Chevy Silverado, (sinks) Like A Rock! Tracked Jeep to the Rescue!

This truck took a series of legal 4wd trails through the woods and ended up in the Newberry Crater. Unfortunately instead of turning around when he hit the snowmobile only trails, he kept going and eventually became stuck, and had to get a ride back to town from the Sheriff’s Department. So the next morning after getting approval form both the Sheriffs Department and the Forest Service, Grumpy and I took the track @Jeep up to get him pulled out.
Instead of going back through the woods, we took him straight down the snowmobile trail to the entrance gate about 5 miles away. As with all of the situations involving law enforcement, I don’t know what the tickets or fines were, because I don’t care. To put it simply, other people’s business is none of my business, so I don’t even ask. I have a job to do and that’s all I worry about.

Yes, he was on a snowmobile trail that is closed to vehicles over 50” wide. And yes, he had to get a ride back to town that night from the Sheriff’s Department. Now when it comes to tickets, fines, or anything like that.. I have no idea, because I don’t care. As far as I’m concerned that falls under the category of, other people’s business is none of my business, so I don’t even bother to ask. I was called here to remove the vehicle and got permission to do so, so that’s all I concern myself with.

Have to confess I made a similar mistake many years ago whilst on vacation in Maine. My wife and I were visiting from the UK and I was driving a rental Toyota Highlander. Possibly a combination of unfamiliarity and lack of observation on my part we found ourselves on a snowmobile trail. I took the decision to turn round immediately and that's when I got the Toyota stuck. It was getting dark but we did have plenty of water, plenty of fuel and chocolate!! I thought we would be spending the night there but as luck would have it about 8 snowmobiles appeared and they kindly stopped to help and being big guys they pushed me back on to the trail and we made an embarrassed exit back the way we came . Possibly around 2008 near Greenville ME. If any of those guys watch the channel, thanks again, I'm the bus guy that gave you his business card !! Great channel Casey, keep up the good work.

I've lived in Maine my whole life (nearly 50 years), about 45 minutes from Greenville. I bet those guys who helped you out were surprised to encounter a pair of Brits. I've only ever encountered a Brit one time, in or around 2005 in Orono, Maine. It's rare to encounter foreigners around here, not counting Canadians.

The best part Casey, is that none of those people have ever towed a vehicle in their lives. I have been driving off road and recovering for over 50 years and have used hard shackles the whole time. Chains and straps and wire rope. Now adding dynamic ropes to the mix.

Trucks seem to be getting heavier over the years and there comes a point when the 4 wheel drive aspect doesn’t have what’s needed unless there’s a good amount of aftermarket components added, at least on things that counts like tires, lockers, etc. but to be fair, some older rigs had similar issues that required the driver to have good off road skills before he/she tried something.

I've towed things several times... including horse trailers many times. These kinetic ropes & tow shackles, etc are fairly new inventions. I learned to tow stuck vehicles w/ a chain...which takes its own set of skills...

Grumpy was a wealthy of information for the snowmobilers who stopped too watch the pull . Casey you had this one planned from beginning to the end. Planning for the fixing of the holes in the path, to clearing the truck from the path so as to provide safe snowmobiling. Great team and even greater pull by the track Jeep. Way to go Casey.

Cute title for those that remember the Chevy commercials of yore. Love your fast drone.... stick :) All the other recovery KZbinrs are rushing out to buy 360° cameras and a long stick. Shackles: The sheave kinda prevented you from getting the best position for the knot. Use the directions provided by the shackle manufacturer. Some of the are even color-coded in the shackle weave. Yes, that shackle was/is inferior and probably has a lower working load rating than Yankum. Your expertise is showing when you tell him where to turn around, not dig holes, etc. Track Jeep for the win. Love that thing!
