The PRX has really grown on me the more I’ve seen it, but this CW 12 has really caught my eye as an alternative to the PRX/Genta 70s integrated style but with a higher finishing - something I’ve always thought the PRX lacked for its massive hype. The big question: is the CW really worth double the price of the PRX 80?

The PRX 35mm Quartz is the go to. Affordable, looks good, around $300 New. Even with a big wrist I would go with the 35mm version. If you want to spend $700 on a watch, I would buy the Seiko Presage Sharp Edge or even save until you can buy a CW The Twelve. My humble opinion.
@dooginator2008tx
@dooginator2008tx Жыл бұрын
I like that take. There’s zero quality difference in the bracelet and case between the quartz PRX and the automatic, so if you really want the PRX, the best value is probably the quartz. The reason the get the auto is if you absolutely want the auto and/or the textured dial.
@TheWatchOut

Yes, I don't necessarily disagree. I went for the Powermatic 80 because I like automatic movements, and I prefer the colours on the powermatic variants. But the quartz version is a solid watch for most people 👍

I think it's better to think of the price diff as @$600 rather than double. If you were comparing a $5000 watch vs a $5600 watch you might well say they cost almost the same. My point is there is certainly $600 greater value in the CW. Very well done video! Thx
@TheWatchOut
@TheWatchOut Жыл бұрын
Agreed. Something else that came to my mind later, was that rather than comparing the CW to the PRX, we could compare it to a watch costing 5,6 or 7 thousand dollars. The CW has the finish to rival more expensive watches and provides much better value.

If price were no object, I'm betting most would choose the CW. Understandably taste and preferences are subjective, however compared side by side in the metal, it is very easy to spot that the quality of the CW is a step or two above the PRX. Let me say it like this, I've owned the Zenith Defy Classic, a watch that was over 5k, and very similar in appearance to the 12. The 12 that I own is right there with tye Defy in fit and finishing quality. If not neck and neck, it's close. When I looked at a PRX, its a good watch for under 1k, and a fine purchase. I was debating getting one. But at the end of the day, it is what it is. Decided quckly on the 12 when I saw it in person. To me, it was worth the additional $600.00.

Seems to me the CW is just trying too hard, stuffing too many elements on the watch that don't end up meshing. The faceted face. The overly textured dial with the overly deep markers. The inner ring... It just ends up lacking sophistication, even if all those elements are executed well. The face has better proportions and the bracelet is much more cohesive, but as a whole it's an attack on the senses (and I LOVE the purple dial). Perhaps it works for those who want a bit more show? On the whole, I'd take the Citizen Tsuyosa - cleaner and better balanced than the PRX...

Although you discussed and finish of the bracelets, you neglected to touch on the build quality. The push pin links on the PRX just make it a much cheaper bracelet in comparison to the one on the CW. I have the green dial. I personally love how they do the dials as even though it has colors, it's more reserved so it could go with any outfit in any color easy but still looks elegant. And thus... The darker hue dials like the black, blue and green won't be popping as much as the ice blue or the white/rose gold pvd). When I was in the boutique I was having a hard time getting either the white dial pvd or the green one. In the end I chose the green version as eventhough I liked bi-color watches, I'd rather have it in real rose gold rather than pvd even if the price went up due to that, as pvd per usual would get patinated and you can't touch it up otherwise it'll scrape all the coating off.

Monta makes wonderful watches, I have a Skyquest and love it. However, they are more expensive than the CW 12, which I also have. The 12 is $1225 plus tax, while the cheapest Monta, the Triump starts at 1700 plus tax... pretty much the same difference between a PRX and the 12. @@davids.2317 I'm a WOSTEP, OWME and Omega Certified watchmaker. I can tell you that it is very simple to tweak the rate than the common regulator pins. Gyromax by Patek and AP indeed would need a tool to tweak the rate, for PM80 it only need screwdriver to do so, just rotate the eccentric screw in the balance arm with the round part away or towards the center to slow or fasten the rate, and it didn't risk of changing the beat error too, unlike the standards of regulating pins which usually sandwhiced with stud holder, when a watch too tight during adjustment it could change the beat error, when it's too loose a slight shock could affect the accuracy as the regulator also moved.

Imo* Both r too big for your wrist and for mine from your video, which is why im selling my prx. The CW looks nice, but imo the logo kills the dial. No one, including myself, didn't know this to be the cw logo, and we all know the most important thing about a watch is the name... just how it is so we can all show off, lol. I like the prx and may try the 35mm, but that just sounds scary small, lol. It's a def pass on the cw. It's just off imo*. Cheers!

CW is a better watch, think that’s kinda clear. In the real world, the cost of the CW is getting close to 3 times as expensive. The CW is gonna set you back $1400. The prx you can find for under $500 with a few minutes of digging. The CW is “better” but it’s not three times as good.

The PRX just looks better. Better proportions. The dial on the CW looks too big, but it seems to be due to the shorter overall case, or the case looks shorter. The big indices look awful as well. The dial pattern is just too much. It looks like it's trying to outdo the PRX but is failing by trying too hard. Definitely not worth the extra money. I know you said its thinner, but it looks really thick. It almost looks as thick as the PRX Chronograph. Objectively, even when you have them both on, the PRX is just sitting better imo, though I know you thought it went the other way. Weird, I'm thinking the PRX is looking and sitting better, while you were spruiking the CW. Oh well, different tastes :)

I agree. The deciding thing for me was the dial. The waffle is a little too pronounced on the CW as well as the induces are also too big. The CW looks cheap from watching the videos. Whereas the PRX looked better on my wrist than in videos. I didn't realize that there were additional fees to bring it into the US. So, yes at $1400, on a video the CW should smoke the PRX, but doesn't seem to do that.

One thing that wasn't mentioned in regards to the movement, is Tissot Powermatic Movement cannot be serviced as they used Plastic Parts in it. When you send the Tissot for Service the Movement is replaced with a refurbished Movement and the one inside removed to be Refurbished. The Christopher Ward SW movement can be easily serviced anywhere that service Selita Movements
