It’s a shame that I cannot upload a photo of the soap. Looks really beautiful. However, I already try a little piece for testing and it dried my skin. I mean, I feel my hand really dried. Is it possible that the batter was not ready when I poured it in the mold or do you thing it’s just a matter of let it cure and try later? What do you think it could happen? I have to say that the only oil I changed was the rice and I added sunflower instead. I would appreciate your opinion. Thank you!

I use frozen goat milk and an ice bath because I don’t like my GM/Lye to get above 75F. I ended up making about 6 1/2 pounds of GMS in a dish pan; then I weighed out enough batter to fill a mold, add some fragrance, our, clean out the bowl and on to the next mold. Made seven different scents including Oatmeal Milk & Honey.

Have you used the silk yet? You might have already found out but put the silk in the lye when the lye is or is going to get its hottest when the water is added. Otherwise, youll have a stringy mess that looks like you just pulled a glob of hair out of your bath tub.

Is it a 50/50 blend . I see oil blends in the supermarket but there are no % amts in the ingredients I cannot use them..Praying you and your family will stay safe !
@EllenRuthSoap
@EllenRuthSoap 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, and thank you! I've had a few times when the lye mixer wasn't warm enough to melt the silk. You could try melting the silk in a small portion of the water (like boil it in, then let it cool) before adding lye, if you continue to have issues.?. And my olive/rice bran is a 50/50 blend.

Thank you so much for sharing your recipe & knowledge about soap making.Your soaps are gorgeous!Love it! Would like to ask if you use olive pomace to make soap instead of extra virgin/pure olive oil? No offense, I'm using olive pomace too. But there's some people said that pomace is the lowest grade&not suitable to make soap. Thanks!

Hello Ellen! I have been curious about if can I replace the milk powder for “Vega Protein “ powder that is a vegan powder for milkshakes style drink? If I added to the oils before the lye, would it work? And also been all this component seeds, veggies and coconut milk, would not spoil or rotten in my soap?? Thank you in advance and thanks for sharing all this videos with us. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️

That's a great question, and I'm not sure because I haven't tried that sub yet. I would recommend a small test batch. The sodium hydroxide acts as a preservative in soap, so puree's and different additives don't spoil after saponification...

Thanks, and welcome! Glad you're here! There are lots of tutorials out there on how to use soap calc, and I would really recommend that before soaping. That way you can customize each recipe to fit what ever size mold you have... I use approx 5% super fat or sometimes a touch more😉

Last I heard, or tried, Soap calc will not convert her recipe to your mold. It probably will tell you the percentage and ounces of each oil but it will not make the recipe fit your mold which could waste alot of oil. To do that you either have to know how much oil your mold will hold and then know how to convert or have a lye calculator that does it for you. Look on Etsy.

Hi Ellen, thank you so much for this well explained video. :D 😍 May I ask what percentage of liquid you used for this recipe? I'm a beginner and I always have problems with a quick trace before adding essential oils.. :( Is it because of the temperature or the percentage of liquid? I usually had 37-40 degrees Celsius..

What if you plug into soapcalc 32 oz of oil for your mold, it spits out its percentages and oz's for you to copy and your your mold really only holds 25 oz of soap or your mold could hold 40 oz of oil?!
