After a new injector harness, HPOP and lines, ICP, IPR, glow plugs, and valve cover gasket, I’m finally taking those injectors out putting new cups, o rings, and shims!

thats where im at now too. how did it go?

I just got done doing o rings, wish I'd known. Fixed my stalling problem but now the longer it sits there longer it takes too start. Thanks for the video very helpful.

Would have been a good time to check it out for sure

@@LifeWithChase Makes 0 sense to shim up the solenoid. The poppet can only go so far up. All that needs to be done is shim up the armature to 3 to 4.

7.3 Non of my injectors are working. I have replaced cps, irp, icp . My hpop is full. Fuses good relays replied. Will start with starter fluid then die after burns off. Took the idm apart looks good no water. Fuel is getting to the bowl. All new parts oem. Good rmp signal. What could be stopping the injectors

I know this is an old video, but hopefully this will help someone! Think about what is being worn on the injector! The poppet valve..not the solenoid! If the factory clearance was .004 new and now, let's say it's. 002! Then shimming the poppet valve only, by .002 will bring it back to specifications of .004! The solenoid didn't move or wear, so why would you need to shim it? I have watched several videos where they shim the solenoid, but once again the poppet valve is the part that is being worn! If someone out there sees this differently, please comment on what I'm not seeing? Thanks.

agree. injectors are expensive. This is just a hack thats cheap and east to do
@josephbradley65154 жыл бұрын
How long did it take you to do the full job?
@MrRonny4204 жыл бұрын
What about the Solenoid clearance? The armature plate is now that much closer to the solenoid, sounds like a great idea until you run the injectors on a test stand.
@jeramiet1543 жыл бұрын
That's why you shim the solenoid as well, you're supposed to shim the solenoid .001" more than the armature to accommodate the excess length between the top seat of the poppet valve and the armature PLUS top side poppet wear.
@MrRonny4203 жыл бұрын
How many injectors have you ran on a test stand?
@jeramiet1543 жыл бұрын
@@MrRonny420 none, but I understand the concept... idk how much clearance there is or should be between the solenoid and armature but it can be compensated for. It's just a matter of whether the gap between the two is too great after shimming to function, but other than poppet replacement theres no other way to eliminate the excess travel caused by wear.

So basically whatever you shim the pop it valve at. you s h i m the solenoid the same.

Same specs for a 1996 AA injectors??? Thank you!!!
@thor68372rockon5 жыл бұрын
yes, it is the same. If it has high miles & you have never changed the O-rings, I would suggest you change the O-rings also, internal & external, along with the internal springs, it will save you a headache later on down the road, along with the shim kit for the solenoids. I have done three 7.3L powerstrokes already, 1996, 1999, 2002, I have never had to buy new injectors, ever. They are tough but need TLC, maintenance is key.

I have a '01 7.3 with about 250,000 miles on it. It seems to stumble and run rough at 1,700 rpm at 40 mph, very noticeable going up a slight grade. Starts and idles good, smooths out above 1,700 rpm. I will give this shim procedure a shot. Thanks for all of the details you showed in the video.About how many miles is on the truck in your video?

at 21:15 I read what the odometer has on it. showing 165,415 miles.

Dumb question. Did you change the valve cover gaskets?
@LifeWithChase5 жыл бұрын
No, they are reusable and they tested good. they did have problems with some of them though, usually runs rough will have 1 or 2 cylinders not firing
@norwoodcooper39295 жыл бұрын
it could be you do not have enough oil pressure you can change the o rings with out removing the pump the lest little Nik in the o ring will effect the oil pressure '
