Chris LeDoux singer/ songwriter 'THIS COWBOY'S HAT'. A huge hit for Chris. His son Ned LeDoux sings it now. Chris LeDoux had a unique voice. No other sounded like him. Having said that, there's a country music singer/songwriter named J. Marc Bailey who sounds very much like Chris LeDoux. He's on this platform. When I heard him sing this song you featured, I fell in love with his voice, just as I was in love with Chris LeDoux's voice. J. Marc Bailey has rubbed shoulders with Blake Sheldon, Miranda Lambert, and Garth Brooks to name a few. Chris LeDoux, you are missed RIP. Mrs. LeDoux received a country music award in honor of Chris LeDoux. I'm not sure if he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, but he sure deserved to be.

If you are GenX or older and grew up in Wyoming, Utah, Idaho, Montana Chris was a staple. Narrow it down to 4H groups and NHSRA and Chris was absolutely king.

Chris LeDoux passed away too young. He had cancer of his pancreas. His voice was so unique, no other had his style. Having said that, there is a country music singer named J. Marc Bailey and he sounds a whole lot like Chris LeDoux. When I first heard J. Marc sing this song, I was in love with his voice, just as I was in love with Chris LeDoux's voice. I am now a huge fan of J. Marc Bailey. I strongly encourage you all to look up Mr. Bailey, he's a country music singer and songwriter, and he's on this platform. He rubbed shoulders with Blake Sheldon, Miranda Lambert, and Garth Brooks just to name a few. Chris LeDoux's son sings his father's song that Chris wrote 'This Cowboy's Hat'. Another huge hit for Chris. Chris RIP, you are missed. Mrs. LeDoux accepted a country music award in honor of Chris.

Additional comment. Chris was awesome live. And he was an awesome storyteller. Garth and others tried to touch on the same themes, but they couldn't match Chris for knowing what it really was.

Working with large domestic animals in a large facility is basically nomadic. If you don’t own you’re working for ranches that pay you & you’re always chasing a paycheck. A love life is riding for a fall….

This song always reminds me of the Tom Selleck movie “Monte Walsh”. Selleck plays a cowboy in the dying days of the lifestyle, the late 1800’s into the early 1900’s. He’s trying to hold on to the cowboy way of life because that’s all he’s known his entire life. In the meantime, he has a special relationship with a woman in town. Being a cowboy though, he only sees her a few times a year. He discovers the real cost of being a cowboy when he hears she’s ill and doesn’t make it to her before she passes away

I don't think I ever heard this song before. If I remember correctly, Chris was involved in rodeo which pretty much took up all of his time. However, I believe he married young, and he and his wife travelled the circuit together and camped out or stayed with friends along the way. Couldn't do that if you were a cowboy driving a herd from, say, Texas to Montana. Give a listen to Colter Wall singing "Bob Fudge," which is based on a true story.

Hi don! Would love to see you go more in depth in the texas scene. There are many sub genres as in nashville. Ray benson on the show you react to bands on is part of asleep at the wheel. Its a great band and he has dedicated his years of work to help the music scene in texas become what it has. House of blue lights and route 66 are the tip to the iceberg as far as what this western swing band has been doing for generations. Even tipping the hat to bob wills most of the way!

You know man the end is left open. Did he saddled and back track or did he ride on on follow his dream of freedom? This is the epitome of a Live Song. Another on is George Stait's I can Still Make Cheyenne. So much more emotion than the crap made today. But then again I can go from Mettalica to George Strait and from ACDC to Chris Ledoux and let's not talk about Robert Johnson. His songs you don't want to listen too on a desolate two lane road in the middle of the night at a four way stop. But the crap from Nashville now? I would rather go to Clarksdale and sell my Soul to have it vanish off the face of the earth.
