Briddy Hll The upper hose of the radiator leads in to thermostat on most 99% cars. Lower hose is return So the big thick (30-40mm) hose , where it ends in your engine is the housing of the thermostat

you have a radiator fan switch that has a high "Coming-on" temperature. you can buy a switch with a lower temperature to make it work sooner rather than later when the coolant is near to boiling.
