As an amateur that has a genuine obsession with pool(possibly unhealthy if you ask the wife) I watch so much professional play, but I find that amateur content is much more relatable. It also weirdly helps you learn to watch those at your skill level or slightly above your skill level because your knowledge is similar, and while you may see the pros do something, you don’t necessarily have the knowledge to know how or why they play the shot like this or that. Watching amateur play has surprisingly helped my game by not having to make such jumps and leaps from what I can currently do or know. Found another great amateur channel with good quality, editing, and of course commentary! Keep it up, can’t wait to meet you in the finals of the us open one day! 😂

I am so glad it popped up for me. Great video, commentry and all. I am an amateur player myself in Poland (I would estimate myself as 5-6 in your APA system) and it's nice to see people struggle with the same pool problems all around the world :) One question - the tables are very, very dirty. I get that the owners would like to change the cloth if it's absolutely necessary, but could they not just clean it? It's cheap. Or you could get a few friends from your league and offer to wash it for free. It makes a huge difference to play on a clean cloth.
@mikestuckey8 ай бұрын
yes, tell me about it… they’re so dirty. Nice to see you’re watching from Poland! do you have pool leagues there?
@MD-vy9jb8 ай бұрын
@@mikestuckey There are three national leagues, but the lowest one would be apa7 or 8 at least (i.e. not for me). Plus there are local amateur cups, but no consistent scoring system, unfortunately. We usually play on well maintained, tight 9ft tables though, so it's difficult to compare 121 with your matches (no hate on smaller tables, just telling there is a difference in setup). Anyway, good luck with your pool adventure, thanks for sharing your amateur pov. I appreciate it even more than pro matches, you are so relatable 😄
@cosc1377 ай бұрын
@31:40 Hi Mike, I notice on POV that your practice strokes are not straight. Imagine there is a straight line from the center of the cue ball to where the center of the cue ball would be when it hits the object ball. If you focus on your tip following through on that straight line, you will increase your pot percentage.
@AyooJoey8 ай бұрын
Loving the videos. Can you keep it in POV longer until the ball drops in the pocket? Feel like you cut way too early.
@mikestuckey8 ай бұрын
spot on bro! The problem is I pop up before the ball goes in and it’s super jarring to leave that camera view on. But y he last match that I recorded I made a point to stay down as long as possible. So we will see it better with the next POV style! Thanks for the feedback as always!

I do not play APA but I do play Napa pool league. They have the same rules as BCA. Does not really matter what kind of stick you have you just need to make sure you have a good tip. I can only play on 9 fts and I only play on small tables on league....7 diamonds.
@mikestuckey8 ай бұрын
Having a good tip is a good tip!! Thank my friend!!
@cj-ef1rp8 ай бұрын
Regarding the comment about your head shifting from cue to object ball, it could be that you are doing that because of your vision through your glasses. If when you are down and focused on the cue, just shift your eyes and verify you can see the object ball clearly. Can you? There are “pool glasses” that much taller lenses to assist players who wear them while playing. My point is this could be unintentional but necessary. Use a camera to watch your face while you shoot long shots (straight at your face from the opposite rail). That will tell you if it’s happening always.
@mikestuckey8 ай бұрын
The face cam idea is super insightful. I'll do that. And thanks for the feedback!! It may be because of the glasses.

You should really work on a your pre shot routine. Stand back from the shot and walk into the aim line (you are standing over the ball and then going down on your shot). Take a walk around the shot. See all the different angles. This helped me go from a SL 4 to SL 7 in 2 seasons.

I notice that you are having hesitancy on your stroke, just like I have been. Go to 7:13 and put the video in .25 speed, as you go through the ball you suddenly pull back which can make your aim slightly off. You also may have hit the ball a bit too hard or maybe your alignment was a bit off. I have been trying to analyze the alignment issue I may have when playing, and it looks like you might have one as well. There is another KZbinr (who is 6’5”) and he just made a video about aligning your body on the path. I myself am 6’4” so I find the alignment sometimes difficult. Do you ever consider the different things that could be affecting your shots?
