@ktakashismith5 ай бұрын
That's the natural consequence of making a single-generation sports car. The R&D and tooling cost is immense, so while companies like GM and Porsche* can streamline the production process of sports cars by refining production over multiple decades, Honda inflates their perceived value of the NSX because it cost them so damn much to build. Unfortunately it's similar to the curse of the LFA, where people looked at it and thought "well damn that's just not fast enough for the amount it costs", but down the line everyone realized it was a really special car. *actually Porsche is a poor example, hot damn the new 911's cost so much
@iSOBigD5 ай бұрын
The difference is the NSX has performance and an engine similar to regular performance cars and other supercars. The LFA has a naturally aspirated engine and an amazing sound which isn't the norm anymore and hasn't been for over 10 years, at almost any price point. Outside of a couple of nearly one-off multi-million dollar supercars that no one will ever really drive, there haven't been any cars similar to the LFA. On the other hand, most sport cars and supercars have a turbo V6 and / or electric motors and AWD. There just isn't much special about the NSX today so no reason why it would appreciate in price.
@Tigerex9665 ай бұрын
Yea and some like the type s arte9 going up in value because so few were made some people will never see one on the road. .with electric advancements I see more power front motors with solid state batteries just as cool and reliable taking this down to the one second range and tunes for the turbo intercooler with 1000 total up 700 torque. Hopefully Acura will one day release mods for performance and looks. Manual update infotainment dash pled instruments headyailingts body kits chips etc.

The NSX is the car community in a nutshell. They give you a good car so when it's on the market you're going to criticize it say it's terrible say it's not good just because other people say it and not have a valid argument as a why you don't like it and why it's not good. But as soon as prices start to go up you're going to join the bandwagon on that and then talk nothing but praise about the car and also say that nobody ever said anything negative about the car whatsoever in the past. It's almost as if in the car Community is very shamed upon to have a actual opinion about a car or vehicle and all what you going to do is repeat what everybody else says about it other than actually say how you actually feel about a vehicle but then also say that you bought it for yourself you don't care what other people think. They didn’t make this video to highlight them both, the E-Ray in particular, nor the Corvette in general. The title will attract the Honda fanboys and that’s exactly what they prefer to be in the comments of this video. It’s no longer rocket science what Savagegeese’ deal is.

@@G-Rated I don't get that at all. I like Hondas. I like Pontiacs (r.i.p.). I like Mazda rotaries. I've owned more 70s muscle cars than most people, as well as Japanese sports cars. not much into the german autos though. They've done lots of videos across many makers; seems to me you hate Japanese cars and hate that they approach them so positive. I hate SUVs but don't think this channel is SUV biased because I see so many damn videos on them. Would you say Top Gear had a Merc bias because fat boy loved burning tires off of the top models? He also talked great about the RX-8, then gave it a slight at the end ... so if you don't hear him saying it felt squirrely for him off the track, you just hear how great it is; that wouldn't be bias for the Japanese car, that would be you not hearing the whole story, because your rage biased you from the entire truth. What is funny is I initially though you had a witty response, it isn't in the title to get more clicks because more people will click for a normal Corvette than the E-Ray. I thought why tf would you compare a hybrid with a V8 other than the layout changed to match them; but it being an E-Ray makes more sense for the comparison now. Why do you not like Japanese cars? For me, German cars tend to not be styled the way I like them and decades of hearing how they aren't reliable enough and they don't treat you well enough for how much it costs 'used to be good' was the general sentiment; older ones were million mile cars, somewhere in the 80s/90s they were 'crap'. Hearing that enough with styling that doesn't mesh well with me sums it up. What got under your skin about them? I had a 76 Nova fastback with a fresh build 350 along side an 88 RX-7 and a 75 GrandVille. I got a 97 Eclipse GS-T after someone ran a stop sign and bent the frame of the RX-7. Its interesting comparing all three of the latest produced Japanese Super cars; LFA vs NSX vs GT-R. LFA was an emotional, focused exotic from a company not known for risk. The NSX a high tech, tech forward do-it-all car from a company known for handling fun and exciting engines The GT-R was budget super high performance from a company, well, known for that! LFA and NSX were very much one off cars, where the GTR has been sold for 15 years. The differences in approach from all 3 on similar products is an interesting conversation to have one day.
@jerrybarrax56185 ай бұрын
Your point about the difference in advances in programming between the dev time of the NSX and that of the C8 corvette is valid, But there was already a high-performance benchmark on the market when the NSX hit the market. The Nissan GTR came to market with an advanced AWD drivetrain and a twin-turbo V6 that delivered 0 -to -60 times under 3 seconds. I think one of the reason the enthusiast market was disappointed with the NSX is because it cost significantly more than the GTR, had a more complex drivetrain, but delivered less thrilling performance, at least on paper.

