Basically Sumi Gaeshi from Judo. This is one of my favourite throws, very good in BJJ because guys tend to bend over and keep their hips away, giving you an over the top grip which makes it easier to hit. Great counter to them grabbing a single leg too (particularly in the gi).

Great explanation Chewy. It’s basically Sumi gaeshi from judo. You can also do it on the cross side leg. When people shoot a single, I weave my leg in between theirs as a counter and it’s set up perfectly. They expect me to drive their head away but I back-roll for the throw.

Nice details. I had been using the butterfly sacrifice for a while with about 60 percent success. I always had problems with what to do if it failed. I tried some butterfly half but being in the ultra heavyweight division I had little success. I like your single x option because it opens a lot up including a switch to 50/50 or full x guard that I have a lot of success in. Thanks Profess for your great videos.

Please forgive this beginner-level question, but is there a video that shows what to do when the other player falls back and just waits for you to wade in? We start on our knees and my partner frequently just immediately falls back such that when I go in, I'm already walking into whatever trap he's setting. I don't want to go in as I'd rather we start upright and try to throw/sweep one another, but if I don't go in, nothing happens. He just lays there.

do HIIT workouts work for more energy when rolling? Like sprinting for a minute and then walk 2 minutes? Would that be an efficient way of getting energy for rolling? looking for a friend :)

I'm 33 and have been doing jiu jitsu over 7 or so months. Is it too late to take bjj serious and focus on it more? I know at this age I won't be a world champion or anything crazy. Jw if it would be worth it to really focus on training. Idk how I would make a living doing it as 40 something black belt.

Can i ask BJJ practitioners a question? So i go to an MMA gym and im basically the token striker with a decade of experience showing up to get rolled by these dedicated BJJ grapplers and thats great. I like the challenge, that im learning new things etc. However ive asked them all ever so persistently to please spar stand up with me even just light or technique sparring and they seriously refuse to. Is it a bjj thing that they....i dont want to say scared. But, what could be the catalyst making them all so adamantly refuse to spar stand up with me when they are also martial artists who routinely get to just flatten me on the mat?
@mraBJJ333 жыл бұрын
I'm a strictly bjj guy, and my reasoning for refusing would be because I don't really want anything to do with striking. I do bjj for fun as a hobby and I dont really want to do any damage to my head, which even light sparring will do as the small impacts accumulate. That's not to say that on occasions I've had head impacts during rolls they're just much more rare and not an intrinsic part of the sport/martial art. Unless you meant standup sparring as in takedowns, in which case I would do that unless I were already feeling way too beat up that day.

Chewy has some older videos on the topic which I’ve used with a lot of success, but if you only have time for one video I recommend this one : kzbin.info/www/bejne/h2THfpt7bJ5mnZY - it’s consistently the most annoying version to encounter as the person on top because you can’t get chest to chest connection or isolate the arms. Also, don’t get discouraged: 10 to 20 percent success rate is good. A 50 percent success rate on escapes means the person on top isn’t very good or you are much better.

Put one arm on his neck and one arm on his hip and push to create space, then you have a few options. Also keep your leg bent to prevent them mounting.
