when you're sitting in your van in the freezing winter and its all warm and cosy inside, it will feel all the more better knowing how much work was involved in putting that pipe in. What a job

I installed a Chinese diesel heater 5K in my Sprinter 41/2 years ago and so far no trouble whatsoever and it saved me over a thousand dollar. We had many -30C weather up here in the North and it can maintain temperature of 17C -22C inside the van. You may need to get used with the tic noise from the fuel pump. By having a separated tank, you can drain the fuel line in the summer and clean the combustion chamber with injector solution though the fuel line as part of the maintenance.

Loved the post-hoc advice on safety glasses! The sooner you lads ditch the vans for bikes and tents, the sooner this frippery of heaters and whatnot goes away. Simpler is better. Less things can break. Candles and Kelly Kettles! It's the only heater worth a damn.

Boxer fuel sender is accessed from inside the cab, under the middle seat, under the a plastic cover. No need to drop the tank. I still think teeing into a fuel line is simplest.

Nice one guys, when it got to 9:40 I was shouting at the screen... No!!! it's not through the retaining ring :D lol The first thing that came into my mind with that small flexible fuel line is it really needs a "Fuel Tank Clunk" A weighted pick-up that the hose pushes onto to keep it always at the bottom of the tank. They are used in airplane tanks so no matter the angle of the tank the fuel line always falls to the lowest point. Some have inbuilt filters so they don't pick up and crap form your tank, I know you have a filter in the line so that not critical. I know you won't go through that whole process again now to fit one but worth mention for others thinking of doing this. Carry a gallon of diesel in the back of the van just in case your heater uses all your fuel overnight :D Excellent video guys, when you are opening the workshop to other van lifers?

I also was thinking that a weight and filter would be a great idea in case the plastic tube floats. That looked like a fiddly and awkward job. I think I will just use the additional tank in my Trafic as this looks like a complete PITA! Well done though guys.

Well done again... You wouldn't have done it as easy on a Transit..? The bolts that hold the tank on would have snapped off.. And yes.. you raise them about 2 to 3 inches off the bottom of the tank so that you done run all the fuel out and cant drive anywhere.. Its easier to bleed the heater that the engine.. @alanmay1945
@alanmay1945 4 жыл бұрын
Yes I was thinking that too, working cramped up underneath is'nt the best way and I kept wondering why they continued like that. But further to this, there is a previous comment above where the new fuel line is simply tapped into the vehicle fuel line with a T section that was provided with the heater, and referred to fitting it in the instructions book provided. I don't see why this could'nt be done, so avoiding all this dropping of the tank malarkey. Alan, Norfolk UK.
@tonytca9439
@tonytca9439 4 жыл бұрын
@@alanmay1945 Be careful tapping in to the fuel line. Its a pumped circuit with a return and can force too much fuel into the heater. The heater pump is a metered dose pump. Also some vehicles have a lifter pump pressure sensor and you can also trigger a check engine light You might get away with it but ts a lot safer to go into the tank.

Nice job , will be fitting mine soon i hope , ive sent away for a smaller 2.5l tank which i hope to fit in its own sealed box , dont fancy the smell of diesel hanging around so will have to be very careful filling up , dropping the tank looks expensive as i couldnt manage that on my own ,,does your exhaust vent to the nearside , i hope to route offside so i dont gas myself when i have the awning up, summer in the uk can be chilly -)

handy video for the vw t5 followers just got mine and was wandering where to fit it Was it a tight fit under the seat with the wiring that's in there Think I will wait for the better weather to plumb into the tank being 200 mls north of you But now I know what to expect thanks lads
@onemanandhiswhippet
@onemanandhiswhippet 5 жыл бұрын
+hawk wind no problem And yes it fits very well under the seat however if you are going to use an awning you need to direct the exhaust to the other side of the van to stop filling the awning with CO2 the other thing you can do is add an extension after the exhaust silencer permanently or have a temporary one you can fit when using an awning Fitting to the tank is ok just need two people and a ramp would make it a lot easier There’s also the possibility of fitting a Y or T pice into your fuel line before the fuel pump and use that as your fuel feed One last thing if you do fit a pipe in your tank if it goes to the bottom of the tank you have the small possibility of running the tank and van out of fuel Good luck Best Regards Dave, Jo and Louie 👍😀🐾

First thing when doing this job......run fuel down low. Makes dropping tank lot easier. Secondly wouldn’t run the line straight into tank like you did. You should have use a straight metal pick up pipe. Goes through sender unit as yours does but being rigid will always be at bottom of tank drawing fuel. Plus it bolts through sender and seals with rubber grommets. No mastic or whatever it was.

