I so like the suspens you put us in when you say"and what would you play as the killing move" These killer moves explained by you are also reviewed by Marin Weteschnik in his excellent "Tactics from scratch" thank yo for your excellent and humorous work. chess is a pleasure with Mato!

Saw the killer move but I thought recapturing the pawn with the pawn was the best move in the position so I would have fell for that great trick, recapturing with the pawn was an eye pleaser!! As always Thanks Mato.

You are the best if you are not a robot...you are an exceptionally talented chess storyteller, I like your annotation and timing of voice, reminds me of doing coinmagikkk at the Liquour store for Jesus...lol You are great. Best Chess Annotator on the web, hands down, you sound like Bela Lugosi...

Mato, you did something that was different from most of your other videos that I found very interesting. You asked to find a good move, not a killer one. Finding good moves is often harder than finding a killer move (esp once you tell us there is a killer move to find). A killer response is the difference between a good-looking move and a blunder. Finding a 'good move' that would prevent a killer response is a good challenge.

Guidelines are good, but if you know better then you can ignore them. Another guideline is, if you can't find a good tactic, move your worst-placed piece to a better square. It might be a piece you just moved, especially if your opponent's previous move affects is placement.

if k-c4, then qxb2 threatening rook. rook moves or queen protects, then move rook, maybe to e3, with possibility of q-c6 mixed in there

These GMs are rated 2741 and 2750 and he made a blunder like that? This must have been a crazy blitz game or something. In 1971-1972, when Bobby Fischer had the most remarkable year in chess history, scoring against World Champion strength opponents at the Interzonal 15.5-4.5, and Candidate matches Mark Taimanov 6-0, Bent Larsen 6-0, and Petrosian 6.5 - 2.5, his rating was 2785, 125 points above world champion Spassky's rating of 2660. Winning the world championship lost Fischer some ratings points. I guess ratings inflation is a real thing...

I put on 99 points in a single tournament once (but lost points in another tournament running concurrently!). It depends on a few things: how much time you spend on it, how you spend your time. Playing is, of course, how you test your progress. At 1600 you're probably not good a tactics, so get some books of tactics and learn them. Play good players. Face to face is best. Do Mato's tactics exercises repeatedly until you can do them all without pausing.

For the record, I'd have played QxQ, then after the Rook recaptured the Queen, exd4. Yes, it drops a pawn, but it's an awkward position for white anyway, and it at least avoids the Queen drop.
@ronikarlsson154612 жыл бұрын
I was actually thinking about rook a1 -> c1 putting more pressure on the queen's file, while being protected by the bishop on g5. What do you think about that move, Mato? BTW, I really enjoy your videos, and I think they have helped me improve my game very much. Thanks a lot and keep up the good work!

Re1 is Not checkmate it's just a move to win a Queen after Rxe1 - White Queen on d3 is without protection and Black wins! I am not GM but I like watching some Chess Games, it's so interesting! :)

That happened in a similar game (but in that case, the winning side didn't see that) - Black could just exchange queens and take Ra1.

when the rook was pressuring that file and queen moved out of way, couldn't the black knight fork queen and took?

so what move should be played instead at that position? 4:20 pawn to f4, pawn to e4? I'm really bad at this...
@jxcess389112 жыл бұрын
this can be considered as a blunder. It's not an exceptional move by black especially since it was played by a grandmaster. Such tactical situations arise all the time during grandmaster games. It's hard to believe that Aronian missed this since it was not a blitz game.
@trololo185810 жыл бұрын

If you're a teenager, 100 points a year from 1600 is pretty modest. If your rating is below 1000, reading and understanding a good beginner's book will probably do the trick.
