Well I always look at the lowest prices for the watches actually listed on C24, of course needs to be comparable in condition, box papers etc. I have sold 3 watches on C24 and the price I got was around what I expected. The key is to list around the same price as the lowest in your country, and not accept the first offer you get, if it’s low…

Probably your best video!! Very interesting Cris and the info helps us understand a lot about the market 🙏🏻
@undermuscled738113 күн бұрын
I have sold on C24, usually it means adding enough into the price to allow for commission and haggling. Buying vintage or near vintage is a minefield, which can leave you out of pocket. I purchased a 14060, which was sold as complete set and functioning with no faults. The first issue was with the crown, when adjusting the time, it kept losing traction and slipping. Then the time keeping was poor, running slow. Apparently the watch has been serviced a few years earlier, no receipt provided. I sent it to a RSC, if I has agreed to all of the repairs, it would have cost nearly $4000.

If margins are "so low" on expensive watches, how come thousands of watch dealers have been showing their wealth on SoMe (living in masions, driving Lambos/Ferraris, owning personal watch collections worth millions of dollars etc. etc.) from ripping of both watch sellers and watch buyers during the last 10-15 years and still do it today??? From: A seasoned collector from looong before Instagram and the Internet existed where we were paying very little money for vintage Rolex, Audemar and Omega!
@timemerchantsmtlАй бұрын
@@PeterZandorff it is one thing to make 200$ on a 1000$ datejust, an other to make 5-800 and sell 15 of them a day at 10-15k each. Margins remain low but the market has exploded. Also getting lucky and finding a Paul Newman 20 years ago would make you 10k. Now 10% margin on 3-500k is a LOT more $
@PeterZandorffАй бұрын
@@timemerchantsmtl I partly agree, but the sellers I´m referring to are mainly trading vintage Rolex for instance the 5513 which is NOT RARE and were produced in the millions within more than 30 years (1959-1989) for astronomical amounts, often 30.000$+ despite that they were trading for less than 5.000$ 10 years ago in Europe no matter the condition! Some US dealers are definetily ripping off the customers! And I DO remember the Paul Newmans in the late 70's and 80´s, the AD's in my country, Denmark, couldn´t get rid of them since they were LADY SIZE (37mm) and UGLY... their price was way below 1.000$ LOL

Depends on each model but in general ch24 is not going to get your watches sold fast or at a generous price. No feedback for buyers, no feedback for private sellers... lots of lack of transparency doesn't allow construction of a solid name on their platform for private sellers both as a seller or buyer.

Remember: when you buy, you are paying retail. When you sell, you are selling for wholesale. BIG difference. Don't be fooled by how much your watch has "gone up." It has to go up a lot for you to just break even. And if you have a gain, it is taxable. Don't forget that.

Under the tax code you are not taxed on the money you make from selling a watch.

Well the value on C24 is usually over rated, still they take the value from actual sales, so it’s not all wrong. Still it’s not easy to get that price that a watch actually sold on C24, as if you go to any kind of dealer you will of course get less. If you want to get the price C24 suggest you will have to list the watch yourself, either on C24 or a similar market place. You must have some knowledge, you must put some time into it, take good photos and be careful how you describe the watch. Also take into account the fee that C24 charge, which is 6.5%, at least it was that last time I sold a watch there. I have sold 3 watches on C24 and I got around the price I expected, which was also reflected the value which C24 indicated before I listed them.

You're not wrong but since there's no realistic alternative to c24 online that will be the de facto price unless you luck out and find what you're looking for in a physical store.

Well I always compare with the lowest which is for sale, 30% under that is if you sell to dealers, not the so called general public. What do you think about Zenith Lupin the third final edition and the airweight cover girl limited editions? Should I go for one of them, which one should I choose if I want something classic and vintage inspired and is now the right time to purchase one of those or not?
@timemerchantsmtl2 ай бұрын
@@ImmortalGaming96 I own the original Cover Girl in NOS condition. They are well proportionned and reeditions are a well made, 1:1. I am not aware of the market for these in the past 6 months but I am sure you can find a deal that makes sense for you if you take your time. It is certainly not something you should consider as investment pieces if that is the question. They are very well made and easy to wear on leather too.

@@timemerchantsmtl I am not planning on investing in them, it would be nice to know if they at least retain their value and I am looking for something interesting and a little different, yet timeless and classic in design and am wondering between the two and if their prices are expected to go down in the near future or should stat relatively the same, also I am curious to know if they are currently worth it the premium over regular A384

@@ImmortalGaming96 hence my answer. I cannot forsee the future. I buy personal watches because I like them, value retention is not what watches are about. Yes and no, some watches with Val 72 sell for 2-3k usd yet some Rolexes with same movement fetch over 1 million. Movement is irrelevant for neo-vintage or vintage watches as the model and demand are overlooking the movements used.

Just think about that - you pay $4500 and the seller pockets only $3400.... it's also worse on ebay. If you were to buy local the seller would be making a better profit if they sold it to you for $1000 less than c24! As a buyer, the combination of scammers and fakes plus the convenience of a middleman service like c24 requires you to pay between 20-25% its real value. Buy local when you can, better cash.
@timemerchantsmtl2 ай бұрын
@@MrMadvillan yes that is pretty much it, I am Canadian therefore I was subject to exchange fees and other coumpounded fees but overall the difference between what the customer had paid including sales taxes and what I had cashed in was shocking. The 3400 included shipping as well on my part so it is a big difference. With Ebay I just paid 250 USD on a 4000 USD sale today which is much more in line with what it should be.
