On today’s camp basics video series, Chef Dean walks us through preparing one of his favorite trail meals; Chicken Teriyaki Stir Fry.
Ingredients featured in this video:
- Pre-Cooked & Pre-Cut Chicken (8oz bag)
- Honey Teriyaki Sauce
- Beef & Broccoli Flavored Rice
- 2+ cups of water (or what rice directions call for + some extra)
- Carrots
- Snap Peas
- Broccoli
- Crispy Wonton Noodles
Cooking Time: approximately 20 minutes
- 9 minutes for rice
- 3 minutes for adding chicken
- 2-3 minutes each for adding vegetables.
Feeds: 2-4 people depending on appetite
Cost: $10-15 depending on ingredients
Chef Notes & Sasquatch's Pro Tips:
- If you'd rather not spend a lot time doing meal prep at your campsite, you can always chop all ingredients before your trip and store them in freezer bags.
- If you are cooking in a hurry, opt for instant rice. Long grain varieties often require 25-30 minutes of cooking time.
- We prefer using precooked chicken; not only does it save you time and mess on the trail, but it also assures that your meat will be trail-safe.
- When dicing broccoli, always cut from the stems down and from inside out. This assure you won’t get "messy" broccoli.
Get Cooking
- Prepare skottle by clearing out napping squirrels (We’ll save the squirrel gravy recipe for another day). Turn the skottle on high heat and bring 2-3 cups of water to a boil.
- While the water is coming up to temperature is a good opportunity to chop veggies if you haven’t already. Quarter carrots and dice Broccoli.
- While you wait on the rice add sauce to chicken and shake/mix well.
- Reduce heat on rice to prevent water from boiling. When rice is nearly tender and most of the water is absorbed, move rice it to the outer rim of the Skottle to keep it warm. If needed, add extra water.
- Place chicken in the center of the Skottle and warm it.
- Mix with rice.
- Add carrots next as they take slightly longer to cook. Cover with a lid and simmer for three minutes. Remove lid and add broccoli. Replace the lid and simmer until broccoli is tender. Serve on plates and garnish with wonton noodles.
- Fight off any pilfering squirrels.
- Enjoy!
Final Note: This recipe can easily be doubled on the Skottle to feed more people.

It's an older one. And honestly, I wouldn't worry too much about it. The igniter is somewhat fickle and you can see from me almost lighting my arm on fire.
