Love my people, the incredible NICHOLAS BROTHERS and ever stunning DOROTHY DANDRIDGE showing us all how it's done during Hollywood's Golden Age.

I love your people, too! I can’t watch this enough! My father was a piano 🎹 player; they called him Duke. We grew up listening to the big bands every weekend. Nat ‘King’ Cole and Lena Horne were among my parents’ favorites. 🎶 🖤🤍😀

Yes. It sometimes brings a (happy) tear to my eye when I watch people like the Nicholas brothers, Dorothy Dandridge, Thelonious Monk, Sammy Davis, The Temptations, Nat King Cole, Dizzy Gillespie... you get the idea. Oh how I love the performing arts.

I really appreciate your sentiment here. Without black people and their amazing music and culture America would be an even more miserable and unhappy place than it is now. One of the most terrible ironies of the history of black music is how often the great black musicians were terribly abused during their lifetimes (e.g., Lester Young and Bud Powell) yet after their deaths they suddenly become celebrated as "great artists." But we never appreciated them when they were alive! The situation, I think, is better now but historically the lives of many of the best musicians were just full of grief. 😢

So I work with dementia service users, and one of the lady's "Margaret "celebrated her 💯th birthday. Now I'm one of the older carers there so I'm familiar with all the older songs,so I just started to sing this and Margaret started to sing along ,oooh my she sang it word to word, beginning to end,now let me tell you all the time I've worked in care this has just melted my heart, £8.91 shocking for the amount of care we do,but this day I would have worked for nothing, just seeing her happy, smiling and singing.👏👏👏👏👏👏 I applaud you Margaret. And a letter off the Queen. Oh and Margaret's nickname is Queenie.

Man, if you can't get down with that bass line and those drum rim shots there's something wrong with your mojo. Imagine all this great music going on in the middle of WWII! People were invigorated by the Big Band sound and we grew it right here in the good old USA. It's great to see Miss Dandridge here, a great star.

The Miller Orchestra comes up with a fresh and fitting arrangement of CHATTANOOGA CHOO CHOO for this film clip. The Nicolas Brothers are amazing, and too little-known today. Dorothy Dandridge is talented, young and lovely here.

@@januquariaspace683 Speaking of Jackie Wilson, I've been a Tony Bennett fan since I was a little kid... and even then, I was mimicking his rendition of "Rags to Riches" after my folks first bought a CD that had quite a number of his hits (CDs just hit the market), so that tells you how old I might be (i won't confirm or deny anything!). But years.... decades... later, when I played a little PC game called "Mafia 2", it came bundled with quite a large collection of songs from the 1940's and 1950's.... that's when I was introduced to Jackie Wilson's performance of that same song....... and get this: it totally blows Tony Bennett's version out of the water! Have a listen! kzbin.info/www/bejne/rojCgZ5rh5pmr5I