Now the Gen 2 does exactly the same if You compare it to cars like McLaren Arthura 200K+ or Ferrari 296 300K+. Even the new Porsche 992.2 GTS hybrid starts at 150K. And from all of those cars I would pick the NSX. A Corvette E-Ray is an absolute bargain! But let's face it it will be super popular so NSX has it covered in that regard. And it will be the most reliable out of all of them. If Honda/Accura would release the hybrid NSX now it would definitely be more popular just because there is more hype around hybrid supercars.

Around the 7 minute mark, what the Honda engineer says about it being their duty to keep moving forward… I think he is severely misguided in that forward progress can be judged by many metrics, and the one they are seeming to use is “do what everyone else is doing, pure EV is the way of the future” rather than setting the continuous improvement of driver engagement as as their goal. I think what they did with the 2nd gen NSX’s hybrid system is cool and I actually like performance hybrid, but it’s obvious that driver engagement has suffered compared to the original in a way that cars like the Miata have managed to overcome. I fear that if they go full EV on the next generation they will be following the crowds at the expense of the experience, and in that case, WHY EVEN MAKE IT ANOTHER NSX because in spirit it won’t be. Please let me know if you feel the same or if you disagree with me.

It'd be nice to see an actually driver focused EV that isn't Rimac levels of unobtanium. I think that expecting cars to keep "their soul" or whatever in the modern age is somewhat misguided. Much as I hate to admit it, cars today are as removed from cars in the 90s as cars in the 90s were from cars in the 50s. Things are going to change. Regulations exist, if you want to get around them, build a kit car. Lastly, "it's their duty to keep moving forward" and your issue with their actions are simply the issues with a company being a company. They're in the business of making money, "doing what everyone else is doing" is just how to make money making cars in the contemporary era. The pearl clutching in the car community about cars most of them will never be able to afford anyway is almost funny. Anything good is going to appreciate faster than most can save for them, anything new is either soulless by necessity or so expensive it's not for anyone normal. It's a comedy at this point, I basically just consider them video game cars at this rate.

@@WeAreCheckingthe entire idea of a car losing its soul or having a soul in the first place is one of the dumbest and most nebulous concept that has ever come from the car community. I saw the newer NSX for the first time a couple of weeks ago while driving. I think it's a stunning looking car in-person - very different than in video or pictures. I was interested in it when came out and I'm still not, but I hope companies keep making cars where they're willing to push boundaries. I think that the engineers you interviewed said it wasn't made for the track so the complaints about it on a track aren't warranted or rational in my opinion.

I am a big NSX fan, but why is the assistant NSX project manager saying at 8:00 that second-gen NSX hybrid tech was unique and ground-breaking at that time? Holy trinity of hybrid supercars was back in 2013, and by 2017 there was multiple high-performance hybrid-assist sportscars. If anything NSX was late to the game, which is part of the reason it didn't sell well, it was "been there, done that".

I talked to Jonathon about it and it was more about bringing that tech down market. LaFerrari and 918 were on another price level.

@@savagegeese yes, in that context he is correct, NSX was the most affordable hybrid supercar at the time of it's release, although still priced too high for the target demographic (as you mentioned in the video). I have a 1993 NSX that I had the engine fully built and installed a SOS 2.1 KB. It now makes double the HP. Now it has soul. My issue with original HP of both NSX is that they played it too safe. By the time it was released, the other guys already had more HP. The Ford GT 3.0 is what the NSX 2.0 should have looked like in terms of being low and wide.... and in terms of starting HP. Both cars have TT V6.

@@CarsandBikes As an owner of an ‘02 I think the car has plenty of soul in stock form. That said, your complaint, shared by myself and many others, is Honda in a nutshell. It’s why our cars can run to 400-500k miles with just the maintenance schedule. It’s why I think we may see high mileage NC1s. The TLX-S could easily have 400hp but I surmise they err on the side of dependability.
