Just got home from a very long stressful day at work and Listening to this while smoking a fine cigar with a little bit of Hennesy really helped me relax. Beautiful interpretation mate.

Wow, well done! This is one of my favorite pieces by Chopin, and one I eventually plan on learning.

Outstanding! I will definitely watch this one several times as I try to learn this piece. The dynamics you achieve from that keyboard are very nice.

Reminds me of a quote: "Practice is the great magician, who not only makes apparent impossibilities performable, but even easy." I'll bet you could do it if you invest enough time and practice into it. When I first started learning this piece I didn't think I'd ever be able to play the end stretto section. It took quite awhile before I was able to play it at tempo. I've been playing this piece for a few years though and it's gotten a lot easier since then. Just have to practice. =)

@xxxMrAwesomexxx: LOL, thanks for stopping by my channel. Yes I know exactly which scene you mean, I have Tombstone on DVD. If I recall correctly, he was playing Nocturne Op. 72 No. 1 in the movie (if you're interested!), great scene. =)

Lovely piece. It’s taken me a year to learn from memory. However this is the first piece I have chosen to learn and had only just then first touched the piano. Maybe another year to polish it off now. Great piece - thanks

Dear Schmoe - as I have said before not even Chopin could do it better. I have played this piece myself many times and know it in smallest detail. And could never end it as you showed. What an exhibition the last 20 seconds.

@makidude: I usually wear headphones, I don't really like the built-in speakers either. I record the sound straight into the computer using an analog audio cable (plugged into the L+R line-out connections on the back of the piano) and have it connected to the line-in port on my PC, and saved as an .mp3 in Audacity. Then I sync it up with the video from my camera (camera is muted so there's no background noise). The sound is the actual P-155 though, so it sounds the same as when I play it.
@X2Qrt2X14 жыл бұрын

@piano15R Thanks for the comment! On top of the pedaling I think I also kept the reverb setting up too high on a lot of my recordings and I'll try and keep it turned down a bit more in the future as it's a little excessive (it's good for some things like the Blade Runner piece but probably not for most stuff).

@Trykky88: Thanks! This is the only one I can play right now, I think most of the Nocturnes are harder than this. I tried learning Op. 55 No. 1 once and could play the first 3 pages but the 4th one proved too advanced. Might try again some day in the future though.

@AnotherSchmoe You're doing great so far with 23 5-star ratings. Impressive! ...especially, as you say, with some KZbinrs criticizing even the pro's. This piece is probably one of the most scrutinized on KZbin (this, and Fur Elise...lol). PS-I'm adding this to my new Chopin playlist. :-)
@BenjiPeterson15 жыл бұрын
Hey man. I commented to the song from The Big Lebowski on Terser's jumping spider vid and I'm going to have to say that this one reminds of Tombstone. "You know, Frederick f***ing Shopan?" Haha. Nice videos.
@cebukid7015 жыл бұрын
Schmoe, your interpretation has definitely matured since your last posting... (or is it just your new piano..hahaha..joking)....Seriously, great tempo and dynamics....you've definitely captured the feel of this piece. I envy your Chopin-playing skills..certain parts look really intimidating to me and difficult....maybe one day I'll play this too. :-)

@jacka9c: Thanks! All I can say is to practice it. I originally learned this piece a few years ago so by the time I made this newer recording I'd already had a lot of practice with it. When I started out on it I sounded horrible too. Best of luck!
@AnotherSchmoe15 жыл бұрын
@MikePinkney Thanks! You've probably heard it many times actually. It's used fairly often in movies and TV shows, as quiet background music to conversation scenes and such. =P

@Eric1029res Thanks. You are absolutely correct, the reverb in many of my videos was way too high and it turned out I had the damper resonance cranked up, wish I could go back and change them. I've turned it down for my more recent videos (except for intentional cases like the Vangelis covers) and it's seemed to help.
@AnotherSchmoe14 жыл бұрын
@MusicClassical1 Thanks! Not sure what to say except keep practicing, also try and practice the left hand separate from the right hand. Thankfully the same chords repeat a lot in this piece so once you learn them well it becomes easier to remember. I also keep my eyes on my left hand while I play (you can't see in the video but that's what I do), because if I watch my right hand I'll miss the jumps in the left. I only glance at my right hand when I need to move it further up the keys.

