Two different women. One Meri’s age that Christine didn’t like. In her interview she does not say she told Kody about her dislike. That was an internal monologue. When she heard they were not going to marry then Kody was back as an option. Kody is just a liar. The other girl was after some marriages. She was under age and they were waiting for her to turn 18. The girl got cold feet and backed out.

You were correct in your edited opinion. I’m fairly convinced the girl Kody was originally engaged to broke it off, not Kody ( they were waiting for her to turn 18 btw. She was only 17 when they were courting🤮 He was 24?25?) They are fairly inconsistent in their story of who broke it off😉 I don’t think Christine told Kody she wouldn’t marry him if he married this other girl; I think she just said it to herself. Christine has told this story before...Way back in the day, when Christine first found herself interested in Kody, Christine found out about this young girl, a Minor, (was Meri scouting for kody? The girl was Too young to be a real friend of Meri's) that kody was courting. Christine was disgusted that kody was courting such a young girl. Christine said the girl was also drop dead pretty, and there was no way she could ever compete with her. Christine stopped talking to both Meri and Kody for a year. Then, one day, she gets a call from Meri saying that relationship was over, so Christine started hanging out with them again. I believe your reconsideration was accurate. I think kody ran into the same girl, nothing happened, and kody made the story up. He embellished running into her later and Lied about it. She Never wanted to marry him, even in the first place. Christine has Always stuck with her story that her entire life, she Always Knew that she wanted to be the third and Final wife. She wouldnt have married kody if there wasnt an understanding that there was never suppose to be a fourth wife

Yes, this last bit. I haven't been a constant fan through the years but have watched on and off, simply because I found the arrangement fascinating. Also, I was intrigued by Christine. When explaining the wives dynamic Christine always said, even when growing up, before meeting Kody, that she didn't want to be first or even second wife, she thought third was ideal. First & second could sort of duke it out, create the dynamic and then she could come in as third, once everything was established. I do believe she also did comment that she expected to be the last wife. In one of the earlier seasons there is a discussion with the (3) wives (possibly Kody too - can't remember) where they all say they thought there would only be the 3 of them/just before or at introduction of Robyn.

The story works for me. One, neither Christine or Kody are reliable storytellers. If it doesn't come from Janelle, I take the retelling with a grain of salt. Christine isn't random in Kodys mind. He's told us: She's royalty. Kody didn't enter these marriages for love. This was a status thing. The wife count alone says prestige. Christine's "pedigree" was enticing. Remember, they didn't court. Even she has said he grew to love her. Doesn't mean he was ever in love. Nor did anyone say he had to be. That's a monogamous standard we can't apply in this situation. For that reason, I don't believe Christine is any more suited to it than Sobyn. That's why Sobyn demanded the covenant. Kody was out of love with at least one of his wives and she didn't want his "duty" protocol, that she either heard him speak of OR she witnessed it, first hand. I wish we could get the true timeline for the ring melting because IMHO, it was the state of Meri's marriage that she feared.

Maybe, and my theory is, that he feels like he sacrificed, not to marry her because he loved her, but in order to marry her as she was of "noble stock" ("royalty" within AUB). And if Kody didn't really love Christine, but wanted to marry her in order to "marry up", maybe that's why it feels so painful for him to have "lost out" on marrying someone else? And hence the vitriol towards her... Yes, it's a long time ago, but Cody does seem a like a person who knows how to hold a grudge.

In the book they go into the story. The girl was young and thin (their description). He was slready martied to Meri and they were camp cunselors. Christine hated her lol. They were engaged and a week before the wedding it was called off (I think she called it off). Christine was glad they broke up and then he married Janelle, then her. She always wanted to be a third wife. I think she contacted them later to be a wife when the show started but at that point he was already balls deep In Robin 😂.

I like this episode. It could be a series called, Catch That Lie, or some other fun title. There's definitely no shortage of material. When it first aired, I saw and heard the tell-tale signs of psychopathy during the very first show. After a few shows it was clear to me that Robyn was "a greedy deviant" who would break them up, and all the rest were varying levels of liars with the purpose to normalize their cult. I couldn't watch it. Then, during their therapy episodes I tuned in to see if they'd get help... but nope, Kody was strongly against therapy. I stopped watching again. I only picked back up on S18 after discovering that other viewers were figuring out the lying, scheming machinations that are the Brown/AUB. As someone recently said, "it's interesting to go back and identify the trainwreck in hindsight, kind of like rewatching the movie, Sixth Sense, to find out where the male character is first revealed as being dead." In this case it's to figure out what lies were first told, and who engaged in them, which would be ALL of them engaging without so much as a bat of the eye. These are trained PROFESSIONAL liars via AUB.

My two cents: Christine is polygamy royalty. Marrying her was a big "win" for him in their circle so if she was going to completely shut down marrying him, because of another woman, i can see him calling off the wedding. Maybe Christine misspoke and accidentally said "Kody broke it off" or maybe when Christine came back into Kody's life, to save face, Kody lied to Christine and said he broke it off because he wanted to marry her so that's what Christine believed until she read their book? Let's also keep in mind that the courtship lasted "so long" because this girl was 16-17 when she started dating Kody and Kody was a 23-24 year old man who had to wait for this child to turn 18 before he could marry her, gross. This seems to make sense, Christine’s dad was some higher up in the Polygamy world. Kody even said he wanted to marry Christine because of the status. Possibly Christine felt like she had the power to control him for that reason. In this interview Christine said “I won’t marry you if you marry her” in the past she said she never said that I don’t think Christine is covering for Kody, I think she’s hiding the fact that she was controlling Kody for a while as well. Which could be why Robyn and Christine never got along. They had a power struggle because Kody fell in real love with Robyn. Eventually Kody stopped listening to Christine and listened to only Robyn. As more things come out I’m starting to suspect that Christine isn’t as innocent as we think….

