The Lalanders make delicious Christmas treats that can be enjoyed by all of the chateau's inhabitants during the festive season...
It's that time of year again - CHRISTMAS AT THE CHATEAU has begun! Happy Advent!
Here is the fourteenth video in our daily Advent Calendar series. Each day will bring a different surprise - but you can expect a mixture of exuberant decorations, seasonal florals, delicious food, gift ideas, musical treats and even a little Christmas carpentry...
***To download this year's Lalande wrapping paper designs, based on my father's medieval paintings, the link to the shop is***:
sellfy.com/chateau-de-lalande...
They are available at €5 per image, or €10 for four colours.
I had hoped to have the papers printed in order to sell them ready-made, but with all of the Covid postal delays that's proved impossible. I had mine printed by Zazzle, and scaled the pattern up online so that I have both regular and large scale versions here for Christmas. You're all welcome to do the same in order to have large rolls made, or to simply print them on your home printers for very small parcels! But please only use them for private (not commercial) use.
To see last year's 2019 Day 14: • THE CHATEAU ADVENT CAL...

Look to the Heavens on December 21st, beginning of Winter Solstice (also my eldest son's birthday) because the star of Bethlehem will be seen for the first time in 800 years. Jupiter and Saturn will be very close to one another and the astronomers believe that's what makes the star of Bethlehem.

Sandra Westley that’s really odd Christ was really born about October, so it’s a bit odd to show up in December, if you think he was 33 and a half years when he died round about Easter time. His birth is only celebrated at Christmas time but it was a pagan festival originally that sort of amalgamated together.

as an astrologer, generally speaking, we (very general 'we') accept Donald Jacobs chart of March 1st 7 BC - & it's quite the chart I tell ya ;) This conjunction at the solstice is at zero Aquarius: it's the herald - & this, as all things can be for good or evil - we shall see how the souls of human beings manifest these energies on earth As is said: 'on earth as it is in heaven' - let's hope that mantra prevails :)

@@mmeduplechin1577 that’s exactly why I’m extremely cautious around anyone I don’t know. Nice to see Mandy bake German cookies, which are the same recipes my mom and grandma used to make. Vanillakipferl is the family favorite. Luckily, I inherited my grandma's metric scale, since we measure by volume in the US instead of weight for baking. Selmar's bonfire reminded me of a tradition at our church on the evening of Epiphany. Everyone would bring their undecorated Christmas trees to fuel a huge bonfire, and we'd gather around it and sing Christmas carols. After the church service we'd enjoy hot chocolate and leftover Christmas cookies. A beautiful way to end the Christmas holiday and a good excuse to have a bonfire!

Empanada (panada) is also popular here in Indonesia, usually filled with spicy tuna. And we have a really similar fried savory snack, it's called Pastel, usually filled with chopped potatoes, carrots and eggs sometimes, but with thinner (and crunchy) dough. We also make Mandy's crescent cookies in an exactly same style every year in Moslem's fasting-month closing celebration, we called it Putri Salju (Snow White)!

Those sweets sure looked delicious! I would need to taste at least one of each! That was cute that "Selmar, every time I look at a fire, there is you in the distance behind the sparks, mastering it" said Stephanie. Yes, he is the spark that causes the light to shine in the dark of the Chateau de La lande! He knows how to light up the end of each party. (Philip had fun ) lol Loved watching everyone baking and German favorites and each country's favorites. La landers Eat on! This is the season of joy and love. ** Stephanie, Wonder if all of us watchers of the vlogs that would like, can add "ONE special baking recipe to share of Christmas sweets, eaten in their homes?" Perhaps, just perhaps next year (if not this?) would be tried and added to one on the list of' La land's Holiday sweets?' Am sure not everyone would write one, so it would maybe be workable to add a few? Just a thought. Then you would get some from all over I think? Not all would probably add one so it would be workable think? We could also represent various areas of the world too? Maybe each one of our ladies would not mind baking one of the recipes listed on the vlog? If the time ever allowed? Or next year even? Just a thought?

I'm also from Germany and I must tell you that the Vanillekipferl (your Christmas croissants) get even better if you leave them in a tin for a few days😍

I made the mistake of watching this while being on the commute back from work and it made me even hungrier! So I spent an hour thinking about empanadas and Plätzchen while having nothing to eat :) This did inspire me to do Vanillekipferl with my nephew at the weekend. They did not turn out as well as Mandy's I'm afraid...

I was very impressed with Marie and her assertive attitude! It takes a lot sometimes, to stand your ground! Well done assertive women!

Thanks for cookies recipes, Mandy. We all are vegetarians in my family, we don't eat eggs. And we will enjoy these!
