The human and the predator teaming up is actually kind of explained. When the scientist explains that the predators hunted the xenos as a rite of passage from youth to adulthood aka becoming a fullblooded hunter, it explains in my opinion why lex, the woman, later teams up with the pred. She killed a xenomorph, on her own and with a ritualistic yautja (predator) weapon. So in the eyes of the predator she made that transition from prey to hunter, and by that became a fellow huntbrother. And in the Comics there is also a human that lives with them, hunts and so on. So the idea oft those two teaming up made a lot of sense to me. They shouldve followed up in that, instead oft just leaving her on earth (which was bogus because rule number one dictates to them never to leave any trace or evidence of their existence behind!!) ,and placing a hint of the predalien in the closing scene. That was the one mistake this movie made, at least in my own humble opinion.

I agree And i always felt it was a missed opportunity to tie the movie to cannon by simply having the girl leave with the predators, that insures why theres no evidence of the events happening by the alien movie… All because they wanted to have a hybrid cliff hanger. The most logically ending was sacrificed by exactly what made the movie and its 2nd movie lack luster… A cheap ending and execution of a hybrid. Had the girl left with the predators. That ending would have been more impactful and left possibilities to think about for years. The same way the alien skull left implications in the 2nd predator. And there was never a 3rd movie.

I thought the scene where the predator teams up with the girl was pretty sweet. She did just kill an alien in his presence, provided him with his shoulder blaster, and his two other predator homies were dead. I can assume the predator felt he could use all the help he could get at that point. Great review and excellent movie!

So, he probably was thinking there's more to her than he thought. So, he was willing to fight with her, to try and kill the Alien queen later. Idk, I had fun rewatching this movie.

Predator has a very high honour code. It's possible that it could team up but at arms length. It recognises mercy and such like, it would never attack someone that was unarmed or vulnerable because it's not good sport.

well in the comics humans and predators DID team up, but most of the time the predator was an outcast and he just teamed up with 1 guy, who is usually your token war veteran. And if you manage to survive a predator hunt you MAY get invited to join a predator tribe.
@ThreadBomb
@ThreadBomb 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the argument that "This wouldn't happen" doesn't make sense. Predators know humans are smart and can fight. Multiple xenos are hunting for them, so it would be stupid to NOT team up.

Yeah, the human getting "adopted" by the Predator was one of the few things that seemed on-canon. I mean, being so badass that she didn't just kill a xenomorph but then stripped it and turned it into weaponry? That's exactly the sort of thing to make a Predator go "Yeah, that human's a bro."

I say that this movie should have been made as a rated-R movie. I think it would have been better (at least more interesting) and more memorable. When both Alien and Predator are works that were built around that R rating, it makes no sense that the combination of the two would be a PG-13 film. With this PG-13 film, they used kid gloves and some of the aspects and feel of these works people like have been lost when you try to turn a movie into something it is not. Instead of trying to get more people in the theaters to see it, they should have been more focused on staying true to the material.

6:25 He was trying to go for the fact that the lightning was "waking" up the queen alien.. Just so people know. 7:15 Also, this has happened before.. this was based off a comic where a female kills an Alien and the Predator is so shocked by her that he believes that she is a good warrior, because Predators are very honourable and to kill her straight after that would've been awful. In the comic she actually started to live with the predators, a very hard life for her.

HappiestSadGuy I honestly don't get this complaint. Older Horror films in general (before the 90s made everything looks slick) were dark like this. It feels so much more real when it comes to night shots vs the whole modern slick and shiny way of shooting night shots. I just rewatched it right after AVP 1, and it feels way more faithful to the predator universe. The action is interesting, the Predator is smart, honorable, driven and bad-ass. The humans aren't as interesting, but you get a wide range of characters (not all of them are bad). I think it's lightyears ahead of AVP visually, and feels serious and not campy like it's predecessor. But watch it in a dark room.
@Bampiss
@Bampiss 7 жыл бұрын
ravissary79 the plot is foolish. And the fact that it takes place at open space & not isolated doesn't even help contain the fear either. Yeah i know it try to be different unlike the others but it failed doing that. Imo if they want to make it out at open space just take one of the great zombie movies concept like "dawn of the dead"/"28 days later" . Make that species already a dominant one on earth & people got extinct. Think that will be a very good concept.
@ravissary79
@ravissary79 7 жыл бұрын
The Citizens what do you mean open space? It's on earth, and the Predator was tasked with getting rid of the alien outbreak, cover up their existence and get revenge for his fallen comrades. We actually see a predator work solo again, use traps, hunt, cover up evidence, and fight in a no-holds-barred way instead of just stalking and taking game (he has a different mission). The predalien is a much scarier design than the alien newborn, and the predator has a more classic and realistic look than AVP.
@chrisjimenez2192
@chrisjimenez2192 7 жыл бұрын
ravissary79 "Open space" doesn't mean literally in space. It just means it's in a location (any location) that has a lot of area to move around (a town on Earth, in the case of AVP), unlike a space ship that's confided, closed, and claustrophobic place where you pretty much have no where to run
@adampeel6161

