Completely ruined my assembly pressing it in. Did everything to the letter. I highly recommend to anyone doing this section to buy the plastic piece Mopar wants you to buy, especially if you have to then use a homemade welded tripod that may not be exactly perfect. The tool is Part # 6227-2, and is called the "Dodge Alignment OD Section Tool." I did the method with removing the intermediate shaft as described and ruined my transmission. Spend the $25 on this tool. In addition, some things to add: When you spin the assembly freely at 34:45, a little wobble is normal (and can even be seen in the video), I spent way too long trying to see if that was something I messed up on. Use ATF +4 to soak, not DEX like is shown. Also, for those with 4WD vice 2WD, everything seemed the same except the bushing at the tail housing (which is not used), and the seal at that end is different (but was supplied in the kit). I couldn't do any of this without these videos, but learn from my mistakes and just get the darn alignment tool.

Hello , I'm having to rebuild the trans from my wife's 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It's the 46RH, and the new fiber discs and steels that came in the kit are 0.101 thinner after stacking, with the same number as it had factory. I added another fiber and steel to the stack and it now is 0.013 thicker than original. Is this acceptable? Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated. And, thank you for making all of these videos man. Without everything you do,, most of us all, would not even consider even trying to go inside of our transmissions. YOU ARE A LIFESAVER, MAN!! Thank you again, S. Rhudy

I realize this is old.. But, maybe helpful for someone else. I believe there are two 'versions' of the steels and pressure plates. 'First Design' steels are .70" thick and 'Second Design' are .065". Plates are different also. If your rebuild stack-up does not use the same version you will have a variance. You should also check the depth of the snap ring groove from the top of the housing to confirm what housing you have and consequently what stack-up to use. I would also consider that the stack you removed likely has some wear on it. .013" isn't much over 200k when you divide it per disc. I realize you added discs so it's not apples to apples. But still.. That's like .0008" (8 tenth's) wear per stacked unit. Imagine it was an engine... 8 tenths of bore wear would probably still be crosshatched. Meaning.. when it was new, the OG stack was a bit thicker. Just confirm the OD endplay/correct washer needed and its probably good. Also, Get the ATSG manual. Its all in there...

@@Avataranian it is, only tail stuff is different. But its self explanatory. Just pull old stuff out and take the corresponding new part out of the kit. The mechanic part though is same in both cases, just shorter output shaft.
@Avataranian
@Avataranian Ай бұрын
@@DO1TOB You rock. It ended up being a different seal (which was included in the rebuild kit) and you don't end up doing that bushing replacement that he does in this video (since the load is on the transfer case)

Thanks for the vid, my mickey moused compression tool for the OD direct hub and spring bent while i was compressing it, before i noticed it was bent it had already damaged the splines in the hub itself, i had to file them down and try again with a better tool so just saying for anyone else watching this whatever tool you use to evenly compress the hub make sure its a good one

A pipe of PVC of 4.5 inches diameter works. Just cut a hole so you can get to the snap ring.

🤔...U didn't realize the unevenness or outer round wobble of the splined hub when spinning it by hand after installing the shaft & it's components?? I know I did, just trying to figure out which one did I bend(spring, hub, or both)can't see bending the hub, possibly the spring tho🤔...Thanks for the heads up on that info tho, very much appreciated!

The 6 speeds, at least the 68RFE are based on the 5-45, and 45RFE transmissions. They are a different transmission altogether.

Hello, maybe I missed something somewhere, but all the literature I have seen on the internet has said to use ATF +4 for the 46RE, is it ok to use the dex/merc you are using at 23:08 as well? Thanks.

I believe his focus is teaching the process of installation rather than the details of products used to lubricate parts. If this was his actual rebuild, I am quite sure he will be using the correct fluid type for that application. Second, small amount of ATF labeled from another vendor would not be detrimental to the transmission. They do sell a bunch of garbage on the market (stop leak) that people use trying to remedy symptoms. These products are not unit specific.

Great vids with amazing detail but your punch is a safety hazard 3:38 The end is so mushroomed over that pieces are going start breaking off. And they can come off with great velocity. A metal projectile at speed is something to be avoided if possible. As soon as the end of my punches or chisels get bigger than the shaft I take them to the grinder and touch them up. Your punch looks like it's had a lifetime of neglect.

@@t.c.3027 I can't tell if you are kidding or if you are smoking crack. Maybe we're not talking about the same thing. I'm talking about the end you hit with the hammer. This is one of the worst, most mushroom over heads of a punch I have ever seen. The head is pushing twice the diameter of the shank of the punch. And it cannot possibly be flat. When the metal rolls to the outside like that it inevitably makes it high in the middle. That's why it's called mushrooming because it's rounded over on top and curled under on the bottom. "remember it's a large punch man! i.e.,perfect for the job at hand." I agree that it is the correct size. It just is dangerous because it probably never had any maintenance ever.
