@@jonathanrandall4140 it's not 'the easy way out'. Depression is not easy, suicide is not easy. It's battling a war in your head every day, hoping you'll survive but not seeing a way how to... until that illness becomes too much to carry. I'm not going to say 'I hope you understand that' because the only way to understand depression is to experience that, and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy- but I do hope that you understand you don't know what they were going through, and thus can't judge them.

@@Ariel_thenotsolittlemermaid You make an excellent, reasoned argument, most of which I agree with. As a child of depressed, alcoholic, narcissistic parents, I can sympathise more with Chris Cornell and Chester Bennington's families. In my opinion, once you have a child, you live for them (in most part). I believe suicide, in these instances, IS the"easy way out". Much easier than repairing yourself and making amends to those you hurt. Thanks for your thoughtful reply.

@April 2520 Wow, you are just discovering him! Lucky you, you are in for a treat! Enjoy. I recommend Chris's acoustic, solo stuff. He toured on his own later in life and played his songs from Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog, Audioslave, and his own solo records. He also did a lot of great covers, like this one. A lot of depth to his lyrics, and a lot of emotion in his voice. Unfortunately the pain got the better of him.

Lyrics: Shed a tear 'cause I'm missing you I'm still alright to smile Girl, I think about you every day now Was a time when I wasn't sure You set my mind at ease There ain't no doubt you're in my heart now Said woman, take it slow, it will work itself out fine All we need is just a little patience Said sugar, make it slow, we will come together fine All we need is just a little patience I sit here on the stairs I'd rather be alone If I can't have you right now, I'll wait, dear Sometimes it gets so tense I can't speed up the time But you know, love, there's one more thing to consider Said woman, take it slow and things will be just fine If you and I just use a little patience Said sugar, take the time, 'cause the lights are shining bright You and I got what it takes to make it, oh I've been walking these streets at night Just trying to get it right Hard to see with so many around You know I don't like being stuck in a crowd And the streets don't change but maybe the names You know I ain't got time for the games 'Cause I need you Yeah, I need you Said, woman, take it slow, it will work itself out fine All we need is just a little patience Said sugar, make it slow, we will come together fine All we need is just a little patience

Look at all these photos of his family, and the writing on them really gets you in the gut. He did an amazing version of this song, and I can only imagine the pain his family went through picking out all these pics. I understand wanting to just stop hurting and leave this world, but I don’t have any children. I don’t know how one could just end their life and leave their children without a father as they grow up and achieve all the milestones that they wish their dad was there to see. And even wondering if they were the cause. Very traumatic.

As someone who tries to be scientifically minded, that quote strikes me as false, but in a positive way...I'll explain: It is a fact of life that everyone will one day die, and the memories of them will eventually fade as those who remember die and the sheer amount of people and information being generated makes it impossible to remember everyone. But it doesn't matter, the fact that they existed, that they were a link in the chain of humanity, that they had influence in their time, even if only on a small number of people or a small physical location is absolutely integral to the changes that spiral out in a butterfly effect that alters the state of all connected matter through time to create our reality. We remember the Einsteins, but without the parents, teachers, friends, colleagues, acquaintances, and both physical and intellectual roads paved before him by the forgotten, we wouldn't have him. The forgotten are still here in every person, every atom, every interaction, and every moment...I like to think of it as a kind of conservation of energy in regards to the evolution of humanity...