AVPR would have been better if it didn't exist. It was a fan-fiction disaster of a movie and just disgusting. The best scene in it by far was the girl getting her clothes off because the action was hard to see, the predalien was ridiculous and the whole impregnating already pregnant women with predaliens was distasteful and just horrific for horrific's sake. One of the worst movies ever made that was meant to be good.

Yeah, having two out of 3 preds killed by an alien right off the bat was pretty lame, though since I'm a bigger alien fan, I'd have been fine with it there had been five predators to start with, and the three that remained put up a good fight throughout the rest of the movie, but died one by one due to sheer numbers or sneak attacks, right up until the climax with the Scar predator and the queen. There should also have been a more memorable death for the Grid. Every time I watched that movie I was thinking "You built up this super-awesome alien warrior who killed two predators in one go, gave it its own distinct, battle-scarred appearance, and you just let it die with the rest of the horde in a lame explosion? You didn't even focus on him when they exploded! He's barely even in frame!" They should have included him in the final fight - maybe have the predator go mano-a-mano with him while the queen tears the old village apart looking for Alexa.

One thing that annoyed me somewhat about this movie was the facehugger impregnation/gestation/chest-bursting was so quick in this film (because they were trapped I suppose). Part of the appeal of the process in previous films was that impregnated people would wake up seemingly fine for days (even without knowing what happened) until things went surprisingly south for them later on.
@RitsychServare

yes, that's why some scenes were a let down. That scene in particular when it first burst out of that woman and it's like the gestation process lasted for only a few hours? Doesn't it take usually much longer? And did u expect that the alien that's been inside that one predator in the end would've bursted out much sooner? It was killed or stabbed by the xenomorph queen so wouldn't that have killed the offspring inside? 🤨

This was one of the first monster movies I watched when I was younger, and even though it kind of terrified me I just loved the fact the this badass predator teamed up with the human protagonist and become one of the "good guys" so to speak. I honestly preferred on how they looked in Alien Covenant, they looked PHENOMENAL and truly horrifyingly fast and scary in that movie that was beautifully brought to life with the CHI that really brought their lightning fast savage nature to life. They looked great on AVP but they were so fantastically brought to life with the phenomenal CGI in Alien: Covenant.

Sure. I haven't read them in like 10 years nor have I seen AVP since it came out and I remembered. I just think it's an oversight that lead to him misidentifying something as out of place when in reality it was not. I don't feel like her character had the same qualities as the female lead back then, but when all your homeboys get killed and she's all that's left you might as well team up.

7:30 Basic Predator lore - they live to hunt. The finding of a worthy adversary. Assuming from the origin flashback exposition, they found xenomorphs and saw how challenging/worthy they can be, subsequently using humans as merely a carrier for their foe (how that correlates in other canon idk, humans are fun to kill when they fight back I guess?) When that woman showed that she could kill one herself - apparently disregarding what an accident it was - the predator sought to acknowledge that strength and mark her, it's only goal now to destroy the queen and ensure their victory without loss of honour. I think She would've been yet another skull of a worthy adversary by the end, had it not died. The mark merely saving her from that. This movies a lot of fun when you're 12, and almost hard to appreciate when you're in your twenties. At least you can see what's happening 90% of the time. *fuck requiem*

I really like AVP and I didn't have a problem with the build up. I don't expect every moment to be heavy or clutching because I want to be ready for when all the awesome fighting happens. I expect some story if they expect me to fully buy the predators being the "gods" and aliens being associated (despite ripley's journey). And I actually never paid attention to the dates, that was my oversight. But correct me if I'm wrong... I always immediately assumed the electricity meant she was being "revived". They were seen as gods so they must have some pretty neat primitive looking advanced tech to make this all happen. I mean... some people are still puzzled over the baghdad battery (and other things, and Im sure the answer isn't always (if it is at all) time travelers or aliens). I'm not sure how the predator teaming up with the lady isn't a good idea. He's a warrior, the last of his kind who was sent on this mission and obviously, he can't win this on his own. And after seeing her take out a xenomorph, he was impressed... Not to mention, she made a point that she didn't wanna be ditched. Predator history we know from Predator 1 & 2 show they respect effort, skill and honor. The predator just wants to win this "coming of age thing" (which was my interpretation of this) and move on (of course personally the whole take off the mask thing was stupid on his part but hay, can't be perfect). It was smart to keep her around (good for a meat shield). The whole "not catching up to someone" is a cliche by now used by... a lot of people, its not just added to movies involving big monsters (it even happens in the matrix movies, one in particular... can't figure out why everyone runs so slow and uniform) And can everyone stop hating on the Godzilla movie its not perfect but I don't get why people hate it so much. I get to watch interesting dino violence and character involvement without an overabundance of both AND I get to see the guy from Leon the Professional in a movie again.

