Cheaters are the Scum of the Earth

For today's episode of Fixed Friday I am getting very close to the end of this series. A number of folks were upset that I didn't get my regular release in on Friday because I was promoting the Risk Legends tournament so here is an additional Fixed Friday episode to make up for it.
I encounter a cheating scumbag in this game and I report General Alpha 12831 and scall54 for collusion. Just a reminder that even if you don't believe in Karma, if you are ever going to cheat at anything in life, the only person you cheat is yourself.
I'm excited to reach GM on this project and I'm glad to still see the progression.

This really really doesn't look like cheating to me. It just looks like both players recognized they needed to weaken you to stand any chance of winning and managed to ally/ work with magenta to do so. There are previous games that genuinely looked like coordination, but this isn't one of them.

I agree, Pete was off his game, you could see that coming a mile away when Magenta basically threw the towel in by taking as much as he could sucking Pete into following him leaving Red an open back door to walk all over him, White ends up looking pretty to take out the game

@@cardboardu6019 that would be the only thing that looked like Collab to me. At one point he could've easily have taken them both out but magenta was weaker and closer but he chose to go for Pete. Other than that though I was watching thinking if I was red I would've taken Pete out as well.

I had people Collab against me once. It was a fog of war fixed capital game and there was three of us left that were pretty equal in strength as far as I could tell. Then one player suicides into me twice giving the other player a significant advantage. At this point I knew I was for sure going to lose and that the suicide was very weak so I decided fuck it I'll get second. I go to finish off the other player when I come on a capital of the stronger player that has one position behind it. I then remember the suicider said thanks during the stronger players turn and knew for a fact he had a position behind that capital and they were trying to get him second place and me third. I pulled off the greatest move though and fortified my biggest stack right in front of that capital knowing the other player couldn't finish me off that turn. The suicider was busy doing a whole bunch of laughing emojis and saying oops until the next turn when he saw me break through the capital and finish him off. I wish I would've known about reporting though

I've done that in many games when I run out of time to play because of real life shit...not a big issue if someone gets tired of everyone turtling and building up armies and not attacking...many many times I have just said the hell with it this game is boring being played that way. IMO there needs to be a max army limit for each territory and then you will see real strategy...not just the build up a massive army and wait to attack when someone gets bored.

General noob question. What's the difference between collab (cheating) and an alliance within the game? Are you alerted when other players form an alliance, making it a question of the partnership being secret or not?

The two players could be friends in real life or were controlled by the same person. This means that they have more trust in each other than a general alliance. They will work together in ways that most players can't, giving them an unfair advantage

Not here to have a conversation about it but here to say that Red would have had an excellent chance at winning at the end if he didn't hit your stack. But since he did, it was most likely that white won at the end. This doesn't seem a like a move that someone trying to win solo would do, but who knows.

I know only a little about Risk so I apologize if this question is ignorant. What is the difference between requesting to be in an alliance in the game and collaboration? Don’t both have the players working together?

Difference is that the alliance inside the game is a soft agreement, you can break it, it is more like a notion of lets cooperate. For now. It has the biggest impact in fog games because the vision is shared. It has no guaranties. It is only valid for one game at the best. If two players who are communicating outside the game join the same game and their goal is to go trade wins between each other to rank up that is probably a an offense that should be banned because they give each other a huge amount of unfair advantage. This kind of alliance goes trough multiple games for the benefit of them both. That is why it is way stronger. How does this apply inside a single game? Advantage of collaboration is based on the fact that if a 3rd player decides to stab a 1st player they can count on the 2nd player to keep them safe and gift them the 2nd place because their deal spans multiple games so they have to keep their word or the whole things falls trough. If not collaborating a 3rd player would not find it in their interest to go for a 1st player because then the 2nd player just eats them up once they are week and solidify the 2nd place for them at minimum.. or even get even more ahead if they had plenty of cards.

I don’t know if they were collaborating, probably just alliance. Also it wasn’t the correct decision for red to kill pink I don’t think. Because pink was attacking you, and it wouldn’t set him in, and there’s no chance for pink to win. And it was clear you were the better player because you were in the lead and you showed your speed at one point. But at the end of the day it’s just bad players making bad decisions.

Yer that's what I was thinking. I'm no pro but I recently made it to GM playing fixed and I definitely leave fish alive if they're committed to f#@king over another player or if i can still make the kill in a turn or two and get more cards or they might pose no threat to me and I can focus on the strongest player instead. But it's more than likely I have the meta completely backwards.

