Many people being so hard on this guy. I believe the Honda is a better unit which is why I purchased one. However, having owned it for 4 years, I’ve never used it accept to start it occasionally as recommended. The generator here was reviewed because not everyone can afford the Honda. Will it last as long, maybe not, but how often do these things get used? In my case, I may have been fine with a less expensive option, but I wasn’t aware. No need for the negative comments here. Are you going to knock reviews on a Toyota and insist people buy a Lexus? -----Thanks for this review, it contains useful information. Just don’t see why people feel the need to be so negative.

Some of the comments on here are hilarious. "I've had my Honda running it 29 hours a day, twelve days a week and it has never failed me". (Obvious sarcasm) Cool story. Most probably your average guy looking at a generator review on KZbin isn't buying this for daily use. They are probably wanting something economical, light, easy to use, and relatively durable for camping, maybe backup for a power outage at home, etc. I'm sure that Honda is amazing. It's also $1200+. If you're going to use the hell out of something, anything, it stands to reason that your price sensitivity is different than the guy using it a couple times a year. FWIW this generator gets really solid reviews and you can find people who have put hundreds if not thousands of hours into it. I'm betting that's more than what your average buyer of this price point generator will demand in its lifetime.

Honda has a built in fuel pump which allows you to use a companion tank. Depending on my location I bring a 2, 3 or 5 gallon can. This prevents having to fill the generator every 8 hours. We were in a 24 hour thunderstorm and I didn't have to refill my Honda 2000. I have had this unit since they first came out. Change the oil and spark plug, clean the air filter every season. We use it 2-3 times per month. It worked perfect during our California blackouts. Didn't have to refill for 3 days. It ran 24 hours a day. Luv my Honda!

Good generators yes, same as the Honda 200i, no. But it works for us. After powering up on full power I use the eco mode and get 13 hours per tank (1.3 gallon). Good review and and thanks

I've got to add my two cents here. I lease a year round vacation lot in a nature reserve in northern Canada with 270 other people. Almost everyone here uses honda generators because they've proven themselves over and over again even against Yamaha and other top brands. They get heavy usage here. I see a lot of bragging about Honda snow blowers and I am sure they are very good but paying over 3,000 is crazy town. I have a Chinese Suitcase generator called Senci which uses a Yamaha engine and was well over half the price of the Honda. It now has over 4500 hours on the meter which I bought separately for the oil changes. The only replacement to date was a new pull cord it’s very well built and would defiantly recommend. Honda although reliable is now a very expensive brand to buy in comparison.

Just received by Generac GP1200i yesterday and it ran like a champ. Change the oil at one hour using various loads; changed the oil at hour two same loads. Now were ready for that unexpected storm or recreation use. I feel that as long as one performs the required maintenance and keeps the loads reasonable (for me 80% or lower of run load range) it will last. No ethanol fuel and monthly cycles are key in my opinion.

A guy on another channel had one of these for a year. He was having trouble starting it low on oil. The oil hadn't been changed for over 300 hrs and was placed on a tilted platform towards the oil fill port. He never did put it on a level surface to fill it properly but at least changed the oil in this poor thing. If you do tilt it, tilt it the other way if you are so busy you can't be bothered to change the oil. All this speaks well for this unit.

