So true, in the 80’s their music got drowned by the hype. I remember being in a club in Ibiza in the 90’s when the DJ dropped “is there something I should know” by Duran Duran, I’ve appreciated their music so much more from that night, amazing.

One of Duran Duran's most haunting songs. It's almost like having a religious experience. And since you asked, Jay, the lyrics are about a casual meeting between two people that eventually turns into a one-night stand.

Simon had such a nice and unique singing-voice during back in the day. His vocals are far more exceptional today. His vocal range is a lot more in tune and smoother now when he sings live; it's easier for him to hit some of the high notes he once struggled with. I do miss his harmonies that he mostly did on the first two DD albums.

Literally saw Sting live 5 days ago... His voice has held up immaculately! Sounded as close as possible to the studio recordings. There wasn't a single point at which he sounded out of tune, played the bass like a champ too... Didn't miss a single beat. He kept at it for an hour and a half without a pause. At 71 years old, it's absolutely incredible.

@@rediscoveryrecords1348 he hit the bad note right before throat surgery and vocal cord paralysis. Yes, being live aid, bad timing. The band also broke up that day... not a good day for them. Considering he has since performed beautifully for decades and even people like Pavorotti requested a duet and Lou Reed saying Simon sung his song way better than him....stop being a tool and appreciate a guy for sticking with it.

Save a Prayer is such a beautiful song. It might surprise you that it's about a one night stand, or you may have caught that in the lyrics. Couple of things about this band; the lyrics from their early work is very poetic. As the years have passed, I think the lyrics have become more relatable, but they are still always beautiful or cutting or ...something. They will make you feel stuff if you understand them. You are correct that this song is from the 80s. It's off of the classic album Rio, which was only their second studio album. It is widely regarded as a masterpiece which says a lot about Duran Duran. They were in their early 20s making this music and it still has the same impact 40 years later. DD have gone through many iterations over the years so you will always experience something different with them. They just dropped their latest single last Wednesday off of their 15TH studio album! As usual, it will not sound like something they have done before and the video is cutting edge. Please react to Invisible below!(Also, they will be performing this on the Billboard Music awards tomorrow night)! kzbin.info/www/bejne/iX6mlWiwp9h5pqc

Some of their biggest hits and best songs include: Rio -- huge in the '80s Hungry Like a Wolf -- huge in the '80s Notorious (this got a second life on the Donnie Darko soundtrack in 2001) A View to a Kill - (most successful James Bond theme song ever, I think) The Reflex -- huge in the '80s All She Wants Is -- (really different aggressive sound for them) I Don't Want Your Love Wild Boys (early) Girls on Film (early)

Jovaughn I screamed when I saw you were reacting to my absolute favorite band!! This song “Save A Prayer” is about a one night stand. It’s hauntingly beautiful and the entire “Rio” album in my opinion is a masterpiece. I’ve been a fan since “Planet Earth” which came from their first album “Duran Duran”. The band shot this and a few more videos on location in Sri Lanka. The place they were walking to at the end of the video is a sacred place of worship. And if you notice, they weren’t wearing shoes and it was incredibly hot. Hot enough to send them scrambling after the shot! Duran Duran are considered a band from the New Romantic/New Wave music era that was coming out of England in the late 70’s, early 80’s. I honestly don’t believe they have any bad songs but that is just me. I saw them in concert only twice (praying to see them a lot more this year). 2020 was supposed to be their 40th anniversary tour but we all know what happened. Their videos were basically like short films. And they really set the bar high on quality videos. They just released a new song “Invisible” and the video is completely made from Artificial Intelligence! If you have a chance they are supposed to premiere this song at the Billboards Awards Show tomorrow, Sunday May 23th. And a little history on the band, they were heavily influenced by Roxy Music and David Bowie amongst others. Donna Summers song “I Feel Love” inspired Nick Rhodes to learn the piano/synthesizers/keyboards and the like! They sound just like this live! Thank you so much! I instantly was taken back to my 10 year old self. I would recommend “Planet Earth”, “Serious”, “My Antarctica”, “Notorious” and I’m sure you’ll find your way. Thanks again! ❤️

This was an excellent choice for your next Duran Duran reaction. They had so many hits, and many of them sounded distinct. You aren't going to run out of material for awhile!

Duran Duran made up 85% of my high school thoughts. I wallpaper my bedroom in torn magazine Madman. They were one of the most popular bands in the world in the 80s. The chauffeur is on of my all time faves. Planet Earth is a great old school new wave song. Union of the Snake is fun, too! And you can't miss the Wild Boys video. Very MadMax.

To answer the question about the instrument that one of the members of the band is playing, it's called Sampoña, (samponya) its an instrument that it's originated in Peru, it comes form Incas ancestors, although they use a little distortion, sure they were very experimental back in the day, even today, every song of them tries new instrumental stuff they dont get stuck on one formula, and that over the years made them earn the respect that they have today.

The 'sound' you were wondering about is a stylised wind-instrument synth sound that is being modulated using the manual pitch-bend wheel on the synthesizer.

Duran Duran was a huge band in the early '80s'. In fact they came in the wave of the 2nd British Invasion, the first of course with The Beatles, Rolling Stones and many others. Duran Duran could be considered similar to the Beatles from the British Invasion but for the 80's. So this is why you are growing to like them more and more because in deed they were really really great.

Ocarina = instrument. OMG this is my all-time favorite song. I've always wanted this video to be the last thing I see before I die. 😎 I'm dramatic. I've seen them about 20 times live. I think they played this every time. Anyways, they just released a brand new song "Invisible". Everyone go check it out. The video is made by A.I. They'll be performing on the Billboard Awards tomorrow too.

I’d be surprised if it wasn’t the Yamaha DX7 Synthesiser ( which was pretty much the most overused synth of this period) ..on its Ocinara setting.. because there’s pitch bend in that mix there are lots of other arpeggio runs that sound distinctly voiced like an Oberhiem.
