I used one of those cheapo synthetic clay mitts I got off Amazon (looks like McKee's but crappy plastic-like "clay") on my black car during a rain, thinking that would ensure I had more than enough lubrication, and it induced minor scratching! All the bodylines looked like hell til I polished and there were 1 or 2 fine scratches I could see on every panel in natural light. I know for a fact I did not apply pressure, the only mistakes I can think of is I probably should have got a brand name clay mitt, and I probably did not scrub it hard enough against the windshield first to prime the surface. Lesson learned.

You need lubricant water is not enough
@theredscourge
@theredscourge 10 ай бұрын
@@caseG80 A clay lubricant is like 95% water, so water is definitely enough, especially since I was doing this in the rain. The problem was that the clay media on the mitt was almost like a plastic sort of thing attached to the mitt, and it had pokey corners and I hadn't noticed until it was too late.

@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer 3 ай бұрын
Quick Beads isn't meant to be used as a clay lube. It's a spray on rinse off sealant. If you want to do a "clay and seal" type thing, the DIY Detail Ceramic Gloss is a better option. See a video I made with Yvan from DIY Detail, where we show the "clay and seal" steps: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jYKrkIWMhNmliKMsi=b86czyu8bLUiiYPN If you want to use Quick Beads, you'd have de wash the car first, then do the decon step with the DIY Detail decon towel and iron remover as clay lube (so you're also removing iron contamination at the same time), and then once you rinse, while the car is wet, you can spray Quick Beads, wait 30 seconds, and then rinse and dry the car.

Your options are clay, polish, seal or clay, polish, wax - you shouldn't be sealing straight after claying nor polishing without fully decontaminating your paintwork. Your only choice is actually the protection type you finish with, and wax is bullshit so essentially there is no logical choice at all.

If the snow foam has enough lubrication qualities yes, many like to use that. I still prefer a dedicated clay lubricant personally. But before you clay, make sure the car is washed. Once rinsed, you can re-foam and then clay if you want to use the snow foam as a clay lube.

How often should I use a clay towel and iron x on my car. And do I only put my clay towel in my wash bucket once at the beginning
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer Жыл бұрын
You only clay paint that needs it. Wash your car and then feel the paint, especially in the lower parts of the doors. If you feel grit or contamination, it’s time to clay. If it feels glass smooth, you can skip claying. If it has been over six months since you last clayed your vehicle, it most likely needs claying. Iron removers are generally recommended once every 3-4 months, or as needed depending on your level of iron contamination.

This video was informative and worth watching again. I have been using the DIY perforated synthetic decontamination towel for a year and wow does it work. Only once did I have to bring out the Rag Company clay bar for a heavily contaminated vehicle. A fun fact about the DIY iron remover is how well it cleans too. On a job once I was on the platform ladder and noticed heavy contamination where the windshield and glass meet as this had not been cleaned in over ten years. I did not want to get down the ladder so I sprayed DIY iron remover into a detail brush and this instantly cleaned the heavily contaminated paint. Ceramic Gloss used with the clay n seal along with DIY rinseless wash is money. I do like the smaller clay mitt from the Rag Company for cleaning the glass on the interior side and I need to pick one up. Thank you for another cutting edge video Pan!

I’m sure Ivan is a great guy with lots of knowledge, but a recent video he did makes me feel I can trust his word any more. In the video he and his partner claim any person working alone can prep and polish and entire car in under and hour. In the video they work on a car but only do the one side facing the camera. The video was partly to tout these time-saving trucks. When I wrote a comment saying you can do a quality prep and polish in an hour, they doubled down on the claim and linked to another video for proof. But in that video Ivan was working on a tiny Miata, he had another person working with him the whole time, and it still took them an hour and 40 minutes. After that I just can’t believe him any longer, and there’s no way I’m letting his branded product on my car if he’s willing to so easily tarnish his reputations with ridiculous claims.

@@diydetailofficial Sorry I'm not buying it. There was no camera work being done in the Miata video. Just on a tripod while you and another person did the work, which was the whole point of the video: an uncut view of the whole process. But it still took you 1 3/4 hours with two people. Do a video of you alone doing all of that work with a couple of cameras on tripods again and get in close with before and after shots. I don't think there's a true professional out there that believes a good proper paint wash and polish can be done in under an hour by one person.

I myself, like the clay bar because I can "feel" the paint better and know when it's really working or if I need a heaver clay. Note: I only use a bar when used with a stripping wash soap and not once the car has been protected, then use a clay towel once a month after the whole car was protected. "Me and my clay bar are one with the car". It's also nothing for me to use 2 bottles of clay lube on a car, just so I know I'm getting enough lube.

Is the rag company’s clay towel washable ? Either with rinse less wash or rags to riches maybe ? And how many uses can we get out of it ?
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer 2 ай бұрын
Yes you can clean clay towels, but not in your laundry. Just rinse them after use, and that's it. Let them air dry, ready for next use. If they're super dirty, rinse in warm water, spray some APC, lightly rub with your hands and rinse again. A traditional clay bar is typically good for 6 to 8 cars depending on the size of cars and how badly contaminated they are. Clay towels, especially higher quality ones like the TRC or the DIY Detail synthetic perforated decon towel are good for dozens and dozens of washes. And if you drop those towels, just rinse and reuse. Contrary to a clay bar that if you drop it, you have to throw it in the garbage. Welcome to my channel. What is iron remover exactly? Is that similar to a bug and tar remover?
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer 8 ай бұрын
An iron remover is made to help remove iron particles that typically come from brake dust, industrial fallout and rail dust. They are often seen on light colored cars as those orange little specs of rust on the paint. All color cars have those, it's just more easy to see on a white car for example. So like a tar remover spray helps remove tar contamination, an iron remover spray helps to remove iron particles contamination from painted surfaces, glass, and wheels. See my video on iron removers explained: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jZDGqnuwaL2mqbc And see an iron remover in action on a white car here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iXi1i4aKj5JlqtE Also, I highly recommend that you watch my Detailing 101 series for beginners, where I explain different steps like iron removers, clay bar, polishing, protection, etc. It's super simple once you understand the basics, and your car will look and feel 100x better! Define what you mean by "enough"? Bead Maker isn't made for long term protection. It lasts 3-4 weeks at best. It's designed for its gloss and slickness mainly. If long term protection is your main objective, look elsewhere. There are spray products that can last 6-12 months now.
