I'm still not over the "Did the twin flame bruise paint you blue?" line. IT'S ABSOLUTE GENIUS. if you didn't know, the concept of a "twin flame" comes from the romantic myth that a soul is split into two halves when you're born and the other half of your soul resides in your soulmate. also, this line has the extra layer that they're both Sagittarius (a fire sign. "twin fire signs, four blue eyes"). the final nail in the coffin is the "blue" part because the hottest part of a flame is always the blue part. she's literally asking him "did this love burn you as much as it burnt me, soulmate?" SHE'S INSANE * sobbing *

"When your Brooklyn broke my skin and bones" is also a play on words because saying someone looks "Brooklyn broke" is a slang term for someone who dresses like they don't have money but they actually do. Jake is notorious for dressing like someone dragged him through a thrift store clothes rack despite having the money to actually dress fashionably. In that sense, it's also a tie-in to '22' because of the lyric "It feels like the perfect night to dress up like hipsters and make fun of our exes." I swear to god, this woman is a genius. 💀

@@aubrey8954 * She wrote Bad Blood about Katy Perry, cause she was upset over dancers being pulled from her. When in reality, the real reason is clearly due to Katy Perry dating John Mayer, which clearly put her off. Nothing wrong about writing a song about anyone she wants, but having a whole video campaign about pitting woman against Katy, and trying to find every big A-list name she could pull as me vs you, was whack. What doubles down her pettiness? The fact that she backtracks years later and went out of her way to blame “the media” when it was her who was out for revenge regarding Katy. She also posts a picture of Katy’s Olive Branch gift, with the words stating she is sorry. Which came across as really childish. If Katy never had apologised to her, Taylor would be still taking shots at her (purposely dropping her catalogue release on Spotify the day Katy Perry dropped her album.)

On another note. I was crying like a baby when I heard the lyrics " it's supposed to be fun, turning 21". I'm heartbroken for her that she had to go through such a painful thing on her 21 birthday. I mean, it's a big deal for everyone, right? But then one year later she had her "I don't know about you, but i'm feeling 22" moment, so empowering, coming of age..so glad that her 22 birthday was the one she would have deserved on her 21st

I've never considered myself a Taylor Swift fan, although I have enjoyed her hits on the radio. Since I've delved into this album and started actually analyzing the lyrics, I'm struck by how talented and masterful she truly is.

Yeah, she really is. It's sad how some people still see her as a "typical main pop girl" with her hit songs. They really don't know what they're missing out and how genius she is. Many people think all of her fans are just shallow kids or teenagers with nothing else to do but they don't know that Taylor has THIS side. She's been showing it in all her albums- it's just typically not her main tracks but they're still treasure nevertheless.

@@uhmokay5995 * She wrote Bad Blood about Katy Perry, cause she was upset over dancers being pulled from her.

“In this city’s barren cold, I still remember the first fall of snow, and how it glistened as it fell.” Is now one of my FAVOURITE Taylor lyrics ever. It’s like she’s saying he was almost incapable of loving her, how she almost knew that going into the relationship with him but still hoped for something, but then he started showing signs that he was growing distant from her, but how even then she looked for beauty in him. That first fall of snow, those very first signs that you’re losing him, mixed in with the beauty of it glistening.
@hammypack60773 жыл бұрын
This is my favorite (new) line as well. I didn't get it at first, but I see the first fall of snow as the beautiful glistening beginning of the relationship, and the city's barren cold as the harsh reality that she's living in after the beauty has gone away.

To me it seems like once the barren cold of winter hits, you almost can't seem to remember what it was like when it was first starting to get a little chilly, that the harsh cold just takes over your memories. But, she remembers even what the first fall of snow felt like. She remembers every.single.detail. It's so powerful.

“A never needy, ever lovely jewel, whose shine reflects on you” made me think of Mirrorball!!! 🧣 The Short Film part of Sadie washing dishes made me think of “I sit and listеn, I polish plates until they gleam and glistеn. You're so much older and wiser and I” Also in the Short Film. The very beginning where Sadie is like “are you real? I feel like I made you up” and the outro has this beautiful repetition, like “flashbacks and echoes”. Almost as if she’s convincing herself it did happen, he was real. A soft acceptance and release of what once was. Love that the song starts in Autumn and ends with the first fall of snow.

I love how this version and the short film completely change the meaning...'I remember it all too well' used to feel sweet and nostalgic and sentimental, now it feels like she is addressing the gaslighting he did in their relationship. She is telling him he can't pretend the relationship wasn't real or rare or powerful, or that he didn't treat her like shit, because she remembers it ALL. I don't know if you guys addressed this concept or not but I believe the reason Taylor kept repeating " I was there " ( especially in the 10 minute version) is because he made her feel like everything they've been through wasn't in fact what she thought it was. She had the idea that it was love which he refused to admit and so when he broke up with her there was this gaslighting/ manipulation feel that he didn’t see it the way she did which maybe made her doubt all the moments they've experienced that were pure love, so she keeps repeating the concept of I was there I am sure I remember it in an attempt to prove that it in fact happened the way she saw it. I don't know if that makes sense but it's very striking after the short film and the 10 minute version! I love you so much, guyss

OMG I JUST REALIZED SOMETHING Cara was so right about the saying “I love you” after they break up, Taylor even alludes to it slightly in we are never ever getting back together: “you hate me, we break up, you call me , I love you” Such a small detail but it confirms that he never said it was love until it was all over… shit I CANT BELIevE THIS

Also in Sad, Beautiful Tragic when she says "Words, how little they mean when you're a little too late."

It has been 1 year of RED Taylor's version. But I'm still here. Cause this is too iconic.

"it's supposed to be fun, turning twenty one" *shocked hurt noises* that kills me, I had that that is the memory she has of turning twenty one

That line "it's supposed to be fun turning 21" is so sad for me 🥺 but she also said in her RED album "I DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU, BUT I'M FEELING 22" means she already moved on about what just happened in her past years ❤️

I’m just unwell over the fact that in an interview Taylor said that some of the vault tracks are songs that were meant to be on the next album but didn’t end up on it. So….. does that mean that on 1989 TV we might get some songs meant for TS6 before Reputation??? A very concerning thought

Oh My God I didn't think of it like that. We could finally get to know what she was working on originally before the Ka*** debacle.

there are some tracks on there that I feel belong on 1989 (or represent the transition to 1989) so I am happy i'm not alone in this haha

I once heard that a lot of the songs on Lover were originally written during her 1989 era and she planned to make a more Lover-esque album a lot earlier, but when the drama with Kanye happened she shelved everything and went in a totally different direction with Reputation.
