Can’t beat a 6500 for distance fishing, best casting reels ever made.
@SpiralMoss5 ай бұрын
Beautiful reels had one until it was stolen in 2003 same year I stopped drinking that's how I remember utter devastated it being robbed, I seen the same Abu 6500 CT black cat a few years ago there was only a thousand made in the early 90's, in a shop in Galway Ireland on the shelf for 150 euros. It was probably there years or found somewhere out the back and put on the shelf. Thought to myself that'll be there in a few weeks I'll buy it, went back it was sold. It was immaculate, well a bit stiff as it was never used. But a service and clean the bearings and it's like having an Aston Martin DB5 ... No cheap bearings, the spool ran like a dream... Back in the day we'd clean the bearings in petrol and afterwards we'd get a desert spoon, top it up with baby oil. Heat it up under a flame wait until the bubbles stop. Put the bearings back in, look they hadn't the same oscillation TG rocket fuel as in it wouldn't hold in long with the spin. But the graceful hum off the reel as your lead went skywards was like a choir of angels singing..... different class of cast.. Us auld lads had no magnetic brakes, but the new centrifugal carbon brakes in the day. If they wore down we'd cut our temporary brakes out of a pen, that bit on top that had no ink as the ink runs out.... Bit of a rant, but I hope it's useful

True, Fathom 15's are really rock reels, I wouldn't use them anywhere where distance was important

I was way up the other end of Chesil on same day, at Eype for only 1&1/2 hours and got a strap eel and a pouting on rag from Abbotsbury angling shop.

Good watch mate 👍 if you are looking to go the route of abu might i suggest over the mag elite you have a look at the 6500 mag high speed very similar reel sadly not available in the florida orange but they run a bit faster and have a much higher retrieve ratio and with abu now if it isn't made in sweaden dont buy it

High Chris, I watched your vids at Aust and have fished it 14 times as it’s a local mark to me. I have only caught strap eels and green eels 🤔 probably 6 fish for 14 trips and lots of blanks ☹️ not a bite ☹️ my question is 🤔are sea fish ether there or not , and if not do sea fishermen just move venue, or am I just doing something wrong. Course fishing, 🤔. despite the venue and how poor it’s fishing I can usually catch something. But sea fishing despite swapping baits and rigs just doesn’t seem to make a difference? How long would you leave a bait , before changing it at Aust I am a beginner at beach fishing , but I have fished all my life and won a few course fishing matches including 4 60 + peg matches on canals and rivers. Am I just crap at sea fishing 😀 and have to learn more? Or. 🤔 are the fish just not in front of me and despite rigs and bait being good enough I will not catch? I am enjoying sea fishing as it’s new to me and has rekindled my interest in fishing I would appreciate your advice 👍
