This video was informative and worth watching again. I have been using the DIY perforated synthetic decontamination towel for a year and wow does it work. Only once did I have to bring out the Rag Company clay bar for a heavily contaminated vehicle. A fun fact about the DIY iron remover is how well it cleans too. On a job once I was on the platform ladder and noticed heavy contamination where the windshield and glass meet as this had not been cleaned in over ten years. I did not want to get down the ladder so I sprayed DIY iron remover into a detail brush and this instantly cleaned the heavily contaminated paint. Ceramic Gloss used with the clay n seal along with DIY rinseless wash is money. I do like the smaller clay mitt from the Rag Company for cleaning the glass on the interior side and I need to pick one up. Thank you for another cutting edge video Pan!

I myself, like the clay bar because I can "feel" the paint better and know when it's really working or if I need a heaver clay. Note: I only use a bar when used with a stripping wash soap and not once the car has been protected, then use a clay towel once a month after the whole car was protected. "Me and my clay bar are one with the car". It's also nothing for me to use 2 bottles of clay lube on a car, just so I know I'm getting enough lube.

Agree that one advantage of a bar is that the clay bar gives you a true feel. Another trick is to cut small working bits so you dont rrash a whole or larger piece if it hits the floor

I used one of those cheapo synthetic clay mitts I got off Amazon (looks like McKee's but crappy plastic-like "clay") on my black car during a rain, thinking that would ensure I had more than enough lubrication, and it induced minor scratching! All the bodylines looked like hell til I polished and there were 1 or 2 fine scratches I could see on every panel in natural light. I know for a fact I did not apply pressure, the only mistakes I can think of is I probably should have got a brand name clay mitt, and I probably did not scrub it hard enough against the windshield first to prime the surface. Lesson learned.
@caseG80 Жыл бұрын
You need lubricant water is not enough
@theredscourge Жыл бұрын
@@caseG80 A clay lubricant is like 95% water, so water is definitely enough, especially since I was doing this in the rain. The problem was that the clay media on the mitt was almost like a plastic sort of thing attached to the mitt, and it had pokey corners and I hadn't noticed until it was too late.

Is it as effective or more effective in your opinion? Like the idea of a clay mitt while washing. Would you wash, then clay wash? Or is that a redundant step.
@dragonwithak Жыл бұрын
Clay mitts have the ability to absorb a lot of clay lube media such as rinseless wash or a very lubricating car shampoo but they shouldn't be used on a dirty car just like any claybar as you might induce deep scratches and marring

Always wash the car first, before claying! You don't want to be rubbing that extra loose dirt and debris further in the paint, causing more marring and damage!

Don’t know what I’m doing wrong or why everyone is so hot and heavy on clay towels and mitts. I’ve got a 23 Subaru that was rarely out of the garage its first year of life. Black with perfect paint. It has a ceramic coating, and lately I’ve had to drive it quite a bit. It gets washed weekly, but has been picking up embedded road grime behind the front wheels mostly the lower half of the doors. A clay mitt/towel barely removed the grit. I used a lot of lubricant and had to apply more pressure than I was comfortable with. I grabbed a new clay bar and it was gone in five seconds with zero pressure. Is it me? Or are these mitts and towels being pushed by the industry as a new revenue source that will appeal to the masses?

Yeah... I learned to my expense that you can't use CarPro Trix as a clay lubricant when you use a clay mit... and it was a white car... The clay material turned to a tar like gelly and started spreading itself on the white paint... luckily, Trix itself was obviously able to solubilize the now spread clay material so I was able to remove the big black streaks from the car. Now I have to purchase a new clay towel...

PAN! I have a question!!! I’ve been spraying cars for years in a professional bodyshop in the UK. It gets very dusty in the Workshop from sanding. I want your opinion on the BEST way to remove the dust that collects on the car while it sits there waiting for the customer to collect. A quick air blow off, and a light wipe over with a California duster or? A detailer and clean lambs wool cloth perhaps? I do not want to wax or seal the car in anyway, or apply any detailer that requires moderate buffing or may cause smears. I just want to remove dust without causing scratches. And adding a super glossy deep slick shine, is secondary, and I only want that if it’s super easy and quick, otherwise, extra slickness doesn’t bother me, just want dust removal in that case. I want to do something that takes just 5 minutes and no effort, to clean dust off an entire car. I would consider a detailer that’s super fast to use and takes next to no effort to buff smears off nicely. I love Meguires detailer but still don’t know if what I do, puts tiny swirls in or not. What would you suggest? Worst part about detailers I find is getting it on the edges of windows ever so slightly, then trying to wipe it off cleanly, and the black sticky dirt on the rubber seals and plastic trims, rub along the edges of glass making it super hard to get the spray off nicely.
@PanTheOrganizer Жыл бұрын
Never dry wipe a vehicle with California dusters. Those are not good for the paint! If there's only a VERY light layer of dust, you could use a plush microfiber towel and quick detail spray to lightly mist and wipe the surface. But ideally, I would always prefer a proper hand wash. There are no real miracles to avoid scratches unless you are using proper washing and drying methods.

