I enjoy watching these guys train, and they always have this great attitude, always willing to learn more and better themselves, not only as lifters but as athletes. Watching dudes like Zhang and Zhiyong train with injuries and be all like "well shit happens sometimes, what are you gonna do, still got to train" makes me think twice about whining about my aching joints to my coach. Truly inspirational stuff.

@RPenta Good one. What was your idea of a good weightlifting facility? Do you do OL? The ones in the video are good because it's just platforms, jerk boxes, squat stands, barbells, and plenty of plates. All you need for OL. I like that it's big and open, too. You can see everyone else training around you, and people can motivate and push each other.
@JacktheDaniels12 жыл бұрын
@MrJervilla Yeah, it's also a lot about timing, positioning, and flexibility. If you're out of position on the catch then the mechanical disadvantage (leaning over, etc.) makes it really hard to stand up with the weight. I used to squat 405 lbs. and clean 200, but now that I squat less often and do more OL's I can clean 260 (but my squat went down to 350 b/c I haven't been working on it as much. It sucks, I need to start working on it more again.).

just a question, when they pause for a second before doing the press in the beginning where do they rest the weight? shoulders or that bone right below the neck?
@wullebulle12315 жыл бұрын
thats one hell of a gym
@Sarge34313 жыл бұрын
@thericky1 they rest the bar just behind the clavicle, on the shoulders. That position demand a bit of flexibility, so try practicing with just the bar, having only 1 or 2 fingers under it and keeping your elbows high, over time it becomes natural (and quite confortable!)

@pseudoBearmode but it is essential if you train seriously at any level the amount of damage you cause to your muscle requires a higher intake of proteins and other nutrients.. you can buy meat or you can use shakes or both

if you got 10 thumbs up it doesn't mean you're right. i personally know Olympic lifters and they don't use steroids, so don't generalize. winning without cheating has a better intense feeling. lots of people have integrity. if you happen not to know .. too bad for you

@cannonbulk that's very true! im 6'03 and have a very weak squat and clean compared to my deadlift. deadlift definitely feels much easier for me with having longer legs.

you always work as hard as you'r body is able to work. i'm probably working even harder than many others because i have school - work and training every day all day. if i could get fed as much as i want when i want and relax and all i have to do is train 4-5 times a day that would be a heaven for me. trust me, ive been to camps just for the sake of my training and its very relaxing compared to my everyday life and training, but its still hard yes. i dont know if you get it or not.. but yeah

I think those are jerk drives, to help them accelarate the bar overhead in the jerk.

Man, I wished I had tried harder to watch all of the weightlifting competition during the 2008 Olympics. I only caught pieces of the Women. These stories really make you feel for them.
@MetalForeverLives211 жыл бұрын
This depends on many factors, such as dosages, the compounds you take, etc... The only thing that would be slightly noticeable are more rounded delts, due to the increased androgen receptor density. Keep in mind though, that these people are doing these olympic lifts for somewhere around 8 hours DAILY. Of course you'd need hormonal support to recover from that.

when you snatch, clean and jerk, you lock your back by contracting the muscles. and you use some of your back when you bring the weight up.

Those are jerk drives. They use a weight around 110-120% of their max jerk and initiate the jerk, but don't actually jump under and catch it.

well check powerlifter/strongman misha koklyaev who snatched over 460lbs (he does have a very very strong weightlifting background though, winning 6 national titles in russia) what I would really like to see is a olympic weightlifer deadlift 800lbs. because entering the 900 club is pretty much impossible.

@shortfatandcrass14 жыл бұрын
Would be great if they revamped all of powerlifting and make it so that you have to lift raw. Only thing that can be used is chalk. Make it so only the conventional deadlift will be accepted. Make it so that only a standard squat olympic style squat will be accepted and bring back the overhead press and ditch the 3" belly benching.
@jlirving13 жыл бұрын
This is so fucking true! For people who say weights stunt your growth, you're wrong. The reason majority of elite O lifters are shorter is because the shorter you are the higher the advantage you have in lifts such as the snatch, clean and Jerk and the power lift Squat. While some bigger taller blokes have a decent advantage with the Dead lift which is seen by many as the ultimate lift.!
@JacktheDaniels12 жыл бұрын
@MrJervilla There was once a soviet lifter who back squatted 450kg in preparation for a competition, but in the actual competition, he couldn't stand up with a 240kg clean. Also, I'm sure you're familiar with Mark Henry and Shane Hamman? They both tried their hand at weightlifting at the Olympics. Neither of them got a medal. Great strength alone doesn't ensure success at Olympic weightlifting. There are many more factors involved.

Can't believe every second comment here is about roids. The question about whether these athletes are phenomenal or not is boiled down to whether they take roids or not. The pounds on the barbells aside NO ONE in the freaking universe can acquire such perfect weighlifting techniques by taking any drug in the universe. Now, then why the fuck are the argument centered around a drug? Fuck off to a Bodybuilding video. Thank you.

They do not train bench press or any sort of chest press movement. Their chest are so big purely because of the amount of training they do on eery other part of the body which release so much growth hormones etc. that the chest will still grow. Most top-end weightlifters in the heavier categories will be able to bench over 300-400lbs if they were to try despite never doing a bench pres sin their life.
