Today we are reviewing a new model from Christopher Ward called C65 Aquitaine. Like the Sealander I got recently but different. While that one was a sports GMT watch, this one is more of a vintage inspired diver!
As usual stay tuned for the full review!

I have several CW watches including two recent Sealanders. Under macro, everything is totally immaculate. CW have impeccable customer service and would certainly replace anything that slips through QC.

I have three CW watches as well, with no dust or scratches on the hands anywhere.

This doesn't look like a QC fault though to me, it looks very amateurish how it even got like that in the first place (that's not QC, that's actually a fault with the manufacturing side of things). Awful that: a) it even got like that b) that their QC didn't pick it up. c) surely this can't be a complete one off - really bad that, leads to a lot of distrust in Christopher Ward as a company for something that is around £1000.

I received my Sandstone Aquitaine GMT on Friday, which was a sunny day here and from first opening the box the quality of the watch was apparent, the finish and looks were superb. This said the legibility for me in simply telling the time wasn't good as the hands, dial and markers seemed to blend together in the sunlight as such I have decided to return the watch for an exchange for the Black version where I'm certain my issues will be resolved. I really like the Sandstone dial and had the hands been blue and GMT hand a complimentary colour I would not be asking for an exchange. All in all though, the quality of the Christopher Ward watches is superb and belies their price.

I have had my sand and blue GMT for just over a week now and its it's perfect. The hands under magnification are flawless as is the rest of the watch. However the bracelet has nipped a few hairs on my wrist.

You're right about what a difference it makes in black. I had been debating the blue, but as soon as I saw this I knew it was the one. Don't really need a GMT so I'm (im)patiently waiting for the 3-hander to be done in black, and then it's an instant buy.

Yeah it's like the only diver ever released without a black/white option and I don't know why.

I love the blue and white, messaged them on instagram to ask if they’d be doing it without the gmt since it’s a useless complication to me and they said no but they’d pass it on to their designers. They’d easily get my money with black and white or blue and white non gmt For now I went with the sealander 3 hander in white , we’ll see how that ends up feeling

@@danielkiekens2590 I really can't believe they haven't released the 3-hander in black yet. It's only the most popular dial color there is. The mind boggles at the decisions watch companies make, big and small alike.

I doubt they were supplied scratched.. more like scratched during Installation?
@mariog7213
@mariog7213 Жыл бұрын
I mean. On one hand, it’s less likely they were supplied scratched because there should be some quality control. However, their quality control obviously has faults because it was still shipped scratched. So, who knows. But either way, not good

The CW Aquitaine in blue is currently my favorite next watch. However, I cannot get one because they have no dealers near me and they block me from their site because I won't accept their wretched pop up cookie demands. Oh well - I guess I'll just have to wait untill cookies are outlawed - which seems to be taking for ever.

I don't know, there is something about the dial that bugs me. I think it's the blip on second hand closely resembling the round indices. I think it would be better without it

its true even rolex have issues with hands. But never on this level! this was just a deal breaker for me. if your going to make everything so perfect ,as they did with case etc. make it all perfect. btw, April 3, Christopher Ward is increasing prices regardless. Im not impressed.

While I love most of CW's designs and am very happy with my C63 Auto (whose hands are finished to perfection, BTW :D ), I think they should really go more for smaller sizes. If there's one thing I'd criticize about my C63 it's that it wears a little too large. Well, that and the 20 to 18mm taper of the otherwise excellent bracelet (I'd prefer 20 to 16). It doesn't really look like a 39mm on wrist, especially compared to my Steinhart 39mm divers. Same with this gorgeous new GMT, which I think is a tad too large at 41mm. Especially since it's a retro design which, IMO, would be much more elegant looking in a smaller size. 39 or even 38mm would be perfect for this thing. I'm still hoping for a smaller version of the Tide-model which I find absolutely gorgeous but at 42mm it would just be way too large for my 17cm wrist.
@kuratovsky
@kuratovsky 2 жыл бұрын
I absolutely agree with your point, however, it should be noted that it's not necessarily the C63 Auto wearing larger, but the Steinhart diver wearing smaller than their case size would indicate. Dial diameter plays a significant role in perceived size, which results in a diver generally wearing smaller than a regular watch of the same size due to the usually wider bezel of the former.
@1SaG
@1SaG 2 жыл бұрын
@@kuratovsky Oh yeah.. you're absolutely right about that. I probably should've said that the C63 should also be available in a smaller size and that 39mm is a bit too large for this sort of watch - at least according to my taste. Haven't measured it, but the dial is probably larger on these things than on a typical 39 mm diver - and if it isn't, it still looks larger since there's no dive bezel surrounding it. It's probably both, but I can't be 100% sure about that. I do wonder if it's a cost thing or if their customers still prefer larger watches - generally speaking. They seem to have scratched all of the 38mm Trident versions except the black one and apart from some other retro models, everything else they sell is on the larger side. I thought that Rolex going back to 36mm on the Explorer would be an indication that smaller sports-watches are making a comeback - plus Steinhart seem to be focusing quite a bit more on their 39mm O1s than only a couple of years ago, so there must be a market there for these "old school"-sized watches.

I have the blue GMT and I'm not a big fan of the solid color faces. The white face looks better and more vintage timeless, but that's just me. I can see this watch matching your style and logo though. Also the hands are flawless and scratch-free on mine under macro, so hopefully it's just the share model. You should get this watch for yourself!

Stick with the C-65 Dartmouth black dial, much better looking than this generic trendy diver which seems to be competing with a number of clones. Oris Aquis? No flaws on mine under macro, certified chronometer et al. I hope Christopher Ward are not pandering to trends, not pandering to trends made then unique in the first place. If you start believing you are more than a micro brand and churning out watches at the risk of compromising on build quality to satisfy demand, that's against the principles of the company.

The true flag of Englant is not the red cross on a white ground,although it is integrated into our union flag.It is merely bragging rights for a battle in France in medieval times and was the flag of a small French town.The true flag of England is that of three lions.Unfortunately,that wouldn't fit well on a watch dial.
@ericgrace9995
@ericgrace9995 2 жыл бұрын
Nope. The 3 lions*( couchant) are actually leopards and were the coat of arms of Richard Lionheart. He added a 3rd leopard to the Norman banner of William the Conqueror who used two leopards. This 'little cats' banner is still used as the flag of Normandy, although 3 leopards are also commonly used. The red cross on white background seems to have been adopted at around the same time as king Richard and Philip of France determined that their soldiers should wear crosses of red and white respectively to distinguish themselves from one another while on a joint crusade. It's maritime use seems to have come through an alliance with Genoa whose ships and city flew the red cross. The Genoese were a major maritime power and this common symbol ensured protection for English shipping.

Hmm, I think the bezel would look pretty cluttered with all 24
@Xoan-Diaz
@Xoan-Diaz Жыл бұрын
@@seayak i agree. But usually it's done with dots or thin lines marking the odd hours. It helps with readability, which they choose to sacrifice for the benefit of "innovation" (look, our 24 hour bezel has only 12 marks) and a "cleaner" design (which in fact it is).