@booni09 Thanks, it took me about a month to learn but that was a few years ago and by the time I made this recording I'd played it quite a few times.
@AnotherSchmoe14 жыл бұрын
@Myxo1111 I've been playing for about 5 years (don't remember exactly when I started). Not sure how much I practiced it each day when I was learning it, was a pretty long time ago. Maybe an hour or two a day, maybe more or less depending on how I felt. It's just a hobby and I don't keep any kind of practice schedule though, I just play when I feel like it. I wasn't able to play it very good when I first learned it though, but it was a long time ago and I've gotten more practice since then.

@paulallen34 Hi there. The key tops are plastic and I think the piano weighs around 50lbs but I'm not sure exactly. It seems very sturdy though, I've had it for a little over a year and haven't had any keys go out or become stuck.
@Eric1029res14 жыл бұрын
@AnotherSchmoe and I've heard a lot about the piano sample from the grand, is it as good as they say? And the nocturne isn't that bad actually, it sounds scary and crazy, but its pretty easy until the 3rd section, that takes some practice.
@maaanny1613 жыл бұрын
i did the first bar of it and it was fine, but when it got to the turn i completely FAILED!! LOL. i wonder when ill be able to play this?! this was wonderful btw. and your piano sounds really nice! you play with a yamaha too?

Schmoes of the world, UNITE! (from one schmoe to another)
@AnotherSchmoe15 жыл бұрын
@makidude: It's fairly challenging to learn, but much of the piece is spent more or less repeating the same pattern (with only very slight variations) so isn't too much of a problem once you get it down. You'll probably end up spending most of your time practicing measure 17 and all of the last page, those are the more difficult parts. Good luck! =)
@AnotherSchmoe14 жыл бұрын
@Eric1029res I like it. The keys themselves aren't quite as responsive or supple as they are on many good acoustics, they're just a little on the heavy side IMO (doesn't seem to slow down Kyle Landry though, he plays really insane fast passages on his P-155). They are better than most digital pianos that I've tried. Though if it's possible I'd recommend finding a store where you can see for yourself. As for the Nocturne, I really love that one but it's way out of my league. =P
@AnotherSchmoe14 жыл бұрын
@reinoudoor Cool, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. =) The feel of the keys is nice too, not too hard and not too soft.
@Eric1029res14 жыл бұрын
Im thinking about getting the P155, how is the keyboard overall? Does the hammer action feel proper like an acoustic? And a cool piece I recommend you try is Nocturne 48 no 1 in c minor for you next video.
@makidude15 жыл бұрын
Is that Yamaha P155? I have it too! :D
@Nabokov5013 жыл бұрын
Would you say that in the price range, in your opinion, the P-155 is an excellent choice? I'm thinking of buying one.
@piano15R14 жыл бұрын
A very beautiful interpretation! However the sustain pedal was slightly 'murky' and held down for too long without changes, which caused some of the harmonies to overlap. Apart from that, a great performance with good hand technique =]
@makidude15 жыл бұрын
Awesome! Btw, did you use the speakers it came with or you hooked it a sound system?Or you recorded it with the piano midi and audioswapped it when you posted the video? Because the speakers with the P155 doesn't sound very good to me, especially full blast.
@connorg212113 жыл бұрын
How do you get your keyboard to sound exactly like a grand piano? its so beautiful!
@makidude15 жыл бұрын
Nice playing.. btw, is this piece hard? I looked at the sheet music, it looks formidable, but it sounds slow enough that I think I could do play it. Any troublesome parts?
@AnotherSchmoe15 жыл бұрын
@forwardtenth: Well, we can't worry too much about a few negative comments in the midst of so many positive ones. I've noticed negative comments even on professional recordings by such legends as Horowitz etc. I know, they are discouraging to read nonetheless. In any case, I truly enjoyed your performance of this piece. Thank you!

@AnotherSchmoe14 жыл бұрын
@myg0Troll Care to share the correct chords / notes then? What is your experience in this matter? Do you mean to tell me that Yundi Li and every other professional concert pianist is also playing it wrong? I am playing the exact same notes as they are (they have better technique and interpretation but that's another matter) and I didn't miss a single note in the entire recording. Of course you're trolling silly, you're the one that's starved for attention. Nice try though. ;)
