I remember buying Skyrim release day during my third year of university. I made the dumbest excuses to skip tutorials and lectures. Think I even said my door had frozen shut (that one was taken well, the city was slammed with a terrible ice storm off the North Sea that year and people were literally breaking their hips walking down the main street). I skipped post-exam drinks. The best part was, everyone else was the same! We'd talk about our adventures at coffee shops between the lectures we absolutely had to go to. One guy took a solid week to leave Whiterun Hold. My then girlfriend is now my wife. We were just about to get our dog who we still hang out with every night on the couch. I have a kid. I get tired of it sometimes, but I don't think I'll ever stop playing Skyrim. Enough time goes by that I feel the call again. The impact games have on the heart and mind can never be understated. I think it's our answer to adventuring. Can't explore the Earth, can't explore the stars. Gaming fills a niche in our souls as conflicted explorers and wanderers stuck in a weird time where we can't do much of either. And Skyrim just hit that so perfectly in 2011.

Kept the room a little warm, since the dorms were like prison blocks lol very cold usually, and I remember it did snow a lot that year. Played late into the night with the snow, cold, Junior mints and hot chocolate lol, so strange how you end up missing even the hardest of times because you treasured a simple game that much which was the highlight of a long day.

I was here once. My much older brother asked for Skyrim for Christmas 2011, I had never heard of the Elder Scrolls before since I was only 11 and hadn’t been introduced to any other RPGs. I was amazed by the overall look of the game, and especially the soundtrack. Watched him play through to traveling to Riverwood before we put it down for the day. It wasn’t long before I was asking him if I could play too and since I could have my own save on the PS3 that worked out great. 100s of hours and 13 years later I still can’t get this game out of my head. Even when I’m taking a break from it for months or over a year, I still think about it and just how special it is. Even through the phases where I mod the hell out of it and think, “What was Bethesda thinking/doing when making this mechanic, location, etc.” when really they did exactly what they needed to at the time. I’m thankful that the game has lived on in popularity all this time because I can’t see myself ever forgetting about it.

I have purchased this game 3 separate times. Once on 360, once on the One, and once on PC. I've played it so many times, I've explored every nook and cranny. I have lots and lots of fond memories of playing this game. When I try to go back and replay it, it just doesn't hit the same. I've tried adding mods to make it feel fresh, but it just doesn't do it. Nothing can bring back that feeling of wonder and awe while playing it, except the music. The music stores all the memories, the music reminds me of those times and bring my mind back to that feeling. It's the last standing feeling of playing that game in its prime. I'm not sure a new Elder Scrolls even if epic would ever bring that level of joy again. Something about having nothing else to do in college so I could just get completely, fully, and utterly sucked into this world for hours and hours at a time. RIP Skyrim, you were a treat to the world. I hope I hear this music in my later years and it still invokes these feelings.

Broken tendons, 4 packs of e-sigs and a controller. God damn, winter never felt colder

Wow, that brought me back. It was cold and snowy too. Man, I remember looking forward to 11.11, even told my brother about it a few months prior. Time sure flies huh?

There was no Christmas break for me. I had to suffer Skyrim withdrawal all through work during the first few weeks after it was released.

Incredible game I hope anyone who worked on it over the years before it released feels proud of what they made

Man I remember skipping school on release day and playing the whole weekend. Wish I could go back to 2011 and relive skyrim for the first time, a much simpler time

Since then 2011 has become nostalgic?!

@@Wadiyatalkinabeet_ In 2011, I was in my early 20s. I'm now fast approaching a birthday that most would consider "pushing 40," myself included. I don't wanna. It's weird. In my head, I'm 25, maybe pushing 30. In reality, I'm old enough to have teenagers. Which, incidentally, I do. It's weird, man. It's weird. A blessing, but still weird.

Alright this one hits close to home. I've long had a fascination with nostalgia, it's a lot like chasing that dragon that you know you'll never reach. It's always felt to me like a desperate want to be back in that time, state of mind, feeling etc. again. Maybe one day, or in the next life, we will find a way to finally harness that feeling. As for now, safe travels wanderer.

I remember living with my girlfriend, at that time, in our first apartment and playing this game when it first came out on PS3. It was such a magical game. It will always hold a special place in my heart, unlike my ex-girlfriend 😆