In the first AVP comic series back in the early 90's the heroine of the story does team up with a predator to fight the aliens and it works but in the confines of a movie it does come across as a bit silly. i wouldn't hate the movie for being set in the year 2004. wayland yutani is a shady corporation. everything they said in alien/s/³ has been a lie. that's the most canon thing they have! the movie taking place in 2004 wouldn't discredit the sequels, but insert the idea of how the corporation decided to search for the alien in the first place. If bishop is the original owner of the corporation, why wouldn't it be use as the model for some androids in the future? is there any law against it? he was the founder, maybe by the time aliens take place the corporation thought it would be marketable to use the likes of him. also... why aren't you addressing the fact that the entire first act of AVP was later ripped of by Prometheus? I don't want to compare a lesser director which i hate with one i like, but for once, Paul SH*t awful Anderson, was first to it. I mean: A team of the best in the world scientist hired to go on a mission to a remote location to find an ancient Pyramid tying the connection between earth and extraterrestrial life. An ancient race of warrior aliens hosting/experimenting/playing/creating a second 2 different alien species. The oldest almost dead wayland ceo around getting killed by the humanoid alien? things go south and 2 aliens end up facing each other while the last woman standing manages to run out for her life.. in a straight line:D... she survives, but is not shown returning home,... end shot showing a kinda xenomorph looking alien bursting out of the dead alien? questions like the origin of life or our place in the universe thrown at us but never truly addressed?...

I don't like this movie much, but I'm going to defend it also (like Resurrection), well, just in explaining the parts you seemed to be confused about. This movie takes place in 2004, but it can still connect to the other movies easily. In this universe the public doesn't know what happened in this movie: it all take place in a secluded area. No one knows about it except Weyland-Yutani, which would line up well with Alien and even Aliens. This can also excuse the events in AVP2 as well since that whole town basically died. Again, I don't like these movies much, but it's not like they didn't make sense. It was everything else that sucked about them. Also I thought it was heavily implied that the Weyland in this movie was related to the Weyland in Alien 3? This wouldn't be the first movie series I saw that used the same actor to play multiple characters in the same family (but separated through time). I don't know how this could confuse anyone, I mean look at Back to the Future 2! According to Hollywood that's how genetics work. Yes, it's distracting, but easy to forgive/overlook. The electricity around the queen? She was being shocked/revitalized from cryosleep. I mean, that's the first thing that came to my mind.
@pandaath

Dude this shit crossover is still not canon. Ridley Scott retconned it when he made Prometheus. AvP is being ignored by both Alien and Predator franchises. They aren't connected. No, I don't give a fuck about comic books. Please don't mention them to me.

Clearly they have NO idea what the Alien actually is because it's not until Ripley shows up 57 friggin' years later and tells them, that they actually send some colonists (who have been living there 20 years btw) to investigate. If they knew what the Alien was and it was THAT important to them, why wait 57 years for Ripley to show up (who was assumed deceased btw) to tell them something they already knew?? Maybe its because they are still unsure and do not want to waste the money sending a team out there. There a literally dozens of reasons why they wait for a surviving crew member of the incident to come back, plus they still had no idea where the ship was from the first Alien movie. It is not until later than gained the coordinates and send a probe out to investigate. They the the Xeno is out there they just do not know where an exact location is, they just use the spacers as possible probes. No the theory works you just think to small.

I loved the location of Antarctica, until it quickly becomes obvious that the cold wasn’t a backseat antagonist. Take _30 Days of Night_ for example, one of my favourite vampire movies of all time. A large part of what sells the terror of that story is that the characters are not only fighting off a hoard of vampires, but they also have to contend with the extreme cold. Even if the vampires aren’t trying to kill you this very moment, the cold *always* is and it’s palpable. Same goes for _The Thing_ because the people don’t just bolt out of the building with the fucking monster in it. The creature might kill them or it might not. But the cold absolutely doesn’t give a shit. Hell, even the monster respects it. If you’re in Antarctica and the cold isn’t a passive antagonist in the story, what’s the point?