Sorry in advance for the long winded post but I have some things to say about this generator and generators in this price range. It is a complex topic. I own 3 generators all 240v so you might have to extrapolate my numbers for 110v but the concepts are sound. A single cylinder Diesel 7kva, and 2x V twin portable gas generators one of which is 3 phase. I live off grid so I know a thing or two about generators. I weld from home. On top of that I'm a qualified mechanic. Also, *I don't own a Honda generator* The thing with Honda generators is this: they have amazingly long lives. Also in favor of Honda is that they're incredibly durable. I have a creek at the back of my place. My neighbor pumps water into his concrete tanks for fire fighting purposes over summer before the creek stops flowing. Twice now, he's forgotten his Honda generator was down at the creek as he has solar and during the longer days doesn't need the generator to charge his batteries. After a few days of constant rain it has become completely submerged for days when the creek floods a bit. One time it washed downstream for some distance. Both times I've drained the fuel tank and crankcase, removed and cleaned the carb, blown it all out and replaced the filters. It has started right up and is probably running as I'm writing this to you. I don't know how many hours are on it but I would say between 7500 and 15,000hrs. It is about 9-10 years old and it runs many days for 9 months of the year. Not bad for an inverter generator! If this generator in your review could do 5000hrs (I assert highly unlikely) then it would equal the Honda considering the price if the Honda is 3 times more expensive, however, the trump card as I see for the Honda is it's still supported after all this time. Additionally, the Honda generator section is far higher quality than this will ever be and it is doubtful any part of this generator could ever be repaired economically. As I see it, the generator in your review has a really excellent feature and that is it can be coupled to the same generator. The Honda can also be coupled but 2x Honda generators is very expensive proposition and dare I say one might be better off with a 'portable' V twin type of 12-13kva (wheels and wheel barrow type handles) that consumes ~ 3 - 3.2liters per hour at full load. I think your review is quite good and I'm amazed this generator has the capacity to be coupled. Buying two and coupling them is versatile but if you make them perform Work in this mode, then the fuel consumption will be quite high for what they are. By comparison a 7kva Diesel generator with a load of ~ say 3kw will consume about 0.8liters per hour as compared to ~ 4 - 5liters per hour with a similar load on our coupled Generacs. So the point is, buying two of these may be a good idea for short term use during a blackout when you can couple them and still watch TV or continue gaming, or they might be a good idea if you want redundancy of having two and the versatility of having two generators instead of one. For home use a Diesel generator in the price range of 2x Generacs is a better proposition in my view (if you or your neighbors can stand the noise and you don't mind some frequency variation). One extra point: Laptops don't require ultra clean power. 'Dirty' power (+/- 5% frequency and voltage regulation) is fine since they go through a multi voltage power adaptor. The old Toshiba laptop I'm writing this on is powered by my single cylinder Diesel generator and when the 2000w heater cycles the generator rpm and therefore the frequency swings up and down like a yoyo and it runs fine - as does my desktop computer with a 1080ti and a 6 core cpu and powered with a Corsair HX1000 psu. One thing I have noticed is I can't overclock my CPU to 4.5ghz anymore and can only run standard clock speeds which is a bit of a bummer as it really helps make better use of the graphics card at high res. An inverter could be a better proposition here but it isn't cheap or easy finding a high output inverter Diesel genset. Being small makes inverters very handy. Being able to be coupled is a great feature in this price range. Unfortunately they never output double what they can in single mode, but this is acedemic because most cheap generators can't output anything like what their spec sheet says. I always subtract 35% from their BS claims. In essence 2x 3000w generators in parallel *might* output a genuine 3500 and possibly 4000w at sea level on a day of high barometric pressure and 0 degrees lol. A genuine 3000w is still quite useful esp at high altitude for example + esp at less than $1500. Hondas on the otherhand will in all likelihood output what they say they will which is part of why the price is so high. Finally (whew lol) I must say that I disagree that it is a replacement for a Honda - however - I wouldn't pay Honda prices either for my use.

I have a Generac 6500W model. Twice my garage flooded and submerged it about 2/3 of the way up. I too drained the oil, blew out the carburetor and cleaned it up and it started up like your Honda. I don't have nearly the hours on mine but my purpose is for power outages. I have one of those subpanels set up too and with my bigger model, I can run 5 circuits in my house. Anyway, that's my experience with Generac, got nothing bad to say about anything built by Honda.

