​@arjay2580 haha grand forks is much better off than Minot AFB. Minneapolis is 8 hrs one way trip, fargo is 4.5 hrs one way. Yes i agree its what you make it to a degree, BUT Minot lacks attractions and events fir younger people. Its a great place to retire and be left alone. And its grown alot in the 11 years ive liver here. But for young people there simply isnt enough to do. And when 5 months of the year is cold and snowy and theres no mountains aside from the "turtle hills" then you cant fully enjoy the outdoors. You can hunt and fish, sure. But i hardly classify ND deer rifle hunting because its mostly flat open land. More like "lets see if i can pick off this deer 1.5 miles away." Dont get me started on the leadership. Some of the worst people ive met in my entire 31 year life were my leadership up here. Minot AFB has a high sui cid e rate because of mistreatment and isolation. Its ot a great bass for young single folk.

@@overanalyzing Phew oh boy... Uh where to begin? It's bible-thumper country so you can't buy alcohol on Sundays, the corrupt "shifty-fifty" (50 business owners of Clovis) won't allow more than one bar in town - and you're likely to get stabbed there if you go - plus State police will be waiting outside of it. They patrol the whole town and they HATE Airmen (I've gotten more speeding tickets in the 2 and 1/2 years at Cannon than I have my entire life). The whole place smells like cattle feces from all the ranches and farms, flies are all over the place (they actually gave me a fly-swatter as part of a "welcome to Cannon" package), the weather is insane ranging from stupidly hot to freezing cold and tornadoes in between, the dorms suck and are overcrowded to where they had two Airmen to a room when I was there, off-base everything is run down and hasn't been renovated since the 40s and you'll be fighting with everyone to get a ghetto apartment that the owners can get away charging 5 times what any reasonable person would pay (since they pay attention to any raises in our housing allowance), and count on it getting broken into (mine did), the only thing fun to do in town is the shooting range and you'll be paying ridiculous money for that, unless you're really big into church like everyone else (you'll notice the billboard sign right outside the gate that has the 10 commandments on it), there's no clubs off base (while I was there) and the nearest civilization is Lubbock, TX that's an hour and a half away - and you can expect to be pulled over on your way there. There's this movie called "Hell or High Water" that was actually filmed in Portales (15 minutes away), watch that and you'll see exactly what you're in for. Oh yeah I hope you like tarantulas.

A flyswatter in the welcome package is crazzyyy I actually don’t mind western vibes and slower paces but the USAF would have never sent me to a place like Cannon based on my career field when I was in. Common bases for 2T2s are Travis, Dover , Ramstein etc. getting sent to a non major port base as a porter would have been a glitch in the matrix lmao

And of course the most popular such as yokota, the European bases and all those others that are the most popular. I myself spent my entire enlistment with Travis as my home station until getting out lol

I visited a friend in Travis, and I have to say that was the nicest military base I've ever seen. The grass is bright green, the leadership was decent, and they handed on BAH to literally everyone.

In the C-130 world, our Minot is Dyess AFB, Texas. When I was on my way out of tech school, there was a chick that just got there checking her assignment in the computer lab while I was checking to see if I got my orders. She got Dyess and legit started crying.
