22-250 brings the heat. I open the bolt and stand rifle vertical leaned against post or wall to cool every so often. Barrel acts like a flue and drafts cool air in from the bottom...good for barrel life.👍

Yes, actual group size is center-to-center. Otherwise, no group could be less than the bullet hole diameter. This rifle manufacturer and the heavy barrel combination will digest almost anything accurately. Use a slender barrel contour and see what happens next time. The harmonics of a slender contour are much more difficult to isolate.

I run H380 as well. Can't go wrong. As a matter of fact, I haven't seen a bad powder combo with this bullet yet. This just goes to show that a Savage 22-250 will just shoot. I don't mind the reduction of speed with RE-16. Upper 3400fps is still a screamer. Those chucks aren't going to out run it either way. Thanks and happy shooting!

It says you used new Lapua brass for this test? Was it a case your brass was getting old in your last video? I know after i get 5 or 6 firings on my brass it isnt near as accurate as the first few. Im going to try getting into annealing my brass to fix this. Good shooting.
@ChuckinTV5 жыл бұрын
Very good question. It was new brass in the last video as well. I just loaded the last 30 pieces of virgin Lapua brass today with, you guessed it, 36.5gr RE16. I bought 100 pieces of Lapua when I realized that I couldn't find Nosler brass in 22-250 anymore. So once I get it all fired once I will be sizing and re-evaluating my accuracy. Annealing might help in your case. I've seen where reaming and turning the necks can help tremendously. I haven't done any of this myself, I'm just referring to videos I saw. Thanks for watching.

Just curious how often and how do you go about cleaning your barrels? I have used wipe out in my tikka for years with great results. Lately have been trying to go longer between cleaning to allow more copper fouling but have not seen much of an improvement. Great shooting its always uplifting to have a range day with groups like that!
@ChuckinTV5 жыл бұрын
Thanks, haven't heard from you in a while. Haha. I'm still trying to find the sweet spot on when to clean, when not to. I think it's good to not clean until you witness a change in your accuracy. In this case, it was probably around 100-150 shots since I did any cleaning. I don't know exactly. I just used a wet patch of Hoppes Elite gel. I did two passes with a nylon brush and then a pass with a Bore Snake. That was probably just enough to knock out the excessive carbon and didn't do much to the copper. It obviously worked for the better. But if cleaning often works for you, keep on doing it. There's no sense in fixing what is not broken.
@joechrisman82575 жыл бұрын
Just like bullets n powder work in one rifle & not the next so is cleaning. Some every 50-60 shots clean, others every 200 I've even heard 300 shots before cleaning. I Alwaya try to swab some gun oil after every shooting & dry patch when i pull it back out to shoot.

Great groups! I have a can of RL16 and didn’t even think about using it in the .22-250. I may have to give that a try in my Savage. I noticed your group measurements were outside edge to outside edge. I usually report mine center to center. If you subtract the bullet diameter or measure inside edge to outside edge that will give you the center to center number. These groups are even more impressive reported that way. Thanks for the video!

try a magneto speed chrono works way better!!!!
@ChuckinTV5 жыл бұрын
I might try a Magneto at some point. A buddy of mine offered to let me borrow his. I think they have the potential to read the velocities more consistently. However, I don't want to do accuracy testing (load development) with them due to the fact that they are attached to the barrel. I think they would play with the barrel harmonics. So the accuracy node would be different with one attached versus one that is not attached. I think the Magneto would be a better way to measure a load that is proven to be accurate. I hope that makes sense. Thanks for watching.
@rootintootinshootinreloadi63453 жыл бұрын
I agree with Chuckin, i fail to see how a chrono attached to the barrel can give you proper barrel harmonics;it has to change your accuracy node.

bill shamblin Sir this is by far the most ignorant and dumb commentary I’ve ever received on any video. And I’ve seen some doozies over the years. You must’ve missed the part where I have a sand bag under the rear throughout the whole video. Second, I guess you don’t understand how editing works to shorten the time between shots. I suppose my one hole groups could’ve been tighter if it wasn’t for my “sloppy” technique.
@danc.53625 жыл бұрын
Yes I agree with that. The way I do it is do my load work up first then put the magneto speed on for the speeds. It’s alittle more time consuming but if your not in a hurry why not. I do a lot of that also my longest shot on one was 736yrds with a 300wm I also have a 6.5x47 lapua that I use great round not to popular yet here in the states everybody is crazy about the 6.5 creedmor. are you subtracting .220 from the way your measuring there ? Because your not measuring center to center unless u have your calipers set at -.220 when closed being your measuring one edge to other edge vs same edge (right to right or left to left ) or center center of hole .

I was just going for outside diameter measurements here. You would want to subtract .224 for the center to center. .224 is the actual diameter of the bullets