ThePaulv12... You make a few good points in your thoughtful and reasonable reply. My guess is that this unit (Generac) or another one like it that was suggested in another comment (Westinghouse) is more for someone that needs a generator for light occasional use. Someone like me for example... I live in the suburbs and we don't lose power much or for long, but when we do a unit like this would be perfect for being able to charge phones, laptops/PC's, periodically cycling the refrigerator and for being able to run the pumps for circulating hot water for the heating system (city gas, water and sewer, so don't need power to have water and use the gas stove/hot water heater). I'm sure that the Honda gens are fantastic (we've owned Honda products and have had nearly 0% issues with any of them), I just can't justify the extra cost when something less expensive, though probably not as long lasting will easily do what I need it to. Also... Being in the "burbs" noise is a strong consideration, so a more powerful gas or diesel generator is out. I find your comments about your off grid neighbor using a generator so much, pretty interesting. More power to anyone living this life, but I couldn't imagine having to listen to the drone of a gas/diesel generator for hours on end! The idea of living off grid sounds great, but if that's what you have to do (or live in the dark all the time) to make it possible, I'd opt for a different option. Great review... Interesting and useful product. Will likely be buying one of these in the near future!

We have a Honda 2000i clone from Aldi's. Great little generator, esp for the $210 it cost new. Then at auction, i got a used Honda eu2000i for $300. All it needed was a carb rebuild. That was less than $40 for the parts and some of my time. It starts easy and runs like a Honda should! Love these little gennys. During recent summer 9hr power outage, we ran the Aldi generator to power a 12k btu window ac, our tv, sound bar and Starlink. Starlink was great because we could wifi call, since the telco fiber feeding the area cell towers was broken in the accident that also broke 4 power poles and took out the power.

I may use a portable like this 3-4 times a year to maintain cold storage through power outages, and for that purpose, a less expensive genset works well. Of course, maintenance on a small air cooled engine makes all the difference, too. If I were still using generators to supply job sites or as a primary power source for a cabin, I would choose based on a different set of criteria and would be likely to invest more in a higher quality, more reliable system.

Generac is just the name that happens to appear on the side of this generator but the same unit is sold under many brand names. I own the Wen version of this generator, and it is a solid unit that has given me yeas of reliable service with no issues. Honda stuff is good, but definitely way over-priced. I'd rather have 2 of these than one Honda, any day.

@@wyattsmith9791 Lol Generac generators really are junk. Yes it is true they are used in thousands of homes for emergency back up power and they start up once a week for a test. However If you need them for more than a few hours they self destruct. Many youtube videos of people buying Generac Generators and use them for off grid power to run a tool shop once a month or so in almost every time the crankshaft breaks after only a week or two of running off of propane and oil being checked regularly. The factory told them these cannot handle being run for extended periods of time. 3600 RPM generators don't seem to last especially Generac. (Except Honda has done a fine job) Diesel's running at 1800 RPM is the only way to go. The good reviews on Generac generators are from those that have not had to rely on them actually running for any significant period of time. (less than 10 minutes or perhaps two hours here and there)

Once in a while we get issues with transfers and shit but not very often motor issues. Indont believe shit I see on KZbin because the only people that post videos about products are the ones that had issues. One thing that I learned after hurricanes Maria & Irma is that once you go into full survival mode, these smaller generators are the best option. We were lucky and spent 41 days without power and after it came back the service was constantly on and off. My average gas bill was $90.00 a month, folks with bigger gens were paying in average $1200-$1500 a month in either LP, diesel or gas. Survived with a Yamaha EU200 and a Honda EU3000, they provided enough juice to move everything minus the 220 stuff. This machine looks like an awesome option.

Traditional generators are fine for running more basic equipment that isn't sensitive to how "clean" the power is... think power tools, fans, appliances (although newer appliances are definitely more "electronic" and sensitive than older ones). Inverter generators create a cleaner electric output that more closely emulates what you get from utility power so they're safer to run electronics off of. Also, another huge benefit is traditional generators pretty much run at just one speed all the time regardless of load. Inverter generators can throttle the speed up or down based on demand which can help extend runtime.

