It’s always a compromise on the issue of road furniture. To move all of it and then replace all of it is not feasible and risks disrupting public support for the race. It's Abrahamsen.
@swissbiggy5 ай бұрын
Have you seen the profiles of the Olympics and Worlds this year ?? With all respect for what Abrahamsen does this Tour, but these parcourses are not made for him... The Olympics will be won by a Alaphilippe, van der Poel kind of guy and the Worlds by a pure climber..... Abrahamsen does grab with both hands the free publicity he can get in stages where nobody else does even want to go in the breakaway, let's not pretend that he's all of the sudden become a world class rider... He spends energy where others (Not even the smallest participating teams) don't want to waste their breath.... I love it tbh.... But we all know that he will gain shit from it... The polka dot jersey will in the end be won by a pure climber, and Abrahamsen will not even be in the top five of that ranking... All the big mountains still have to come, and on a number of them the same amount of points can be won, that Abrahamsen did earn in twelve days. Neither (Although I do hope that he can prove me wrong) is he gonna win a stage..... Thus the only thing he does is grabbing points that nobody cares about anyway. And let me say again that I love it, we need more guys like him !! But bringing a 80 kilo guy (Abrahamsen) to the Olympics for Norway, while they have riders that are better suited for that kind of parcours.... 🤔 And since Norway can take only two guys to the Olympic road race (Waerenskjold and Johannessen probably) there is no room for Abrahamsen.... But we'll see..... Maybe that they will give him a selection for the Worlds, but that title is going to the pure climbers/puncheurs. With this and next season we will have two World Championships that are tailor made for the climbers. Certainly next year when we will have almost 6 thousand meter of elevation at the first World Championship ever in Africa. (This years edition is in Switzerland, environment Zürich where we used to have a great classic in the past. The Zürich Metzgete.. A classic that was always won by climbers or super, super strong puncheurs like Bettini, Di Luca etc etc etc. )

Team Visma crash-a-bike is doing an heroic job of keeping good team cohesion in spite of all the 'bad luck'. My pre-race predictions in terms of individual riders was way off but my assessment of the team collective is proving right- Team Visma works well collectively, UAE is slightly dysfunctional with too many chefs in the kitchen or too many chiefs, not enough Indians, whatever metaphor you want to use... Bora is good team for Roglic on paper but too thin, and Soudal is kind of hopeless, but I guess when you have balls the size of RE, who needs a team? At any rate there is enough strength in that UAE squad, and enough strength in TP that they can overcome a dysfunctional team dynamic. This year.

If Roglic was fine, he'd get close or in the peloton during this time, but it was seen he slowed down his team cause he couldn't keep the pace up. At around 7km to go the race just blew up and it is all good. There is no way for peloton to completely wait for 4th in the GC, I think even yellow jersey wouldn't be wait for in the same position.

In the middle of the race I saw him go down hard. Felt kind of bad, but it happens. Super week was the month of racing with two races a day and you could race all over Wisconsin. So I saw this guy the next day, at the start line, and he was all cut up and we were talking and I was saying wow dude you went down that's too bad because he had his bandages. Well, he crashes again. The third day he rolls up to me at the start line he's like hey what's going on and I just moved to the other side of the peloton because I didn't want to be next to him. Sure enough he crashed again and again. Four times he had crashes. I didn't crash much in my bike racing career because I was very good at not crashing. But some guys just can't stay off the ground. I watch primos lead the peloton around a corner and he just rode right off the course into that dirt patch where he went down couple days ago. Damn buddy keep it the rubber side down.

Haha, I have a similar story about a guy who comes to our training rides. He’s the only guy I know to crash while on a hill climb and if I ever find myself on his wheel, I’ll move out. Stay well away! Can’t tell if it’s his bike/tire setup, handling, or spatial awareness because he’s been cycling for years and is very fast rider just a complete liability.

@draconianTL. Pretty sure Lance crashed on a climb in the TDF.

@@LABoyko yeah everybody does crash at some point or another. And you just made me remember my friend Jeff Wyatt. He was a crashing machine. He was going to quit bike racing and then he won the state criterium championship in Utah. A lot of category 1's in that state.

Does the bike throw at the finish line actually get the wheel across quicker? When the pedaling stops, even for an instant, deceleration commences. Seems pedaling through the finish line provides the best chance to win.
@joebriggs84225 ай бұрын
Yes, with the right timing (that's critical) it gets the wheel across quicker.

I agree it could help Pogi if UAE would be a bit more savvy in their tactics. But I doubt that either the car or Pogi are able to think of anything other than the big balls tactics. Also, by now it is quite clear that Yates, Almeida and Ayuso are not a real threat to Jonas, they will loose minutes every time Jonas and Pogi go seriously on a climb. So they will only finish ahead of Jonas if he collapses. Visma are smart enough to understand that they do not have to panic when any of these guys attacks.

Hi Chris, This is the first time i have heard someone say Jonas has come into Tour fully rested (yes he had a crash but that also means he had lots of rest) Nobody is saying Pogi may be getting tired because he did the Giro. As far as i'm concerned winning the Giro/Tour is harder than coming back from his crash.

Chris, you should comment about Pocagar killing any option from Yates, Audi and Almeida to threaten the yellow jersey. The UAE loss any change to send those guys in front to force Visma to chase them while Pocagar is pulled by Visma.

Chris, given the drab pre-stage show on Peacock, were you invited to be part of the show or not? When you were part of the show in the past, it was far more informative and entertaining! Hell, your commentary as part of the live stage commentary would make a dramatic improvement. Keep up the good work with your KZbin Videos. Top notch content!

Hey Chris. Great video but I was hoping for more analysis over commentary, especially with Primoz crashing and the GC battle reshaped. Maybe an added feature to the future videos? Thanks

I'll be keen to see some other footage or stills, but based on a brief highlight video i watched earlier and now Chris' analysis, my take is that Demare was hard done by in being relegated. To me, at the point he and Wout were both launching, it looks like the barrier is out slightly further into the road than the preceding barriers. I'm not sure that Demare really came across as far as it might seem.
@wildly_heather5 ай бұрын
I thought it was blatantly obvious from the overhead shots. He did exactly what Jasper did when Jasper got relegated; Wout had plenty of room, and then he didn’t and had to stop pedaling as Demare cut him off.

The third significant crash over the last few days after the width of the peloton is narrowed by road furniture. Is this OK? Are the race officials unwilling to do something about this?

All the crashes take their toll on the riders and spoil the tdf by week three . It's been criminal in recent years how race officials don't make the riding safer

Really a bummer to see Primož crash again. It seems like seeing him riding bloodied with torn up kit is as common as not. Primož reacting late, IMHO, it goes to Chris’ comment in an earlier video about the need for situational awareness, looking past the rider immediately in front.

Roglic, sometimes has poor positioning, add this to his cycling experience riding in a professional bunch(6 years), I think are hi main reasons for crashing.

Great analysis as always Chris. Do you think Roglic is just unlucky, or is it his riding that is causing him all this crashing?
@brentrasmussen24405 ай бұрын
I agree the UAE tactics on the mountain stage were not the best. Tadej still could have salvaged things, once Jonas caught him Tadej should not have taken a pull until it was time to sprint for the stage. Time bonus, stage win, and mental victory all could have been his.

I have never seen a pro rider crash this often in my recollection...at some point you'd think he'd learn to position and handle his bike better if simply for self preservation!!
