Dating didn't exist until the 1920s. It's strange how people can think something that is found nowhere in the Bible is somehow biblical.

What if one of you hast a “past” and the other doesn’t?

Umm.. you shouldn't be courting infants? lol. Seriously though, you both have a past. The question is, have you both found Christ and accepted Him as your Lord and Savior? Have you both chosen from today to follow Him? Have you repented?

I suppose it depends on what the “past” entails. The blood of Christ cleanses all sins, however, we still have to live with the consequences of our actions so there might be some deal breakers for different people. For example some people would never consider single parents, or recovering alcoholics as prospective spouses, because the consequences of those choices may be too great for them to handle. Others may decline spouses who are not virgins (male or female) or who are recovering porn users, again because the consequences of these life choices may be too severe to overcome. It depends on the measure of grace that different people have been given by the Lord.

@@owamuhmza There's a reason why Jesus said, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." Do these people "declining" spouses because of this or that really think they're going to live their whole lives without sinning also? People rarely quote the entire sentence when Jesus says: "Judge not lest you be judged BY THE SAME MEASURE."

@@mikerivers7559 It’s not a denial of one’s sin nature to have biblical standards. Usually people who have walked in obedience by being chaste, not abusing substances or breaking the law, being financially responsible and applying themselves to growing in righteousness, are trusting the Lord to bring a like minded spouse their way. It’s judging rightly to discern what red flags may hamstring the future marriage, and yes if a prospective spouse judges them by the same measure they will pass with flying colours.

ok, half way in and I"m realizing this is primarily for 20somethings. I was hoping to glean something for my age. This should be titled "Courtship for 20 year olds for dummies" because after a certain age, mom and dad aren't part of the process any longer. thanks anyway. Constructive criticism: tilting your head slightly back and pushing your hands forward constantly is a body language signal saying, "I don't want to be talking here. Don't you know this already? Why do I have to say this?" You may or may not be thinking that, but it looks like that. Your body language is distracting. Especially the hands going everywhere. You almost never stop moving your hands. And you're gesticulating to the right of you like there's something over there or next to you. I recommend taking a public speaking course. Just my observation, but you actually look extremely uncomfortable speaking in front people and can't wait until it's over. Just some constructive criticism. God bless and take care.

1) I'm definitely older, much older, and I got a lot out of this --for helping others 2) as for the body language, it didn't come across to me the same as to mikerivers at all

2 things to respond to this comment: (1) Sure maybe 1 out of 12 of his points may not apply to “older” folk, but certainly the others are timeless principles that are outside of age. (2) I never got to the body language conclusion that you did. In fact I thought he looked comfortable, maybe too comfortable on stage.

@@siopulutua too comfortable? haha. Actually, maybe he is very comfortable because he is acquainted with his audience in that context.
