Good vid. A couple tips: 1) drill a few holes partway thru your board to hold needles, screws and such in order AND\OR mount a magnet to the board (chisel one off an old speaker for free), 2) drill a thru-hole to hang the board on a nail or peg, 3) fit a pill bottle in a snug hole to hold odd and non-ferrous parts, and 4) if you have any 303, spray it on the diaphragm and fuel lines so they last longer. Oh, and in a pinch, we used to use sweatshirt material for temporary (sometimes permanent!) air filters, fuzzy side out.

Good detail in your explanations. I have had the same saw for 30 years. About 5 years ago, my carb suffered the effects of ethanol blend fuel and it quit. I couldn't find 100% gas. They quit making carb kits for this saw some time ago, but somebody started marketing them online a couple of years ago. The local Stihl dealer tried to talk me into throwing mine away (wanted to sell a new one), but it sat on the shelf for a few years until I could get a kit. It's running like a new one, now. 100% gas is available around here and is all I put in it after the fuel line escapade. The kill switch will sometimes need contact cleaning, but other than that, it's a reliable, good little saw with a lot of torque for its size. I love the sound of it and like your method of adjustment.

Mine is hard to pull if it sits for a year or 2. All mechanics are excellent. Smooth if spark plug out. Runs great when gets started.

great video. I have a stihl 009 so i am replacing the fuel line as to video. I removed carburator, now that I am to put the carburator back, Im not sure which hole on the carburator the linkage installs into. can someone help and share this info.

It would be helpful to me what you did with the return line. Can't figure out the return line because my carb has only one fuel line orfice. Same 009 saw

There is one fuel line and one pulse line that runs the fuel pump on the bottom of the Carburetor The fuel line comes from the tank the pulse line Has to go to the crank case somewhere

What is the clear line in the carburetor compartment (to the left)? after not being able to start mine I opened to clean the air filter and found mine to be broken from the nipple. Seems to be a metal screw or jet in in it.

The plug in the top end of the tubing to the far left of the carb is a vent line. It has a small set screw within that vent presumably restricts the vent line and prevents fuel from spilling out of the tank. Small amounts of air are allowed to pass through the threads, clever. My 009L had a broken fuel line as well. It cracked where it went through the wall of the tank and as well it was broken in 3 pieces. After I replaced the fuel line it ran like a top!

Any idea how to replace the fuel vent line? It goes down into the right side, not sure where it goes. Mine is broken. The main fuel line from the tank is no big deal. Thanks.

@@hectorbart Not yet, the chainsaw is sitting up in my attic waiting for me. I have had too many other things going on to mess with it. Hopefully later this year.

@@chrisheffernan6600 I just took mine apart and ordered a new fuel and air filter kit from ebay, came with new fuel line and check valve to replace the vent line. I found that the vent line only goes to a void that has a small brass cover over the end of the line near the clutch. I cut the line on one of the check valves to an inch long, slipped it onto the fitting at the tank and let check valve dangle in the space below the air filter. Hope this helps.

It's not a fuel vent, it's the pulser line, that's essentially the fuel pump
