Solid playing! Two questions: - I see a lot of people picking up the thumb technique. How does one mute unused strings with this technique? I use fingerstyle right now and am working on floating thumb to mute. It looks like you're using your palm but I want to be sure. - Is that the stock humbucker that comes on Vaders, or is this a different one (and which one)?

A lot of the muting when playing in this way is happening with the fretting hand. Like, the vast majority is happening with the fretting hand. Accurately ‘thumbing’ provides some amount of muting itself as the thumb will come to rest on the adjacent string with each down-stroke.

@Hatsukyou Yah its tech death, mathy and mechanical, but maybe you just have to have a certain appreciation for time/rhythm changing grooves at 350bpm to get it ha, but Archspire certainly has "groove". It's all opinion apparently.

From what I remember, Amos doesn't use amps anymore but does use Darkglass Preamps and DI's straight into a the PA or mixing desk. This may have changed.

funkaforfan are you practicing with you bass plugged in to an amp or interface to a computer; or are you practicing ‘acoustically’? If unplugged, you will find yourself playing too hard. It’s always worth being plugged in if possible.

I find holding my fingers under the G string and using that as a pivot for my thumb rather than my hand floating. Just an option, but Whatever works best for you. Expect you thumb to get sore though;)
