Awesome products. My Camry has soft paint. It easily chips. I don't clay because of this. My Camry is a 2000. It's been repaint once bad paint jobs. I'm trying to restore the Camry because it wasn't taken care of by other owners. I'm the 4th owner. The trunk lid has deep scratches I dare not mess with it. But I'm a beginner detailer so I have to learn and not be afraid. The Camry was given to me by my late cousin who past away September 1st 2022. I had lost a friend who past away in April of 2022. If you're using a clay bar, you can wear a plastic glove and that lets you feel left over contamination much more easily and clay sticks to plastic or nitrile and makes dropping the bar a lot less likely.. Also, if your clay can handle detergent, you can do a regular wash to knock off everything that's big and loose, then use detergent, something like dishwashing detergent as a lube because that will keep your clay cleaner. When you fold your claybar while using detergent, it's important to rinse the bar with clean water before folding it so you don't fold detergent into the bar - that will turn it to mush. Any pressure at all is too much. When you use the detail towel, you can wrap it around a clean hydrophilic sponge. When I do that, I lay the sponge down and cut about a half inch deep and make a diamond pattern in the sponge creating about 1/2 inch square diamonds. That makes the towel follow the surface much better and keeps the pressure pretty much even. Also, here again you can use it with car wash and feel the surface with the gloved hand to be sure you're getting it all. BTW, I've given up trying to get a decon right in one try. I just go over the car twice. I'm not sure if I'm right about this but it always seems no matter what, the contamination seems to bloom back after the first pass.

I have the clay towel and love it.... now that my vehicles have ceramic coating though I am not sure if it's safe for the coating to use the towel....I know traditional clay is a big no no, but the synthetic towels I thought I remember people saying are ok on coatings.... not sure if anything to this.

The clay is a true and tried media, and every detailer should have it on hand for that disaster. In all the time of owning a mixture of undetailed scenarious a clay towel is what you need and folding it in fours is genius. The clay sponge is pure magic and I haven't even scratched the surface of this amazing product yet.

After I discovered the clay mitt I've never used a clay bar again it's so much easier and enjoyable. With a clay bar you really sweat it out cuz it's hard work. I keep a clay bar for the small hard-to-reach places that the MIT can't get to which is like maybe 5% of the car

Personal experience tip - I stole a baking sheet and fitting grate from the kitchen, and use the nozzle spray on the microfiber side, the clay side facing down. Took months before the wife figured out she was missing the stuff😎

Thanks for sharing how this can be used AND CLEANED! although I want to ask, how do you store it as well? Reason for asking is if I store it the wrong way I worry that the synthetic clay might dry up and sides would stick to one another.

I bought used 2020 Chevy HD3500 that has paint swirls a s some scratches. The paint is a dark blue and seems soft and easy to scratch compared to my old 2011 truck. I’ve seen good results with Turtle Hybrid solutions Ceramic Spray coating and was thinking of trying it. Would using a clay bar or rag remove the swirls?

Clay doesn’t remove swirls only contaminants. If anything, it can leave micro marring. Do the proper wash, Clay and decon; then I’d suggest you polish.

It depends, on lighter colored cars marring may not show. If you use a wax it could possibly fill those in. Comes down to paint type(hard, soft etc) and color mostly

These products are made to get wet, you need to have lubrication for the clay! However, don't soak these products for extended periods of time.

All of these products shown are typically mild. Remember that some of these scratches gained from claying will actually produce a better and cleaner result during polishing. Use each product with your end-result in mind!

So with the synthetic clay (towels, mitts,etc.) how do you know when the material is ready to be discarded? Visible contamination on it? When it is sticking to decontaminated paint even with lubrication? Edited to clarify. I mean the life span of the clay towel,mitt, scrubber.

So far I have used the Clay Towel and the feeling is the same. Paint will start to feel slicker, the towel will glide more over the cleaner surface, and you can hear some grinding when it is contaminated so I can stop when I can't hear it anymore. Being blue(ish) you can see it getting dirtier sometimes.

When you cannot hear the scritch scritch scritch on the paint anymore. I use the synthetic clay towel (The P&S version), the TRC clay mitt and either TRC Ultra clay or Meguiar's mild clay, depending on the finish.

@@Dcervantes243 They say the Towel is good for a lot of uses, I would try to decon the decon towel (lol) with APC, warm water, and R2R. Mine doesn't stick when the surface is clean, it only feels "grabby" when there is contamination.

for me it has to be the clay bar, it's been my weapon of choice for years, I've tried all other products and I still go back to the bar. When you charge £2k for a detail, a £20 bar is nothing in the grand scheme of things, so the cost of using a whole bar on one car does not bother me.

Aren't there different levels of aggressiveness for clay? I heard some "more aggressive" claybars will leave more scratches in the paint/clear coat, is that correct?

There are 3 grades of clay-fine, medium, and heavy…they are all going to leave a bit of micro marring, obviously the fine grade being the least invasive. You shouldn’t really use the medium or heavy grades unless you are planning to polish directly after. The clay lube you use matters as well in terms of aggressiveness- you really need something with lots of lubricity to clay with the least amount of marring 😊

Just rinse! If it's questionable it may be time to get a new clay scrubber.
