@@dr.wolfstar1765 As you said, he is a reviewer, not a critic. I don't like him promoting better help, but I also don't agree with viewers telling someone how they should review media. You can just watch someone else. Yet, here you are. Hate watching because if there is one thing that is certainly pathetic in this scenario, it is you. Strange, though, since he does criticize parts of this movie. You know you can give valid criticism without tearing something down, right? Yeah, probably not, you probably think Men are kings and women are kitchen pets. God is dead, and we should all worship Trump like Jesus. **Spoiler warning, since I saw an advanced screening** There's a subtle detail about Tashi's daughter. Tashi says "our daughter" while talking to Patrick, but it is vague whether she is referring to Art or Patrick as the father! I noticed the girl had curly black hair, but it's Patrick who has that hair texture.
@DannyD-lr5yg
@DannyD-lr5yg 12 күн бұрын
True but Tashi’s dad is black so it’s reasonable to infer the daughter’s dark, coily hair probably comes from her, and that she relaxes or straightens and dyes her own hair. Like, fair point, BUT I don’t think the timeline of any liaison - or, at least, any known liaison - between Tashi and Patrick would line up with the daughter’s age. Iirc the daughter would’ve been already born by the time Atlanta happened. And while it’s possible the daughter was conceived during a tryst between the two that is neither shown nor hinted at, I think that’d be a lot of leaps for the audience to be expected to make. Just my two cents!

Why can’t people handle nuance? Movies don’t have to be binary just like life. It’s like in Trainspotting or in gangster movies. Yeah drugs and mafia bad but the lifestyle brings some joy to the participants otherwise they wouldn’t be tempted by it. Same thing with toxic relationships. There’s going to be some aspect that attracts character. It’s not endorsing it’s just depicting.

Agreed! Especially these days where a lot of relationships today are as toxic as the ones in this movie. That being said I disagree with Chris when he says "it's just a movie, it's not real". You also don't need to have all the characters being toxic in order to create drama in a romance movie. Since all 3 of these characters were unlikable I didn't have anyone to root for, nor did I care too much on the what the outcome will be.

Reznor said, “He started us down a path, saying, ‘What if it was very loud techno music through the whole film?’ ” (This is exactly what it turned out to be.)” “I wish I had his notes,” Ross said of Guadagnino. “His notes were so fucking funny on what each piece was meant to do.” “Oh, yeah,” Reznor said. “ ‘Unending homoerotic desire.’ It was all a variation on those three words.”

Just saw it and it's a bromance love triangle drama with depictions of tennis. I thought the angle of being the ball was fun like they placed a go pro in the ball while hit it but otherwise I couldn't understand points as they happened hahaha and I guess the point of the movie wasn't to see the matches like watching an ATP tourney. But it 100% captured the feeling I have as a tennis player while playing matches, the frustrations the subtle mind games that we as players put on ourselves not even about the person on the other side. Good mix of all would watch it once as I couldn't stand the toxicity of the 3 main characters. 😂

Regarding the actual concept of the movie, I had an idea with way better twist almost two decades ago. Wanted to write an entire script for it but life took a diff turn. It may still happen as I am influenced a lot by your content and how you were able to achieve your dream of making a feature film.

For the sake of entertainment toxicity in a relationship is just about necessity, unless the relationship isn't a main focal point. If johnny is discovering his super powers, and his spouse supports him, then its alright because the focus is about Johnny, exploring his powers, the tribulations involved in that. Though, another perspective could be, Johnny is discovering he has powers, and the focus is about how its affecting those around him, in which, his spouse isn't supportive, they start to become distant and eventually come out as a anti-superhero/anti-mutant.

"Wimbledon" with Kirsten Dunst and Paul Bettany, who actually has a tennis background, is also a good (not great) tennis movie.....check it out. Stuckmann complains somewhat of the soundtrack but I tell you what....I'm in with anything Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross (David Fincher stalwarts) touches regarding the score.

I think that there’s a pretty big difference between twilight’s romance and Challengers’ romance. Twilight’s romance is heavily romanticized and ignores the red flags while this movie makes it pretty clear that the relationship between all three of these characters is awful. At no point did I feel like the movie was trying to say that any of the relationships were good for the characters. Agree with some of your points on toxic romances in movies though. I think there’s a difference between watching a toxic relationship onscreen and finding the turmoil interesting and endorsing and encouraging one in real life. Also agree with your point about some romances aging poorly with the times because that is a thing with a lot of older romance movies.

Putting a toxic relationship in a movie is fine as long as it's not presented in a way that makes it seem as though this is how relationships should be. The problem is you get all these young impressionable teens thinking this is ok and healthy to be treated this way and that it's not even toxic at all.

Good review Stuckmann and Challengers was a BANGER!! I loved it! It has a constant energy from the editing to the great pulse racing score from Reznor & Ross (oh my in Dolby Cinema woohoo). Luca conveys themes of how people CONSUME things, especially American youth culture: be it Dunkin' egg sandwiches, churros (lots of food metaphors in this movie) or each others lives for selfish reasons like control & lust, or just wanting to push athletic/competitive limits from talented people that aren't giving their all. The final "match point" scene was awesome filmmaking. This will be in my Top 5 by years end just like "Tashi" screams COME ONNNN!!!
Challengers (2024) is absolutely DIABOLICAL
