I'm not Arab, but one day I passed by a mosque and I heard a Syrian man singing a religious hymn in Arabic and it was the most majestic sound I ever heard live. I stayed till the end of it and was truly mesmerized (later found out where he was from and the langauge).

I will tell you why, in Arabic and in the Arab world everything has a meaning like people's names ...etc, you heard those long vocals with the runs and melismas and so on, those are cries of pain, it is like saying "ouch" in English, now the evolution of the Arabic song made it where you kind of tell a story reciting those cries of pain, and that what shows who is a better singer. So you got emotional because they deliver very good stories with those cries of pains, BTW very little to no Arabic is in this clip hence cries of pain, and so it got to you, you got it because they where not speaking/singing Arabic they where just crying.

I am an Arab and I sing only in English because our scales and runs and singing norms are just.... insanely hard. And what’s more insane is how professional reciters sound when they read Quran, our holy book. Muslims don’t read Quran like any other book, we do something called “Tajweed” and it is to read it in a scale along with little rules for pronunciations, and to improvise with that; quite similar to singing. The best of these readers get to lead the prayers in big mosques and everyone can hear them and follow with them during the prayer. Apart from this being a religious thing, the techniques and runs and skills performed in that are almost otherworldly, and it’s rare to hear anything alike that anywhere else.

You react to the legends of Arabic music like Fayrooz, Sabah Fakhri, Abdel wehab, Adel Emam, Um Kalthom, and Majda el Roomie. The thing about is that at the Time of their hayday the sound system were so primitive that we sadly don't get to enjoy their legendary voices, but still, they sound so legendary in that retro sound system. Imagine them with modern sound system.

Arabic singers hits some notes that are not usually for non arabs because of the arabic language , it has rich prononciations .sounds , so thats makes arabs hoarseness unique. example < ح > like حبيبي the sound for non arabes will be with but it not, in Arabic will sound like the letter < ه > so there is no < ح > for non arabes so most cant even pronounce it .. so it kinda limits their vocal abilities , other example < ق > for non arabes it will sound like < K > but in arabic you have sounds like < ك > but you dont find < ق > for non arabes and there is more ..