Christine is right if Meri was telling the truth. That her friend was 17, they were waiting till she was 18 to marry and that the Girl called it Off, not Kody. That’s where Christine misspoke. The girl left. That’s why she doesn’t remember her wanting to marry him. Life went on and Kody chose to marry Christine and then according to him this other lady made contact again but he couldn’t marry her now bc he had already married Christine. But it’s not Christine’s fault for being honest about her feelings Before he married her. She did the right thing and Kody wasn’t able to lock this woman down the first time when he wasn’t married to Christine absolves her and seems to indicate that something else was the problem. And u can’t ever trust anything Kody says. Maybe this girl did make contact years later but who knows if she genuinely asked for a second chance with Kody. We only have his word for that. But we have Meri and Christine’s versions for the previous parts. And they are more similar.

I'm not sure Christine put an end to it. It kinda sounds like Christine's inside voice said well if he marries her, then I'll scratch him off my list of potential husband's. Christine and Kody didn't get married for more years.

Same girl. Kody is lying. Christine was referring to the straight up lie, but not the obfuscation. It’s in their book, it seems, and has been mentioned in interviews. I want to say even in the show, but I may be wrong there, but my memory is of Christine discussing it. Before Janelle, Kody and Meri were courting a girl both Meri and Christine knew, who was 17. This, her age, gave Christine the ick, and she lost interest in Kody as a result. Christine focused on college, but heard the GIRL called off the whole thing a week before the wedding. (Note-they did wait until the girl turned 18 as far as when the wedding would have been. I don’t know if they waited until the girl was 18 to “officially” court her; my impression is that it was a bit on the DL at first, and that also icked her out. Until the knife in the kidneys BS, it wasn’t mentioned Christine disliked the girl, only that Kody and Meri courting a girl in HS turned her off of THEM for a time. But both can be true.) It may seem weird that, given Christine’s family and their position in the AUB; however, officially, the AUB discourages marrying minors, forced marriage, “giving” wives as rewards, and the like. Further, her dad seems to have held to the official policy, encouraged Christine to go to college, poo-poo’ed the doomsday prepares, and seemingly the polygamy’s rule of 3 wives for celestial rewards-he only married 2 women, and when Annie left he didn’t remarry. At least, that is what it looks like publicly and nothing I’ve seen contradicts that information. At no time is it ever mentioned that the girl changed her mind and tried to get back in the family. My memory is that at least one thing I read/heard was the girl married someone else before Christine married Kody-but I don’t have the source and it is possible I am misremembering that. So, in her direct reaction to his BS, she didn’t call him on saying he dumped the girl initially on her behalf, but was baffled by his claim the woman wanted to marry him later after he married Christine. This story IS in Christine’s part of the book. I’ve put off reading the book, I have it queued up on my kindle to read when I finish “Fire and Blood,” but I’ve read excerpts here and there. Not sure this makes it LESS confusing.

Ah, come on Janelle. You wouldn't have decked him. Of ALL the wives, you would be the least likely to deck Kody. The way I understood it, Christine wanted to marry Kody. He married Janelle instead. Then, later, she again hoped he would marry her, but he and Meri began to court an underage girl that they both "fell in love with". Christine was devastated and gave up on Kody. The girl turned 18, the wedding was set, and one week before, she cancelled. Christine was over the moon! By this time, Janelle was very pregnant with Logan, and Kody didn't want to lose his money making wife and needed someone to be the child rearing wife, so he finally decided to was going to have to settle for that pesky Christine after all. Besides, she was AUB royalty, so what the heck. He never wanted to marry her, but he was in a tough spot. I'm sure with their bad blood, Janelle in NO way wanted Meri to rear her child. Now, as far as the knife in the kidney, that is some revisionist history that Kody and Robyn are very prone to when they know that they have said or done something really horrible. I'm sure Kody brought this woman up as a way to justify his "sacrifices" he made to love her comment. But I think what he really meant was "I had to force myself to pretend to love you and father kids with you for nearly thirty years, and I was totally disgusted by you the entire time." I think Christine is genuinely confused, because she isn't sure if this woman really wanted back into the family and she didn't know about it, or if Kody is simply lying to justify his cruel remarks to her. She really does seem confused as to what he's even talking about.

There were two girls. One wasn’t even 18 ( engagement girl) One he only courted, one he was engaged to. He dumped the one because it didn’t work, he dumped the other because of Christine… the AUB is a pretty weird sect but Christine’s family was considered AUB royalty. He wanted Christine to rise higher in the ranks of the church.

And this is where hypergamy comes in right. It's not just the women looking to raise their standing in society. In the past it may have been a father making arrangements for their daughters to marry up. But Kody projects a lot. He blames the OG 3 for what he is doing. Marrying Christine, AUB Royalty is improving Kodys standing in the church not the other way around. He is such a dolt.

How I read it is it is not told WHY the engagement was broken off one week before the wedding. If Christine wasn't even being courted at that time how would she have any influence over Kody's decision to call off the wedding. I heard it more of Christine saying to herself or as an aside, Oh, now it is still a possibility for me since he called it off. Not that she was the direct reason for the breakup.

You mention multiple other women within the first minute. Who’s to say Christine’s talking head isn’t referring to one of these women? All she says is she didn’t try to prevent a marriage “again”. It’s probably bad editing by tlc. This might be a 4th woman after marriage she’s talking about. I think they’re talking about different people. Cody’s story absolutely makes sense. Christine was royalty and he cared about status.