It's true, maybe they were not cheating. But the team, who checks the report has access to all games, so they can take a look into those players, how they play in other games. If there is a pattern, then they are cheating. If there is no pattern and this was more like an exception, no action will be taken. The report however was definitively the correct thing to do.

Is cheating a thing in Risk? I have had a few games where another player has been getting a suspicious number of reinforcements without the territories to generate them. I had a game last night where the player was up to 30 reinforcements after only 3 moves. Fog of war was on but there were only 2 territory sets that I couldn't see which would have only generated a maximum of 10 reinforcements (5 each)

I don't think red and magenta were Collab anymore than you or red were in the early game. I notice a lot of new and low ranked players see the opportunity to eliminate the strongest player so they take it over the good sportsmanship of 1st and 2nd alliances. I'm not a particularly strong player, but I play according to how players play in your tournament vids. I find myself saying I'll go first and second all day long. Usually results in the kill me strategy for everyone else. Lol.

Red had more troops than blue even if he gets the magenta kill and he gives himself cards giving him a better advantage over the last two players. But killing blue gave him a disadvantage over white. Making them 2nd and third. You could say he made a bad decision but he was logically sound before that kill. Sounds pretty fishy when you look at it like that. I

It's almost like they don't care that there are cheaters. The leaderboard is set up for cheaters. People will host a game and only allow 2 human players to play and have all other AI's. When the AI wins the host still gets the win

I have this happen to me... very new to this game, my rank is currently intermediate but I beat masters and GMs periodically... many times I will see this happen to me when I ally with one.. then the other is non stop sacraficing himself to break me. very annoying I have had to change strategies to never ally with people now.

Love the original map too - taking Australasia is an obviously good move if you can secure it early on but to sit on that alone will NOT win you the game (normally). Use the early advantage to progress to other advantageous positions and make deals with opponents that are non-threating until the end game.

I think one of the ways we deal with cheating in this way is we loudly and repeatedly ask them to please block two accounts from playing eachother ranked within the same week or two. Force the cheaters to make new accounts each time.

Honestly, white and green both cheated in this game, too. Green got a card without having to move their stack by burning timer after "confirming" a kill, and not moving accepting the forced decision to move troops. White, meanwhile, fake-botted out to alleviate pressure off of green early on, then fake-botted again at the very end of the game and likely won the entire thing in the end because of it. Fake botting is honestly the most toxic form of cheating IMO, and is far easier to confirm than collaboration.

What is fake botting?

@@49marquito Seeming to disconnect for a few turns, then reconnecting later when other players have likely realized you botted. People, especially highly rated ones, are less likely to put stock in against a bot and just let them do their thing because bots are stupid. Thus, it buys them time... and then they suddenly reconnect and start making actual human decisions again. One instance of this that happened to me, I was building up to skirt around the bot's stack the very next turn. The human came back and suicided into me, losing the game for BOTH of us instead of me having the ability to go around it and abandon my territory. It happens in this game too - the white player bots, then all of a sudden later on the white player is back to being human again. What we see of the game implied that white almost WON the entire thing by the bot being ignored, then coming back once they had advantage again. It's not exactly "fake" botting as much as "temporary" botting, but either way it's incredibly unfair because people play differently if they think they're playing against a computer instead of a human.

It would have been good to keeping watching the game after you were killed. That's when you can really catch cheaters. Possibly Red and white were the same person. And red would give the game to the white player in the end, because that was the better account (grandmaster rank). Remember Jessie the Body said "Win if you can, lose if you must, but always cheat" 😄 don't get mad Pete. Enjoy the game whatever happens. Then you will be more than a grandmaster, you will be a Risk Jedi!

There’s so many factors that play into the strategies in this game that it’s virtually impossible to tell if people are really cheating. This game is designed to be like this, so it feels like you’re being cheated when you lose. Sometimes it’s better to kill the weaker opponents first, sometimes the strongest. Every game is different, it often looks and feels others are cheating when they’re not. Especially when you’re on the receiving end of cunning strategies. Preempting and second guessing opponents, is part and parcel of the game and is the beauty of it. It’s true that cheaters don’t prosper. If you’re a strong player, you can cope against cheaters in this game. The whole reason they might need to cheat is bc they’re losing. Playing against 5 AIs will show you what it feels like to play against cheaters, as the AIs always work together against the human. “All’s fair in love and war.” I rest my case.

