Looks pretty similar to a soft-chew. Those work extremely well for smallmouth bass, especially in late summer, slow water conditions. I'm sure this would too.

Quick question, Tim. In your old chubby video, you tied down a strip of foam beneath the dubbed body, but in this version you skipped that step. What are the pros and cons of adding that extra strip of foam to the hookshank? Does the extra foam, by chance, help the fly to land upright?

The extra foam was there to help keep everything from rotating/slipping on the hook shank and maybe add just a bit of floatation. The combination of dubbing, adhesive and spread out wraps really does a better job of firmly anchoring the foam body to the hook shank while at the same time not taking away from the fly's floatability.
