei got into the final lineup but Bora was eliminated in the semi-final sadly.

Bora and Kei are spectacular, in this contest a new group of 7 girls was being defined, for reasons of the program Bora and Kei were always rivals because they were the best vocalists but in this song they were not rivals, but rather partners who competed against another group and when Bora and Kei got together we all knew they were going to win, in fact the rest of the contestants on the show said that it was unfair for them to team up, that their voices were unfair, Kei has been a K-pop artist for more than 10 years and Bora more than 5 years old, both are recognized for being great vocalists, especially Kei since Bora is very underrated but we cannot deny that her vocals are incredible... Curious fact is that Kei was able to obtain one of the 7 winning places and unfortunately Bora was eliminated in the semifinal since it was by public vote and as I said Bora is very undervalued and unfortunately is not very loved in Korea.

i must be one of the few people who doesn't like bora's voice (nothing against her) it's just so high and sometimes sounds like screeching to me (i'm no expert just my preference - also have autisim and high pitched sounds make me flinch aha) anyway kei's voice is like heaven to my ears 💞

I love Kei, and I completely agree with you that her lower range is much weaker than her higher range. I agree though that Bora clearly gave the better performance here - thankfully it was this team versus another team in the show. I think both girls gave a lot of emotion and heart and both really ended strongly! (and don't worry, I'm already deciding what to pick for my next sponsored video!)