Inverter generators using them here and there and just sometimes on the weekend you may be okay. But for off-grid people the Chinese inverter generators will not last. My non inverter generator I sold about a year ago I had for over 25 years still ran fine when I sold it. That non inverter generator was bulletproof and relatively quiet not as fuel efficient though as an inverter generator. But the big thing is it was bulletproof indestructible. I've got a 2200 watt Honda but I'm a little skeptical of using it like I did that other inverter generator. I don't want to burn it up. Luckily they replaced the sportsman China 80cc inverter generator that died.too bad they didn't have a switch to cut off the inverter on these inverter style generators. Don't get caught up in all the clean power terminology because my old non inverter generator from 1995 never burned up anything and I ran everything on it over the years.

It would be helpful if you took voltage readings from all power ports at various RPM. Some generators don't have voltage regulation done well on the 12V or USB ports. They are sketchy for safe power for your gear.

Alot of people bitching about Generac being junk, bet none of you have used one. I have a standby Generac 11kw, used it 3 months straight every day after Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico, had 0 problems. Then I bought this generator on this video, used it for 2 months 14 hours every day 0 problems, I bought another one and used it after the earthquake in Puerto Rico, 3 days straight 14+ hours straight and 0 problems. Powering TV, charging phones, Lamp, fridge, 3 fans and radio, and ran like a champ.

100% right. I own Hondas and have other brands and I am sure none have even tried one. Nothing wrong with buying a Honda but these others are excellent and not the junk generators from the 80s people remember. Great points

The Honda 7000 watt, fuel injection induction generator secured to the 5th wheel factory install in the middle of the bed on my Titan XD Turbo Cummins is perfect. Still have 200 watts of portable solar. Carrying 15 gallons of gasoline in gerry cans is worth it. My Lance 2375 will always have power. It was a personal priority regardless of price.

It would be nice to be able to run an exhaust line outside while it is secure is closed garage so nobody would run off with it in the middle of the night.

Your absolutely right. I live in Detroit, Michigan and if you left this outside for 5 minutes, it would be stolen in broad daylight. I've lived here for 15 years and have driven Taxi Cab for 7. I'm not exaggerating any of what I just said.

Power your air conditioner? Not with 1700 watts. Maybe a small window unit but not a central system.
@azycray4801
@azycray4801 5 жыл бұрын
@@skye1212 So obviously you are using a 110v window unit, like I said. The square footage of the house has no influence over what the generator will run. Split system air conditioners need 220v and more watts than this generator can provide to run the outside compressor/condenser coil.
@dwightstewart7181
@dwightstewart7181 5 жыл бұрын
You can hook two together for a total of 3400 watts, which is enough for the typical 120v air conditioning system. However, this small unit really isn't designed to power a home. A larger generator is best for that. This is a portable unit, designed for RV's, campers, or temporary power for a few household appliances (fridge, portable heater, etc).
@azycray4801
@azycray4801 5 жыл бұрын
@@dwightstewart7181 A single 1700 watt unit will run a 120v window air conditioner and pretty much nothing else. The point I was trying to refute was his statement at 0:48 that it will "actually" run your home including heat, air conditioner which to me would imply a whole house air conditioner, and other appliances. So we are in agreement as far as this unit not being suitable for anything other than running one thing at a time other than lights, such as your furnace blower motor assuming it is gas, a refrigerator but possibly not at the same time as the furnace or in the case of "your air conditioner" only that. If this unit is all you have you can make it work so you don't lose all the food in your freezer and have some lights until the power comes back on. I'm glad I'm not the only one saying this. It's better than no generator but for a home power outage, if your going to prepare for the loss of electricity, do it right and size based on more than one appliance at a time. And he did mention you could connect two together but that's not how it was presented in the opening. And at that point, why not just get a larger unit? I have a 5k (5,000 watts) generator and can pretty much run my whole house, still making sure your not running hair dryer, curling iron, microwave, instant hot, toaster oven at the same time. Ask me how I know, the wife and daughter were doing just that one morning the power went out getting ready for work. 5,000 watts would run my whole house air conditioner but not at full amperage so it was straining, and nothing else. To take the load off a bit I used a smaller 2500 watt unit to run the air handler. I'm looking now at replacing my 5k with a 10k so it will run the ac and everything else. As you said, it is designed as a portable unit for camping or a tailgate party etc.
