My vegan bacon…very thinly slice a block of firm tofu, fry until slightly golden. When all the tofu is fried, put it all back into the pan and add soya sauce, smoke and maple syrup. It caramelizes very quickly so you have to work fast flipping the pieces. Voila, bacon. I also crumble it and keep in the fridge to sprinkle on sandwiches and salads. Fantastic. Note: shut off fire alarm or have windows wide open…it can create a lot of smoke. Lesson learned. Lol. To me, this is so bacony that I don't need to complicate such a simple technique. It is so delicious that I have to hide it from myself to keep it long enough in the fridge to use on recipes I originally intended it for.

Something that will up the cured porkyness of all vegan bacon is the addition of just a bit of ground marjoram in the marinade. Works great in vegan deli slices , too. On Gordon's fakon...lose the hot stuff...up the smoke...and turn the marinated tofu into a paste then spread it Thinly in random places....it makes a World of difference.

Yeah, I tried the Gordon Ramsey bacon too. It’s was good, but not sure it’s worth all the effort either. But I think if you have an oven proof cooling rack, or something like that where there would be air flow around the whole piece, I think it would turn out better. But yeah, impossible to flip without destroying, if made as the recipe directs. (How many people do you think even tried the aoli recipe on the same page? Everyone probably just there for the bacon) Honestly, my favorite is carrot bacon. I mix up the marinade in a jar, slice up the carrots with a veggie peeler, and let them sit till I’m ready to bake. (And any leftover marinade just gets put in the fridge in the jar, to use another day. Horsy for less dirty dishes!) Also, the recipe I‘ve used has tahini in the marinade. And I like the flavor it adds. (And keeping the syrup ratio down, so it’s not too sweet) The carrots are easy to scrunch up in the pan while baking, without completely ruining. Which helps them from burning so fast, and you still get a little bit of a bite to. And carrots are so much easier to find, and cheaper, than a lot of the other options I’ve seen. Making it very accessible, even for meat eating family and friends.

When it comes to texture and taste, even pork bacon isn’t consistent. Lots of expensive bacon tends to be thick cut and have smoked flavors while less expensive bacon is more thin and crunchy and has less flavorings (at least in my experience growing up in the Southern USA lol). So honestly, just make your vegan bacon however you like because it probably resembles some type of bacon.

Kahlúa and Kahlúa Flavors and Espresso Martini cans are not acceptable for a vegan diet. For clarity we do not add animal derivatives into our products, however, upon a thorough investigation two years ago, we discovered that one of our sugar suppliers uses a process that is not considered vegan-friendly. While this is a common practice in the industry, it unfortunately also means we are currently unable to call our Kahlúa suitable for a vegan diet. We have now initiated a project to bring in a supplier that can guarantee their refined sugar is 100% vegan/vegetarian friendly. Please check back with us in 6 to 12 months and hopefully things will have changed. Let me know if there's anything else I can help with.

I've watched several Gordan Ramsay vegan bacon YT videos (thanks, algorithm!) and other creators did press their tofu, used a lot less than you did, and it stayed lumpy. I wonder if not pressing it let it spread out more, because yours looks very smooth and stayed together. I kinda wonder if a more paste-y tofu, like soondubu, maybe with a little extra nooch to absorb the moisture, might be even better? Idk, I am way too lazy to try and vegan bacon isn't terribly expensive if you're the only vegan in the house and don't eat it very often. Also, real pig bacon is also a pain to cook. I still have to cook for omnivores and have bacon maybe 2-3 times a year.

Of course if vegans ate only potatoes and rice, it stands to reason that's why so many people say they failed. If you don't include fat, protein or anything besides starch in your diet, can you really call yourself surprised that your diet didn't work out? Any extreme diet that doesn't include multiple food groups must be more than an afterthought.
