This video is an edit of their longer R rated version. The original video was made for the nightclubs in New York city think studio 54. It was specifically made to tantalize the mind and and get the attention of Americans and radio play. Love me some Duran Duran. ❤

Hi Suzanne, thanks so much for the info. This makes total sense 🤩

Yes, this is a great song Sue, and like you, it's one of my faves from Duran Duran .. They had a number of good ones, but it's their first single "Planet Earth" that is still my No.1 pick from them .. I love the futuristic feel of both the song and video. And regarding Godley & Creme, they left 10CC after a disagreement among the band regarding musical direction .. G&C thought "Things We Do For Love" was too mainstream and not musically interesting enough to be the next single, so they went their own way rather than be a part of it .. They had a very unusual but successful hit here in Australia with "An Englishman In New York", which is worth checking out.

Hi Wayne, that is some great info! I love Planet Earth too! I find that one and Girls on Film are different than some of their later stuff and has a bit more edge. Interesting about G&C. Is An Englishman in NY the same song that Sting did? I have never heard that song by G&C. Yes I will definitely check it out. Thanks for that, Wayne 😀💙

@Play It Again, Sue! The Sting and G&C songs have the same title but couldn't be more different musically .. They're both good in their own ways, but you need to see the official video of G&C's to get the full effect .. It's pretty "out there" !

I think you got it.👍 I also interpreted the lyrics as describing the overt exploitation in the modeling biz, primarily against women. For the Vid, 1st thing that can throw ppl off is there's mult models, not just 1. It's setup w/ a fashion show catwalk, w/ 1 mjr diff: it ends in a boxing ring, where they each encounter a "challenge" - having to face-off a wrestler 3X her size; having to portray an "unconscious" damsel (like "Snow-white" & "Sleeping Beauty") who needs some dude to save her fr/ nearly drowning in a baby-pool🤦♀️, playing the role of "sexy masseuse" who may have defined "a happy ending" differently than her client….🤣 Then they used 1 of their classic vid techniques I call: WTF DD?, when it comes to Pistol-whipping Pearl the Cowgirl🤷♀️, followed by stereotypical-looking socialites who may be the Designer(s) or typical fashion show audience (basically, rich & high), but figuring it out hasn't been a high priority since my film analysis class in 90s (+ ads, etc, as "media" wasn't yet frequently used)…

@@playitagainsue Thx😸 I also liked how they showed the models walk off, leaving their opponents knocked-out behind. Probably bc as a competitive soccer player who'd sometimes play w/ guys, tween boys acutally, who just loved teasing about playing "like a girl", which left me no choice but to take them out w/a slide tackle, so I cld ask what it was like to be knocked down by a girl… 🤪

Duran Duran has been around for 40 plus years & have performed Girls On Film live through their various tours & live performances. Which live version(s) are you referencing?: Their 1981 performance at Paradiso Club in 1981? Their Careless Memories Tour version also in 1981? Their Hammersmith Odeon version in 1982 during their Rio Tour.? Their 1989 Big Thing Live version with different lyrics? Their MTV Unplugged Acoustic Set version in 1994? Their 2003 version at The Budokan? Their 2005 version during the Astronaut Tour? Their All You Need Is Now Tour version in 2012? Their Paper Gods Tour live version in 2015? Their Future Past Tour version now? BBC Radio 2 in Concert performance in 2022? There so many, many more versions from other peformances & from other tours... To just state that the song is better live makes no sense.

@@playitagainsue I wouldn't say that Girls On Film is "better" live. It's all up to the individual. At the same time, the band has been around for 40 plus years and to just generalize that the song is better live is unreasonable. Duran Duran have so many versions of the song live since they started until now. They've changed the tempo of the song for different concerts and even the structure of it as well. They've added different lyrics to some of their live versions. They've done medley's incorporating other songs in to Girls On Film by other bands. They've performed live acoustic versions and have had different personnel and added additional musicians to alter the songs delivery as well.

@@martinwarford1389 Agree. This was part of Duran Duran's The Sing Blue Silver Tour supporting their Seven And The Ragged Tiger album. I heard that show like many. It was broadcast/simulcast nationally in the United States by Westwood One Radio on March 21, 1984, & it was their second show at Madison Square Garden with the first being on March 19, 1984. I saw the band live on February 2, 1984 at the Seattle Center Coliseum (formerly known as Key Arena & then rebuilt as the current Climate Pledge Arena). The Girls On Film version played in general during this tour is one of my favorites. Other notable versions that come to mind are: Paradiso Club (Amsterdam) 1981 - First European Tour; Hammersmith Odeon -Rio Tour 1982: Big Live Thing Tour 1989; MTV Unplugged version 1993 & their Paper Gods Tour version in 2015.