Just watching another past video of yours on the P&S Bead Maker…. How would you compare P&S Bead maker to Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions Ceramic Spray? I had watched your previous vide and learned about Turtle Wax Hybrid Ceramic spray and have used it since. But after watching your yesterdays video, i am curious about P&S. I’m a weekend DIYer and by no means an expert but LOVE to keep my car shinny smooth, water beading results and of course gain time back.
@PanTheOrganizer Жыл бұрын
You can’t compare both products. Bead Maker is just a regular paint sealant. Not ceramic. It doesn’t last that long (3-4 weeks in general). Where it excels is for gloss and slickness. So we use it as a maintenance topper over existing protection. The Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions Ceramic Spray Coating is a long term ceramic based protection. If you apply two layers, 24 hrs between layers, it can last 8-9+ months. So you don’t use the Turtle Wax for regular weekly washes. But you could use Bead Maker after each wash as a drying aid if you wanted.

You can use a snow foam car soap as the lubricant?
@PanTheOrganizer11 ай бұрын
If the snow foam has enough lubrication qualities yes, many like to use that. I still prefer a dedicated clay lubricant personally. But before you clay, make sure the car is washed. Once rinsed, you can re-foam and then clay if you want to use the snow foam as a clay lube.

@PanTheOrganizer5 ай бұрын
Quick Beads isn't meant to be used as a clay lube. It's a spray on rinse off sealant. If you want to do a "clay and seal" type thing, the DIY Detail Ceramic Gloss is a better option. See a video I made with Yvan from DIY Detail, where we show the "clay and seal" steps: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jYKrkIWMhNmliKMsi=b86czyu8bLUiiYPN If you want to use Quick Beads, you'd have de wash the car first, then do the decon step with the DIY Detail decon towel and iron remover as clay lube (so you're also removing iron contamination at the same time), and then once you rinse, while the car is wet, you can spray Quick Beads, wait 30 seconds, and then rinse and dry the car.
@jeffmutter22865 ай бұрын
@@PanTheOrganizer ok, thanks. Both ways are clear to me. I will decide which route to go. Do you have a preference? I get the spray on rinse off idea…I have used Meguirs hybrid ceramic wax, which is spray on rinse off after you’ve done the base coat. Should I choose the quick beads or ceramic gloss? Question: do I then rinse down the car? Question. If I feel the need to use the iron remover product do i do it right after the paint sealant process. Prior to doing the ceramic coating? Thanks
@PanTheOrganizer10 ай бұрын
You do NOT use a paint protectant before applying a ceramic coating. The goal before applying a coating is to clean, decontaminate the paint, polish it to remove imperfections and previous protectants, and IPA wipe to remove polishing oils and then apply the coating. See my ceramic coating application tutorial here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qaK0iomgraukgZI

The question that remains: do all of these towels and pads actually work? On a clay bar you can clearly see all the contaminants. That's stil a big advantage.
@PanTheOrganizer Жыл бұрын
You know it works as the paint becomes smooth. When you don’t feel the contamination anymore, it did its job. I have no need for claybars anymore except in the rare occasions where I have a super contaminated vehicle that hasn’t been clayed for years.
@Dutch79 Жыл бұрын
@@PanTheOrganizeryes, that's easier when there are a lot of contaminants. But with regular claying you have the visual result of the claying process.

Is the rag company’s clay towel washable ? Either with rinse less wash or rags to riches maybe ? And how many uses can we get out of it ?
@PanTheOrganizer4 ай бұрын
Yes you can clean clay towels, but not in your laundry. Just rinse them after use, and that's it. Let them air dry, ready for next use. If they're super dirty, rinse in warm water, spray some APC, lightly rub with your hands and rinse again. A traditional clay bar is typically good for 6 to 8 cars depending on the size of cars and how badly contaminated they are. Clay towels, especially higher quality ones like the TRC or the DIY Detail synthetic perforated decon towel are good for dozens and dozens of washes. And if you drop those towels, just rinse and reuse. Contrary to a clay bar that if you drop it, you have to throw it in the garbage. Welcome to my channel. Hello , Thank you for these videos they are very helpful. I have a 2023 vehicle that the dealership scratched up during washing it . I got them to pay for a 2 step correction without ceramic at a well known top detailing company which came out perfect not a single scratch left, but its been about 4 or 5 months and when I dry with micro towels they seem to resist so I think its time to seal with wax or some type of ceramic, but should I clay first ?
@PanTheOrganizer Жыл бұрын
It depends if your paint needs claying or not. Wash the car, then rinse, then run your fingers on the panels especially the lower parts of the doors and bumpers. If you feel grit or contamination, it needs claying. If it feels glass smooth, you can skip claying. But for sure, when a car is freshly polished, ALWAYS apply some sort of protection afterwards (wax, sealant or ceramic coating). You don't want to leave your clear coat exposed to the elements unprotected.