Hello Dave, thank you, you have provided loads of information. I am wondering; when you inserted the fuel tube into the fuel sender, you used silicone to seal the hole. Did this provide a good seal that you have not had any problems as I have heard that the fuel tank is pressured and needs to be fully 100% sealed. I am going to install a Chinese diesel heater myself into my VW T6 this summer. I am wondering if I need to purchase a fuel rode to insert it into the fuel sender to provide a proper seal and does your method with the silicone work. As this would be easier and less costly as long as it creates a proper seal and causes no problem in the future. Thanks again for all your information and I look forward to hearing your input.

Steve Hughes illegal to use red in a social, domestic, pleasure road vehicle. You need a permit to buy it as road haulers, farmers have.

Nice video lads, i did this on my own at the weekend a little time consuming. Just out of interest with the new hole in the fuel tank sender would you see any possibility of a leak through the new hole when the tank is full to the brim? Also if the sender isn't super air tight would you foresee any problems? Mine is running fine at the moment! Cheers Kieran

Great video, just wondered if you have had any issues with just using sealant on the pipe in the fuel sender? Looking at installing my fuel pipe over the weekend some videos say use a stand pipe but I don’t fancy waiting weeks for one to turn up 🤣

Not sure you should have the air intake coming in from the cab. Surely drawing air from outside would be better otherwise as the heater warms the air in the van, the intake in the cab would be drawing hot air from inside the van, as opposed to fresh air from outside?
@onemanandhiswhippet
@onemanandhiswhippet 5 жыл бұрын
Yes we moved the intake to the end of the van so it can take the air from outside Thanks for watching best regards Dave, Jo and Louie 👍😀🐾🍺🍟

I have noticed the same thing as you have stated about drawing cold air from outside instead of the warm air that would be in the car. On Kiravans' website in their installation video, they are also drawing air from inside the vehicle. I mean for the heating system inside our vehicle, I believe the air is also being drawn from the outside. I plan to mount my diesel heater under the chassis. Now do you forsee any problems with me drawing air from the outside from under the chassis. The problem I could forsee is the fact the pipe could be sludge, dirt, mud, salt could go into the pipe. Thanks

@onemanandhiswhippet 5 жыл бұрын
Van Kaenthongrath yep the one on the T5 is set outside and the other one is in to the end of the van to take the air from the outside Both are working well The one on the big van (Mevi’s van) is going to be moved to have the full unit outside in a box underneath the van

+trevor hartley just one thing to consider if you do fit the exhaust in the same place as we did and you going to be using the awning you may need to have an extension pipe to fit so the CO2 can be directed away from awning All you need is a pipe that you can fit after the silencer when on a camp site Hope that helps 👍 Regards 👍😀🐾🍺🍟🎄

Great channel could you help me with a question I have I’m thinking of putting one of these heaters in my 10 x 12 work shed but was wondering how I can use my 240 mains electric on a 12 volts heater is there a way to do it with some kind of step down Device if there is do you know what it is and were I can get it or something else I can do thanks hope you can help cheers 👍👍🇬🇧
@onemanandhiswhippet
@onemanandhiswhippet 5 жыл бұрын
+RODPIKER Hi there I would say the easy way it to have a 12v battery linked to a battery charger 👍 you can also put a timer plug on the 240V socket so the charger only come on from time to time to spot if running all the time 👍 If you use a battery charger that’s got the facility to monitor the input it will switch its self on and off when the battery needs the recharge Possibly link the battery to a Solar panel unit is another option👍 You may also be able to get a transformer that give 12v DC at around 10amps The heater only uses low amps when running but up to around 8amps to start and shut down this is to power the glow plug . Hope that helps Best Regards Dave, Jo and Louie 👍😀🐾

You can buy 240v to 12v cigarette lighter style mains adapters. Pick them up in Halfords easy, save some cash buying from Amazon. Here's the first one I found on Amazon, not my endorsement and THIS one might not be strong enough for the big Amps these heaters use on startup and shutdown, but now you know what's available. www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00PUNIEI2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_qf2eCbQDT7G0C

There no legal requirement to have a separate tank unless you are using tax free fuel in the uk you can get heating oil that’s a tax free Diesel for heating and domestic use However you can’t use it in a car or van on the highways 👍😀🐾
@matterhorn1975

It works out cheaper to have a separate tank if you are in the UK, as you can use red diesel which is half the cost of road diesel, also believe it or not red diesel is more refined than road going diesel 👍 I have used to the 10L tank that came with the heater, and when the heater is up to temp and goes into tick over mode the tank will last 100 hours.
