I talked to Kelly after the video and we discussed her motivation with regard to doing a video. Long story short, she died and shortly after her death I had been communicating with a family member. Ultimately, I feel it's an individual that should decide if they want to do a videotape. Kelly felt if her story saved one girl from following the same path it would all be worth it. When alerted of her death I spoke with a family member and asked the question as to whether I should leave the video up ot take it down. I was asked to take it down. I never thought much about it. I think the video has been down over two years. Today I clicked on the video and listened to her. Honestly, I had forgotten she left a message for young people to listen to their parents. The more I thought about it the more I felt I should upload the video again. After all, it was her message. Any thoughts?

As an addict and someone who struggles to remain clean, I watch these videos and it is a reminder of that life and the pain it brings. In Active addiction you don't/can't think of the "real" world you left behind because it brings pain. Your questions made her think about that stuff, and she probably hadn't for many years. My tears fell along with hers because I know that cycle too well. In recovery you can not become complacent or it will creep in and you will be right back in the life. Watching this video is a grim reminder of what it's like daily in the life of an addict. It reminds me of the pain and helps me to focus on the bad parts of addiction and not just the good feeling that your drug brings. So her message was felt and heard. It was hard to watch but she will help people. So sorry to the family. May she rest and know a pain free existence.
@gg_rider
@gg_rider 3 жыл бұрын
Recovery from addition SHOULD NOT involve a "struggle" ideally, though it will at first. Buddha said, "Attachment is the cause of all Suffering." AA instructions say "Let go and Let God." It's a metaphor for living .. both phrases point to the same concept. Attachment to what? You can learn what that means from your own psych attachments. (A person can *have* things and people in their life without "attachment" to those things and people, and we can want certain outcomes without "attachment" to those outcomes we want.) I believe that the "struggles" to remain clean -- from a soul-sucking addiction -- requires some equally strong soul-filling spirituality. Not just a mental Bible-reading and memorizing scripture trip, but an active spiritual life, ALL of the 12 Steps, from surrender to action and the introspection in the middle. Sorry if it sounds like I'm just evangelizing like everyone else. I think the Book is an excellent blueprint overview of what to do and what not to do (like reviewing your day but *without* drifting into remorse over imperfections and failures), in slowly growing a spiritual life. The difficulty and challenge to learning that process and Path *is* a *time-consuming* and *attention-consuming* hobby & lifestyle ... this means consciously pursuing a spiritual life, with gratitude, which leaves no free time for wallowing in addictive thinking, and no time or inclination for reminiscing or entertaining "romantic" thoughts about the high. But it's also like a book on carpentry isn't the same as building a house, and a book on sex isn't the same as experimenting with good sex, and a book on healthy relationships isn't like finding and maintaining a healthy relationship. It takes time and experience and some experimenting to find the right mix.

"Heroin is like a big warm hug." Keep that in mind. Not a warm outside hug, a warm inside hug. Some people can get a touch of that from a nice glass of wine after dinner, on a date, a mild glow. TBH, there's some forms of religion that are cold and judge-y, but there's forms of spiritual practice that can tap into the warm hugs that already exist inside us (I heard it's called "emmanuel" or God within).

My sons father died in a similar way, and it’s hard to know the world easily moved on without a second thought when my son and I couldn’t. Keep it up - stories like these help build compassion for addicts. She didn’t just wake up and decide to get addicted one day - she went through something traumatic and reached for the closest coping tool, not fully realizing what she was doing. I think if more people took the time to listen to peoples’ stories there would be so much more compassion, understanding, respect for human life.

@@teanytraciable A public health problem on this scale needs government type organisation and a network of well financed supports for addicts. Yes we all need and deserve love and respect but relying on the milk of human kindness to fix peoples' addiction problems is not working. Kelly specifically asks for a "get me in to rehab" service. That's what she wants. The moral of the story is we need to put our love and kindness into building societies and health systems that put care for people before profit. It's an ugly world out there. Prayers for all who still suffer in their addictions. Build more rehabilitation facilities instead of prisons!!! I am blessed with 11 years of sobriety but it took 21 years to get my 11. That was 2 homeless shelter rehabs that have revolving doors and 28 day programs. That is not enough time to get rid of the substance and learn how to fill the emptiness with good just like she says. The way you keep it is by giving what was so freely given to you. Get a sponsor make 30 meetings in 30 days and help those who come behind you. It's a whole lifestyle change that takes time to learn how to deal with feelings and emotions that are raw, the shame and guilt while facing loved ones you feel you let down. Keep coming back it works if you work it

God she is beautiful.....America should STOP ALL FOREIGN AID and help its own people first
@tobylangdale95
@tobylangdale95 3 жыл бұрын
I get where you are coming from, and I don't agree. Why? Because America doesn't have to stop foreign aid or anything else other than their insane and obscene drug policies, i.e. the war on drugs/prohibition/punishing users ect If America would simply follow the example of Portugal and other European countries that have comprehensively dealt with the very same substance/substance abuse and use problems , there wouldn't be a problem. Conflating one for the other, or that one causes the other is doing a disservice to yourself and others. We could throw in space exploration or anything else in general that just like foreign aid serves a positive purpose though may also have some problems. America just needs to start doing the right things that work, and stop doing the insane shit that obviously doesn't work. Just saying. Don't fall into the " us against them" trope, because if you do you'll soon find that it applies to everyone and everything outside of a two foot circle that surrounds you. Just saying.

If America wins the war on drugs or makes drugs legal then it stops the money train and they're not about to do that. If you look at the countries that have legalized drugs you will find out they don't have near the drug problem we do and nowhere near the death rate because of drugs that we have but if they Legalize It then they will lose a lot of money and they're not about to do that

I am deeply saddened by learning her loss after I read into it further. She was the first person since watching these videos that I wanted to reach out to and help. Please know that I do believe her video will make a difference in someone. It sure did me. I believe whole heartedly that if we were to take her advice and take the initiative to set up these treatments for addicts that it would be easier for them to accept help as I was an addict myself. All my love.

It is so hard seeing this video for me because she didn't want to have that kind of life. I was addicted to pain pills my doctor's kept telling me in pain management that I wasn't addicted I just had a opioid dependence. So for 10 plus years I believed them and took my pills no more but no less. I was a legal drug addict! The doctors were making me believe I needed these to survive but I really only needed myself to survive. I kicked the pills cold turkey and started running daily. Welllllll I found out that running gives you a better high than pills! I've lost weight, met some cool cats and I am more clear headed and healthy than I have been in my entire life. I only depend on ME! No pill, drug or man.... Guess what? I am happy and love life. You can do it to... Although I'll most likely need a knee replacement in years to come from the 🏃.
