In fairness, the early entries of the series were quite serious where Freddy and Jason were scary, legitimate threats and they got progressively more silly as the sequels went on [except for New Nightmare]. If you were a fan of the earlier entries, the tone of this film wasn't going to inspire you.

Yep they want every genre to have a masterpiece story. Horror movies of this type don't rely on a great story. They have one but nothing special. Horror movies need creative kills, intense moments, good scares, decent acting, good characters, and this has it all. Movies that need a great story for me are phycological movies, Horror movies that are more complex, dramas, thrillers. Those are story driven. Slashers like this, suoer hero movies, they just need to check the boxes for that genre amd have a halfway decent story that is coherent. They need to be fun. That is most important

@@firstlast9846 The thing is that Jason still basically IS a little boy (at least according to some of the sequels). He still feels he's fulfilling his mother's wishes. It's so interesting that they basically made this "child" fight against a demon of children. Such an interesting lore mash-up. I love how they made valid in-universe reasoning for their conflict.

8:06 Speaking of Pinhead, he was supposed to appear in the original ending of the movie. Jason and Freddy killed each other, then reunited in hell. They attempt to resume the fight, but then Pinhead had then restrained, asking them, "Gentlemen, what seems to be the problem?". It didn't happen because of the rights.

I'd just read an article about how they were trying to get Michael Myers and Pinhead to face off. The Halloween producers didn't want anything to do with it, though. Apparently, the plan was to utilize the Curse of Thorn storyline to pull it off. That sounds stupid to me. I think most would agree that the Curse of Thorn motivation, in Halloween 6, was dumb. It took away Michael's evil, his hatred for his family and turned him into a brainwashed zombie.

And for some reason my mom made it worse by telling me how great it was. Then she told me that there was no way I would’ve been allowed to see it even if I was with them because they were checking ID’s at the ticket booth and even at the door of the room where it was playing. And just hearing that build up this imagination in my head of how crazy the movie must really be! Fun Fact: The original ending for "Freddy vs. Jason" was going to have Freddy and Jason go to Hell and meet Pinhead, who would have said "What seems to be the problem, gentlemen?" Unfortunately, New Line Cinema could not get the rights to the character Pinhead from "Hellraiser," and so we got a pretty weak ending instead. Such a shame since this could've set up a new universe of horror movie monsters, potentially going so far as bringing back Michael Myers from "Halloween."

I would have loved a Freddy vs Jason vs Ash movie. Ash kicking Jason and Freddy's butts would have been so much fun! And the idea of Ash starting to work at a newly opened S-Mart in Crystal Lake is hilarious to me.

Rewatching it recently there are bits to enjoy and bits I really didn’t. The Nightmare series as a whole is really consistent and his films’ qualities are higher than Jason’s which I look forward to Chris reviewing it! In terms of Freddy vs Jason, the clear early 2000s editing took me away a lot of times but the sequences are fun and they made an effort for it to fit into the lore of the Nightmare timeline. It’s in many ways a Nightmare sequel. Although I prefer a few previous Nightmare sequels (3, 4 and 5). It’s not genuinely good it’s bloody entertaining.

@@IdiocyShowagreed. 4 is alright but gets into the crazy campy and cheesy territory, 5 took that and ran with it, and 6 was horrible

The director Ronny Yu was very fortunate to direct Bride of Chucky and Freddy vs Jason. He did a great job with both.

I would have preferred a Pinhead vs Freddy matchup, personally. They're both former humans who've become extra dimensional beings with reality altering abilities, but the clash of their personalities would have been compelling: Pinhead the serious, no nonsense straight man and Freddy the comic foil. Supposedly, FvJ was supposed to end with them both in Hell, where Pinhead appears and asks, "Gentlemen, what seems to be the problem?" Unfortunately, the producers couldn't secure the rights to use the character. If that had happened, though, it would have guaranteed a sequel.

This movie was absolutely my gateway horror movie when I was in college. I had seen scary movies but they weren’t something I sought out and enjoyed. This movie changed that. It was so much fun.

I heard that legendary special effects artist Rob Bottin was originally slated to direct this film in what would have been his directorial debut but the studio decided to give it to Ronnie Yu

I love the venn diagram of these two characters. -Freddy burned, Jason drowned -Freddy was a predator, Jason was a victim -Small blades against one large blade -Haunting dreams vs haunting reality -Both have a “face” full of holes -Both have a right to seek revenge on people -Freddy is an adult, Jason is basically a child And then the ultimate irony of Freddy being burned by parents and then getting his ass beat by a victimized child who was always deformed.

Ironically, I got a Freddy vs Jason tee shirt for Christmas about 10 years ago, and I decided to wear it for the first time today for Friday the 13th.. And then this review popped up at the top of my feed. 😂 I really need to rewatch this flick.

I remember as kids we wanted all the versus movies! We day dreamed about it all the time and theory crafted. One I thought was decent was the ring vs the grudge...that's not what it's called but it's on Shudder. And it was crazy how they actually managed to get them to fight