What I see as cheating is when Pete will signal to another player his intention to move armies out by targeting but not attacking an area so the other player will move out for him....that is more cheating than having an alliance game where 2 or 3 players gain up on another person...especially when that other person is the strongest army and territory wise (starting at 1:03 was pretty obvious thankyou)@@andrewbuck171

1:12:00 I don't get it, why doesn't that play from red make sense? Magenta is practically dead, white is a bot, and there is a blue player that has been doing quite well, who's slightly weaker than they are. So red slams blue into the ground, and remains stronger than the blue and magenta players combined. The only player that can beat them is the white bot who has their 95 stack locked. With this play red can kill both magenta and blue in the next couple of turns, and then slowly take out the bot, which should be doable since bots are even slower than the red player is. If the red player was a GM and made that move, I wouldn't bat an eye. The only reason why this is suspicious to me is that they're an intermediate (spoilers). But even then, it's a possible play you can make. For the magenta player: "Don't attribute to malice that which can be explained by stupidity." They're a beginner (spoilers again, but it was kind of obvious from the start), so they could just be bored of a 1H game and tried to suicide into someone to be done with the game.

I had a situation where a player decided to come from Siam and destroy half my stack in Greenland so another player could take me out. They were out 2 turns later and had no reason to do it other than they just wanted to either screw me over or help the other player.

Should have consolidated your stack when he moved part of his stack to challenge you. A divided stack is a juicy target. Your goal is to preserve material always. Even after the attack he exposed himself as a loose cannon. Better to pull back and allow him to block himself further and from there punish any further threatening stacks with a far larger stack. Also better he be given the opportunity to grow and threaten red rather than antagonize him and then later antagonize red as I pointed out, ie. gg

My last game was very strange aswell. One player went from the other side of the map straight to me, killed me, got two cards from me and he had no troops left to defend himself. He now had 4 cards and two players had the chance to defeat him but chilled instead (i watched the game after i got defeated) then they went 3v1 on another player. I reported them but i didn't get a response.

You can't even call that a bad player making a bad play as red is going out of his way to not only kill blue first but to also let pink live and rebuild.

This was definitely cheating. I have a feeling all 3 of them were in cahoots, but most definitely Magenta and Red. Magenta suiciding into you to let red win is such an obvious tell. When Magenta broke Red and Red had the opportunity to break Magentas NA, he didn’t, instead he went around the whole map to kill Pete. They also attacked at the exact same speed. I got collabed during a game of progessive once. It was a 3 player collab. I was fortunate enough to kill one of the players but couldn't get the final 2... I was so mad. I reported all parties for collab. I further knew it was a collab when I damaged one of the remaining 2 collaborators (who had more cards than me) enough to where the other player would be better off killing them, setting in, then killing me, but they destroyed me first. Such BS when it takes more than 1 player to beat you...

Love playing Risk when I’m on the elliptical. Basically I enter a 6 player world domination game. I know full well I’m most likely the only player playing the game without a burner account. So I I just load up on one country inside the continent of Asia because there’s no way anyone is going to conquer Asia. Then I watch the burner accounts take each other out after 40 minutes. I usually have about 50 armies with only two legit players left in the game. I usually lose, but an hour on the elliptical goes by pretty fast when you’re trying to embarrass cheaters. It’s actually very satisfying when I lose and see a Master is actually playing the game. I always send them a friend request.

i find it odd that early in the match the alliance with red and white that helped you build a troop lead is now cheating later in the match when red and magenta team up to remove the player with the most troops. i agree with the red players choice to attack you and leave magenta as he was no threat at that point. you had the troop lead and better map control. the only way for them to overcome that was to team up. seems like poor sportsmanship to call someone a cheater just because they beat you at a game.

I player suicdes one of my two stacks, then immedieatly after a different player takes out my other one and kills me, even tho they had no way of knowing my other stack had been hit and we had coexhisted near eachother for like half the game

I feel like red goes out of the way to accommodate white in Europe in the early game and, given what eventually plays out, seems highly suspect. It’s par for the course with Risk but no less frustrating when it happens - longer term it has the potential to push away newer players (and I say this as a new player - finding your channel inspired me to start playing).

That's is the problem with this game. teaming and suicides happen all the time. Every player in every game can control who wins and loses by doing one or the other. Lower level players seem to to do it more. I say this but I still play the shit out of it. lol

teaming and suicides are part of the game and always have been, even 50 years ago. When i was at college there were a few tourneys involving 30 plus players. I won the first two but after that every time i played all five others teamed up to kill me then sorted it out amongst themselves. annoyed the hell out of me so i used the suicide strategy. that was the first to hurt me gets it. I got a couple of games again by making them in fight until they worked around it.
