12 years. It took me 12 years to find this video again. I couldn't remember anything about it. Just that it made me cry back then. Listening to it again in 2020, it still made me cry. That's great music.

Man, I've loved this piece since discovering them, 14 years ago. Su-Nung did one Hell of a job on the erhu when he was part of ChthoniC. Hats off and salutes to you, Mr. Chao. For that, you have my thanks.

BEAUTIFUL! Who says Asian folks don't have soul? Theirs is a whole different flavor of soul, IMO, that comes from a different place than in the average American's heart. Again, BEAUTIFUL.

I know this comment is REALLY old, but the video is entitled "Oriental Violin" because that's what the track is labeled on the official disc.

Because it would be an acurate way to describe what the instrument is in essence, not many people know what an Erhu is. Beside you've got to remember that since George Harrison began fooling around with sitar, and so many other artists, it has become pretty well-known in western culture.

This instrument is called the "erhu" or "hena." Saying "oriental violin" is really racist.
@hugeshows9 жыл бұрын
+jukabear The description may be lacking, but it's clearly not racist. If this is your definition of racism, you've lead an exceptionally sheltered life.
@torikitty63399 жыл бұрын
+hugeshows refering to anyone or anything asian as "oriental" is racist. Please do your research and dont tell asian/asian americans what is and what is not considered racist towards their own people.
@torikitty63398 жыл бұрын
And what's your point? Many Asian Americans have a problem with being referred to as a racist term like "oriental" because of the violent history in the U.S. toward asians and xenophobia. Since when you do you speak on behalf of any asian person or community?
@torikitty63398 жыл бұрын
+Luca B (Luke B) That's good for you however you don't speak on behalf of anyone in asian or asian american communities or it's topics regarding history and social dynamics. One might have friends or be surrounded by a lot of people from an asian community yet if you are not raised or perceived as such one will not understand how certain words or topics such as "oriental" could affect people in those communities. Yes Chthonic might choose to use the term "oriental" heavily but it is a term that is considered derogatory to many asians and asian americans due to histories of imperialism and being seen as "other" to western society. While I acknowledge that Chthonic is a Taiwanese band I also acknowledge that "oriental" is a derogatory term that refers to a many number or cultures and peoples. As an Asian American I am entitled to my opinion of how a term can be considered hurtful and derogatory towards my community regardless of what you think about it.
