When off road recovery goes wrong...

A simple off road recovery call for a stuck Toyota Tacoma turned into an all day adventure when we ran into a backwoods traffic jam, and then Alex fell through the ice and into the frozen lake. In the end, everyone made it out fine with no damage to any vehicles, so it was still a good day

@DonaldJ If you tell someone where you're going and a time you should be back by, then you don't need to carry most of those things all the time, that in turn leaves more room to carry things you do need.

Unless you have enough ground clearance to keep the frame from setting down on the crust, it’s a combination of ground clearance and snow depth. It’s a classic problem that so few understand. They keep saying tire chains, but they don’t help with that problem. You need floatation.

. . . . . and a good time was had by all! That traffic jam was amazing - who would'a thought you could go 20 miles off road into the woods and end up in a traffic jam??! The scenery is, of course, beautiful - if you're going to get stuck, you might as well do it in a scenic place! The scenery is an added bonus to watching your rescues, and the dive into the lake was priceless.
