Fan clutch from rockauto!? replacing faulty fan clutch step by step diy land cruiser 100

hello youtube,
for the last few weeks ive been hearing alot of fan noise from the land cruiser, even when it was stone cold. i suspect the fan clutch was acting up, so i decided to get a new one. cheapest toyota one i found was $160ish so i turned to rockauto for one for $100 shipped! great deal right? check out the video to see what happens.

Thanks for the video and the confidence that ensued. Just wanted to say,that I ended up being able to remove the fan and clutch out the bottom of the vehicle, without having to disconnect or remove anything other than that. It just takes a bit of observant manoeuvring. But definitely easier. I then decided to have a look at the clutch itself. Came apart easily,but the screws are easily stripped,so beware folks. I damaged one. The first one. Gave the inside of clutch a thorough clean with various chemicals to remove Al old silicone and residue. Refilled with 15k CST silicone diff oil $20, and good as new, and certainly better than it's ever been while I've owned my wagon. Damn site cheaper than a new clutch. I had almost the same problem on my LC100 and I was able to rebuild the fan clutch myself. You can refill the clutch with silicon fluid

As one who did this, i went OEM those nuts between the fan and motor are knuckle busters. Use abundant anti freeze lubricant. Requires a long shaft closed end ratchet wrench and be sure to jerk to loosen otherwise they strip. A good long screw driver to keep it from spinning helps.

They can be rebuit by separating both half's and adding oil back into it. Toyota sell fan clutch oil

@Chowcares, can't you fix the old fan clutch by adding more silicone? Silicone is relatively cheap. Not OEM but the silicone they use "Factory Team Silicone" which is relatively cheap. So you can now have 2 clutches that work.

But one thing is clear a bad fan clutch is one that does not allow you to spin your fan at all at startup.

Any updates on the new fan clutch? Is it still doing it's job? Some say put in OEM Toyota clutch and not after market parts. Just curious if the Aisin clutch you purchased through RockAuto is still doing good as I'm debating if I should go Toyota or order one too

Aisin is Toyota OEM. It’s the exact same. Aisin is owned by Toyota and they make the parts for them, only sometimes Toyota parts get labeled Toyota instead of Aisin just for branding

Is there an Electric Fan kit for the 100 series? Wouldn't swapping it out for an Electric one give you more power and better gas mileage?