I read part of one of the first scripts long before AvP was released. I believe it was even before Alien Resurrection was released. It was amazing. It took place after Alien 3, dealt with the Colonial Marines, and it was the Predator hunting the Marines at first on a planet the humans were starting to colonize. Why couldn't they have done that one? It would have made sense timeline wise, and would have been an amazing film. Or at least could have been.

Even in the comics humans do sometimes work with Predators. In Three World War the main character actually lived in a Predator tribe for years after doing basically what happened in AvP. She met a Predator at just the right time, when it was faced with an uncontrolled Xenomorph hive with no backup, saved it from being killed, then helped it destroy the hive. That's canonically a legitimate way to be recognized as an equal by the Predators, they value honor and ability more than what species you are. It's just really rare for a human to both live up to those standards and be in a position to prove themselves without becoming prey. I mean, in Three World War the Predators do also call a temporary truce with Earth as they work together to fight the rogue Killer tribes, but that's not quite on the scale of AvP.

one of the things I admire about the Predator is that they won’t harm anyone who posed a threat and they would admire people who can defeat them in single combat

Chris, did you consider that in Aliens The Corp wasn't telling the truth when questioning Ripley? Why would they admit anything? It's not in interest of any corporation. Second thing Bothering me about your reviews. LT Ripley. Maybe She wasn't a LT in real world but placed in a ship full of marines, chain of command or any authority from her part would have to come from somewhere, in a mind of corpowhores. Or She was simply reinstated and bumped to LT.

+Artur W, Yes there's no reason this suit would have all the facts, or would tell them to Ripley if she did. It's not a continuity glitch at all.

Artur W so true! In the first Alien movie, the android Ash calls the alien a "perfect organism"...clearly Weyland Yutani corporation secretly knows about xenomorphs and that's why the crew of the Nostromo was forced to investigate...the events in AVP are a good explanation as to its first encounter with the alien species.

I accept your explanation of the time line continuity, but could they really be part of the same world? Waht about Mr.Wayland from AVP and the Mr.Wayland from Prometheus? I haven't seen these movies in a while but aren't they both referred to as the "founders" of Wayland corp in their respective movies? Regardless, both AVP's sucked and swallowed homeless dick cheese. Don't get me wrong, when I first heard about AVP I had a hard on, even was in denial after watching AVP the first time, but after some time your brain stops jacking off to the AVP idea and you see it for what it is. an ok action movie. But one worthy of the name "Alien VS. Predetor"? FUCK NO!

The Weyland from prometheus is a decendent. They explain that in the movie. Also I'm agree that Ash knew what they're looking in the first alien.

A lieutenant is not just a military rank, she was the lieutenant of her original ship from Alien. Lieutenant just means second mate, as in second in command. Which she was as a science officer, if you remember she didn't want to let her crew back in because of possible contamination. She had that authority as a lieutenant.

All Struckmans Negatives are just incorrect If he even watched the movie.. -Predators helped them build the Pyramide thus Electricity, which could be generated by static electricity. -They Nuked the Pyramid and It's an old whaling station from 1904, no one would care It was gone. More relevant in that case is that Weyland satellite showed the heat image and should be recorded for the future. It's more plausible Weyland lied in the future clip

Good thing is that they can do this movie again and do it right. Since Predator 2 did connect the two universes they can make a good AVP movie. I’m hoping they reboot it, make it rated R and really nail it with characters and the screenplay

Dude, not even gonna argue, just go check out his analyzed reviews of films that he loves like Signs, Drive, Only God Forgives, and others. I'd personally recommend his video "The Problem With Horror Movies Today", I think he has a great insight into the different methods of horror filmmaking. And I should also mention, just because a film is a super hero movie or that it features lots of action, doesn't mean it loses all artistic credibility. Art is subjective.

I still love AVP's concept (the alliance in particular) and the unrated edition does atone for the lack of substance and violence for several scenes. The practical effects are especially astounding.

that was my thought too. It would be Lex's word against anyone she would ever tell, and since the temple was destroyed, the predators would have no reason to go back to Antarctica. Hence, no human would find out about Xenomorphs until over 100 years later by Ripley and the crew.

Perfect review of the film. One part I loved was the way the movie showed the power of the alien acid blood. Like when the predator uses the net weapon on the human soldier, cutting him in half, and then the same weapon on the alien, only just piercing its skin.

I honestly can see a human and a Predator working together. As she had just killed a xeno, she earned his respect. Given the situation they were in, they were outnumbered alone in this maze of a pyramid. She was the last surviving human, he was the last surviving Predator. I think they both knew if they wanted to make it out they would have to work together.
