Of course I did... Chris used his skills to break down my confidence from the inside out... but the time I got to switch roles, I was stuck in a stubborn place. Making it almost impossible to move forward.

If you were in the heat of the moment, with a hostage, ask for a car, the negotiator says you seem to want to live because getting away with a car means that you get to live.... and then you tell him you are lying..... sure.... you will have the wherewithall to blame the death of your hostage on him. Sure. Chris had him on the ropes in 10 seconds.

Breaking down the psychological element of this video is fascinating. The warfare starts at 0:53 - Chris takes control of the interview by using the words "I will give you the option" 0:57 - Interviewer subconsciously recognizes this and attempts to regain control via re-asking the question. 1:24 - Interviewers stress response kicks in and he attempts to release some of the built up tensions through his facial movements & Fidgeting. 1:43 - Interviewer recognizes he's nervous and in an effort to calm his nerves he takes the pressure off of himself via "downplaying" his skill set. 2:28 - After Chris's aggressive tonality, the interviewers fight or flight kicks up another gear. Notice the lip biting and nostril flaring. This is a normal response as his body is trying to get more air. AKA Bernoulli's principle. 2:53 - Interviewer is met with the realization that this is incredibly uncomfortable and his body forces a smile as a stress response to calm the anxiety & discomfort. By the time it gets round to the role reversal the interviewer is emotionally fatigued, which explains why he was so abrupt and didn't answer the questions the way we would have hoped. Bearing all of this in mind, I think the interviewer actually did a decent job. High pressure negotiation is INCREDIBLY stressful and it is VERY emotionally draining. The only way we can improve and get better at this, is by doing it more and more. Notice how calm and collect Mr Voss it?

I think Steven, would agree. You can see he feels like Chris "broke his brain" while he was talking to him. By the 2nd negotiation, he didn't have much left.

I noticed that these negotiations are similar to the shit I deal with at work with Karen's. I'm kind of appalled that some of the techniques he's using is what I have to use at my job to de-escalate a pissed off customer and keep them happy without giving them what they want.

I just read the book then I searched for videos about the implementation of the book. thing if it was real life - when he said "Doesnt sound like you want to live" (the door would have been rigged with c4.) and when voss said "you dont want to give me a chance, i dont think youre telling me the truth" - > Special Agent bosco would be firing his sniper rifle and swat team bravo would be flashbanging the room. :D the call wouldnt have ended how it did.

Podcast guy didn't react naturally when playing the robber. 1st off, nobody walks on the lot unless they want to buy, or in this case, a robber that wants to die in the bank isn't going to 1. Pick up the phone to talk. 2. Ask for assistance escaping the situation. The guy had hostages and was hopping on the phone to *negotiate*, not to count backwards from 60 with unrealistic expectations and time demands just to kill a hostage. Podcast guy's ego got bruised when he failed the negotiation bit so no matter what, just like Chris said, there wasn't going to be a deal. He went into it knowing he was going to get to zero from the jump. Ruined the bit for me.
