I remember buying Skyrim release day during my third year of university. I made the dumbest excuses to skip tutorials and lectures. Think I even said my door had frozen shut (that one was taken well, the city was slammed with a terrible ice storm off the North Sea that year and people were literally breaking their hips walking down the main street). I skipped post-exam drinks. The best part was, everyone else was the same! We'd talk about our adventures at coffee shops between the lectures we absolutely had to go to. One guy took a solid week to leave Whiterun Hold. My then girlfriend is now my wife. We were just about to get our dog who we still hang out with every night on the couch. I have a kid. I get tired of it sometimes, but I don't think I'll ever stop playing Skyrim. Enough time goes by that I feel the call again. The impact games have on the heart and mind can never be understated. I think it's our answer to adventuring. Can't explore the Earth, can't explore the stars. Gaming fills a niche in our souls as conflicted explorers and wanderers stuck in a weird time where we can't do much of either. And Skyrim just hit that so perfectly in 2011.

To be fair Morrowind and Oblivion were just as good when they came out. They'd do better to full scale remake them than slap ES VI in our faces and create another Starfield travesty. I was 19, my older brother and I went to the video game store despite the heavy snow and ice on the ground. Just getting there was it's own questline. We got there right before they closed and got one of the last copies, brought it home in time for the next round of snow to start falling. The first look at this game had us completely hooked. We stayed up til 5am playing it and talking more than we had in months before that. I sorely miss that moment, we haven't talked like that in a long time.

Me and 2 of my friends pre-ordered it at Gamestop and spent the time before midnight on release day buying a horde of food and snacks and setting up 3 TVs with 3 Xbox 360s in my friend's basement. We picked up the games at midnight, installed the day one patch, and then spent the next 25 hours playing together.

Getting a little too specific lol, in 2011 I was a very poor college student in a dorm running a cracked version of Skyrim that could just barely handle my laptop, something like 98C temps from my CPU with a little fan I added to the vent to keep it from going nuclear. Kept the room a little warm, since the dorms were like prison blocks lol very cold usually, and I remember it did snow a lot that year. Played late into the night with the snow, cold, Junior mints and hot chocolate lol, so strange how you end up missing even the hardest of times because you treasured a simple game that much which was the highlight of a long day.

I was here once. My much older brother asked for Skyrim for Christmas 2011, I had never heard of the Elder Scrolls before since I was only 11 and hadn’t been introduced to any other RPGs. I was amazed by the overall look of the game, and especially the soundtrack. Watched him play through to traveling to Riverwood before we put it down for the day. It wasn’t long before I was asking him if I could play too and since I could have my own save on the PS3 that worked out great. 100s of hours and 13 years later I still can’t get this game out of my head. Even when I’m taking a break from it for months or over a year, I still think about it and just how special it is. Even through the phases where I mod the hell out of it and think, “What was Bethesda thinking/doing when making this mechanic, location, etc.” when really they did exactly what they needed to at the time. I’m thankful that the game has lived on in popularity all this time because I can’t see myself ever forgetting about it.

I have purchased this game 3 separate times. Once on 360, once on the One, and once on PC. I've played it so many times, I've explored every nook and cranny. I have lots and lots of fond memories of playing this game. When I try to go back and replay it, it just doesn't hit the same. I've tried adding mods to make it feel fresh, but it just doesn't do it. Nothing can bring back that feeling of wonder and awe while playing it, except the music. The music stores all the memories, the music reminds me of those times and bring my mind back to that feeling. It's the last standing feeling of playing that game in its prime. I'm not sure a new Elder Scrolls even if epic would ever bring that level of joy again. Something about having nothing else to do in college so I could just get completely, fully, and utterly sucked into this world for hours and hours at a time. RIP Skyrim, you were a treat to the world. I hope I hear this music in my later years and it still invokes these feelings.

I've made such beautiful memories playing Bethesda games, I just can't wait to find the next game or next adventure in life that will make me feel that way again. All my life I have been ridiculed by playing games from my family, they will never understand the beautiful times I've made playing these beautiful games. Thank you so much for a chunk of my childhood.

Last year I released an original song called "Skyrim Eyes" on Skyrim's birthday, 11/11... Just because the love for a game has never been as profound as this 😻

As an early birthday present, my parents let me stay up late on November 10th, get Skyrim at the midnight release at my local gamestop, and call in sick to school on 11/11. I had sunken hundreds of hours into Oblivion, Fallout 3 and new vegas. There are few times in my life that i look back on more fondly than skyrim’s release. Uncovering everything for the first time, having those discussions with my friends over xbox live as we played, all taking our own paths in the game. Great times.

Skyrim didn't just influence the course of my life, it basically shaped the direction of it, from my freshman year in high school onwards. Kind of wild when I stop and think about it.

Man. I can distinctly remember getting Skyrim. I had the choice of getting one of my games early for Christmas. I was in high school. I had to choose between either black ops 1 or 2 (I can’t remember which one it was that was coming out at the time) or Skyrim. And I chose Skyrim. I remember being in Xbox live party chats with my friends as they were playing the new COD. I remember being slightly jealous, but at the same time I didn’t care because I was so LOST in the world of Skyrim. I remember for thanksgiving break just playing it all day and all night. Was such a good time.

I first played Skyrim 9 years ago today (13 November 2015) and I felt like I was so late to the game. I'm not much of a gamer, never have been but I feel like Skyrim is perfect for anyone. You can get as involved or uninvolved as you like. I've clocked countless hours over multiple saves and even though I've explored the entirety of the map, completed storylines and nothing surprises me anymore, there is a comfort in Skyrim that is just unmatched. I'm sure like every Skyrim/Elder Scrolls fan, I'm looking forward to ES6 whenever in the distant future it may be released. I hope it's excellent. I hope it's all it's being made out to be. But, Skyrim will always have a legacy entirely of its own.

@@Wadiyatalkinabeet_ In 2011, I was in my early 20s. I'm now fast approaching a birthday that most would consider "pushing 40," myself included. I don't wanna. It's weird. In my head, I'm 25, maybe pushing 30. In reality, I'm old enough to have teenagers. Which, incidentally, I do. It's weird, man. It's weird. A blessing, but still weird.

Alright this one hits close to home. I've long had a fascination with nostalgia, it's a lot like chasing that dragon that you know you'll never reach. It's always felt to me like a desperate want to be back in that time, state of mind, feeling etc. again. Maybe one day, or in the next life, we will find a way to finally harness that feeling. As for now, safe travels wanderer.
