There are USDA guidelines that are in effect The guide lines dictate what we can feed school children, feed our military, what people in hospitals can eat, and convalescent hospitals. Dr Fettke was sanctioned and his medical license taken away from him for 2 years for suggesting that someone that was facing a foot amputation should not be eating sugar. Even if a doctor knew what the optimal diet is but they are just regurgitating what they learned in medical school which was nothing about nutrition They would not be allowed because they are confined by the guidelines. The guidelines were put out to prevent starvation so that's why we have the seven cheapest foods as the base of the pyramid and the source of most of our calories.

Dr Westman, I appreciate your putting out these contents. For years, I had followed the Dietary Guideline for “healthy” eating. Eating mostly veggies, fruit, and whole grains; from expensive Whole Food stores with lean meat only. Got my 15k steps daily. And yet, the weight kept going up and up. Got all 5 of the metabolic syndrome conditions. Tried so many time that “calories in calories out”, eat very low calories, still focusing on predominantly plant. I was hungry all the time, never felt good. My weight yo-yo over the course of 3 years. None of the biomarkers improved. Found your content 5 weeks ago trying to understand why I’m failing with these “healthy” eating. Everything you said made a lot of sense. Switched to carb elimination. 5 weeks in, I was never hungry. Never counted calories. Lost 26 pounds, with 20 pounds lost from fat (per iHealth scale). My fasting glucose level dropped from 147 to 87. My blood pressure dropped from 147/107 to 117/78 My waist circumference dropped from 46 inches to 40 inches. My HDL went from 35 to 40 My triglycerides drop from 225 to 170 Still got some way toward becoming healthy. But I definitely see immediate improvement. I believe if I had continued to listen to these “nutrition made simple” experts pushing predominant plant food, I would continued to get worse.

Whilst I found the lack of dogma in the presenter's approach refreshing, I was left feeling that he was dithering, or unwilling to come down on any side of the debate. Perhaps, as you pointed out, this could be down to not having an agenda, be it low-carb, keto, vegan, or - a new one for me - predominantly plant. The plant versus animal protein argument is often overstated, and it is true that all the essential amino acids can be provided with the right combinations on a vegan diet. This, however, makes the assumption that the average consumers are nutritionally educated and aware. When you look at recent statistics here in the UK, where 800,000 people are presenting to health professionals with malnutrition - children with rickets - nutritional illiteracy would seem to be more the order of the day.

I have noticed that I do cravings for more carbs after my morning smoothie with blueberries. It's hard to eat less than 50 carbs a day even with just fruit in the morning and vegetables later. There is no room for anything else . That's the hard part of keto.

Myth: salt raises blood pressure. I've been measuring myself for two years. For example, if I eat 1.5 kg of meat and fat with 15 g of salt, my blood pressure will drop. Usually it's under110/75 and after a meal like that it's under 98/68 etc.
@FinalHeresy Жыл бұрын
If i remember correctly the issue is that salt restriction reduces bp by a fairly small amount, (like less than 5 systolic) certainly far smaller than losing weight or being more active would do. Your bp probably drops after a meal because your gi track is more active, your body is shunting more blood to that area, which would lower your bp reading on a cuff at the arm or wrist.

I listened to a large number of Dr. Gil Carvalho's KZbin videos. He clearly is intelligent with a M.D. and a Ph.D. in biology from Cal Tech; however, he is sold on a whole plant diet with minimal animal products to the point that he is not capable of thinking or analyzing studies unless they promote a plant-based diet.

Yep, what's even more off-putting is that he is very quiet about him being a vegan. Like dr. Gardener, another vegan masking as an unbiased scientist.
@alexr61144 ай бұрын
@@markotrieste I suspect that there is far more behind Dr. Christopher Gardner's efforts to push the vegan diet on Americans. Universities frequently receive very large grants from agrobusinesses and international food companies to do research that promotes their products as healthy. Universities also will do their best to get rid of faculty whose research interferes with the flow of that money from businesses. Dr. Gardner decided to sell his soul to continue to work at Stanford unless the reality is that he is a very poor scientist.
@alexr61144 ай бұрын
Dr. Carvalho's mother suffered from irritable bowel syndrome was apparently cured by a plant-based diet. Unfortunately, Dr. Carvalho is too influenced by this n=1 experiment and he ignores the other n=500,000 or more "experiments" that strongly suggest that the keto, ketovore, or carnivore diets are far more healthy for the average person. While there are people who can consume 150 grams of carbohydrate per day with minimal ill effects, the experience of most Americans proves that high carbohydrate diets lead to poor health, weight gain, diabetes, non alcoholic fatty liver disease, dementia, polycystic ovarian syndrome, and the intensity of the symptoms of number of psychiatric conditions (depression, anxiety, Parkinson's, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia). If those 150 grams are in the form of processed foods and include sugar, grains, and seed oils, the effects are typically far worse than if the carbs are in the form of unprocessed fruits and vegetables.

Here's are 3 compelling video links for your review. 😎 Quick story: I've seen your reaction videos in the past. After seeing the three linked videos which happens to be of this same nutritionist, I sought out your channel to see if you've done any reaction videos of this person, and here we are. And... I just now subbed after seeing this vid. The issue: I'm experimenting with a carnivore diet, and am still skeptical. That said, I'm seeing some benefits that many others see (reading hundreds of comments on a plethora of channels), and some that are surprising (positively so) and not typically discussed. But after a lifetime of hearing conventional wisdom (leading to fearing fat, etc.), shaking deeply held beliefs remains a challenge. Thus, when seeing this same nutritionist present a compelling argument backed by a barrage of studies in the three videos, that leads one to the conclusion that carnivore type diets (and probably keto too) are quite unhealthy, it does raise the level of concern. To be fair, he never mentions a particular diet, but does challenge the notion that high levels of saturated fats that leads to high serum cholesterol, are safe. I.e., he's essentially debunking what you have found in your own practice, and particularly, a carnivore diet that emphasizes saturated fats. I sincerely hope you'll take a look at any (or all) of the videos and consider it worthy of sharing your alternative point of view. Here's the primary link that caused me to seek you out: We're all confused about Red Meat. Here's Why. - kzbin.info/www/bejne/o4KYZ6iFoM-Wmck And here are the other two that I watched first, that lead me to seek you out for the primary link: The French Paradox: is Saturated Fat a hoax?? - kzbin.info/www/bejne/qomtaZilaLVjjJo The Truth about Saturated Fat | New Narrative Review - kzbin.info/www/bejne/o3OplmSHltmnd7c Always enjoy your presentations.👍 All the best!
