Well, there are "basement dwellers" in Japan too who are just as aggressive, if not more than our own chuds. They're called hikikomori, and you're more likely to encounter an active member of the Yakuza than a hikikomori in the wild. Please note that not all hikikomori are Japanese chuds. Some are just burned out victims of a country that doesn't treat mental illness seriously.

A 2023 report by Niko Partners found that 72.3% of Japanese gamers aged 6-18 use consoles, making it the most popular platform for young gamers. I definitely do not like hearing any slander directed at it, especially when Joanna Dark is literally who I got my preferred name from. Also feels so weird people are basically resurrecting freaking phrenology of all things, and making it clear how little they realize face shapes are hardly all that consistent among humans in general. Multiculturalism, learning another language, I've realized its extremely necessary to develop a proper empathetic brain that's curious about learning new things, and not fearing anything, and it also helps compartmentalize your memories and thoughts, it does make your life feel more rich and full Hearing other people say they've never been around traveling, or learned something outside their normal life is weird to me, but I also understand it, it could've happened to me, had we never left I would've stayed a mostly ignorant person not ever knowing anything but my immediate surroundings, I would have been jobless, surfing all day, and skipping school, making bad choices, had I not gained new perspectives and ways of thinking. @roguesouleater
@roguesouleater 4 ай бұрын
Honestly, I don't like Yasuke as a playable character, though I think he would make an excellent side character. Assassin's Creed has always had you play as a "nobody" from the past who makes history by manipulating events and killing people from the shadows. Altair, Ezio, Connor, Edward, etc. all had their names and deeds lost to time until the Animus dredged them back to the surface via their descendant's blood. The players' interactions with historical figures is mostly as observers. We witness them make history (sometimes with our aid and other times right before we shank them.) Naoe The Ninja better fits this role, and I'd rather play mainly as her with Yasuke being an NPC ally like Da Vinci. As a samurai retainer, maybe Yasuke could smuggle her weapons, armor, etc. and provide training for those weapons (like firearms or bombs). He is a foreigner, and while he was brought a slave, he could've been a soldier/pirate beforehand or atleast seen those weapons in action. Hell, he could even support on missions by sniping off screen with an arquebues or jumping in when stealth fails.

@DarkEdge1231
@DarkEdge1231 4 ай бұрын
Yasuke had very little recorded history so he falls pretty close to being a “nobody” protagonist than any other historical figure in this games plus he is this big intimidating foreigner who stands out from everyone else makes it a lot easier for Naoe to perform her actions in the shadows if a lot of her actions are being easily covered behind by this big black dude diverting all the attention and bulldozing everything (and this reflects in the gameplay since he is a brute who is more up front and center). If anything Naoe and Yasuke is more of a much needed evolution of a tired formula that has existed for like 2 decades. Plus I consider Yasuke more of a secondary MC who is more of a support to the main character Naoe.
@ni9274
@ni9274 4 ай бұрын
We don’t know a lot about what Yasuke did during his time in Japan, and Yasuke is clearly not supposed to be a stealthy character changing the world from the shadow. Yasuke isn’t like most historical figures since we don’t know what he did in Japan (at least before nobunaga death) so they can make up whatever they want to make him fit inside the world of assassins creed.

The funny thing about those people commenting on AC3 in response to Shadows, is that AC3 was hated at the time for Conor being a Downgrade from Ezio and the ending to the Desmond trilogy being a disappointment.

24:15 that they didn’t edit out the disagreeing local is to their credit. Not that it forgives an overall negative intent, but at least they didn’t go out of their way to misrepresent the Japanese gaming culture. Like they do here in our country, the US.

Crossbows? First crossbow we know of is from 400BCE in China, it's possible to have existed earlier, as Heron describes a weapon very similar in description to a crossbow called gastraphetes, now, Heron was from the first century CE, but it is a commentary on the 3rd-century BCE engineer Ctesibius treatise on arrow making. Heron also talks about the gastraphetes as a forerunner to the technology that led to the invention of the catapult and Oxybeles which had it's first known mention in 420 BCE and 375 BCE so the only AC where crossbows could be argued to not exist given that we only have contextual evidence that they may have existed around that time is AC Odyssey, because even during AC Origins crossbows had existed for centuries by then, Romans used them, quite frequently in their legions.

I think the culture is generally conservative, just not in the way that is representative in the West. Some of the stuff wouldn't even be allowed here and would result in avenues to sue. Like, they still have overt social conservative positions on pda and traditionalist views on marriage and relationships. The culture centers around status and money as a central theme, more so than in the US. In places like Tokyo it'll be less conservative and more "liberal" as it is pretty diverse and has crazy amounts of adopted foreign sub-cultures, which is kinda cool. I did run into a cr-zy xenophobic nationalist in the Anime/Manga District (I forgot the actual name) who was dressed in cosplay. I was also in a bar where a person was basically cussing about us speaking under his breath in Okinawa, but that was in 2008-ish on a militarized island. By no means was this a majority, though. And most young people just wanted to have fun after work and on the weekends. The more rural areas or isolated bars put up restrictions on allowing foreigners to enter, though.

28:18 What is that even supposed to mean? An atheist is someone who is not a theist, and theist is someone who believes in a god. There is no "full on" atheist because you either are or are not an atheist (and therefore a theist).
@RSAgility

I tell people I'm apistivist atheist. I only believe in the evidence and proof. And... I can say without doubt, that any gods and religions made up by people are not real, no evidence, no need to believe it... Like leprechauns holding their little pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. Ridiculous beliefs in magic. How much evidence do I need to be convinced of something? Well, like science, with lots of evidence from different sources that come together like puzzle pieces to tie a bigger understanding of the natural world.(which I can test myself) Earth is round? How do you know that?! "Prove it!" I yell while looking to the flat horizons... And they did prove it.....they showed me evidence, And I can test it myself using only sticks, math and shadows from the sun.... And even then, many didn't believe, but then we went to space to see for ourselves, and we had predicted things correct thanks to science, previous evidences of outcome, and logic. If magic was real, hospitals would be filled with healers and politics and word events would be run by psychics... But thats not reality.😂

I looked through the comment's section of one of the Japnese trailers, and read some of them using YT's translation. They were all easy to read and made sense in English, maybe too much sense, considering that sentences in Japanese have a different structure from the ones in English, the kind of sense that isn't achievable by using an automatic word for word translator, like the one on YT. Almost as if they were first written in English and then badly translated to Japanese, but I guess I can't be sure. Also, yes, PC gaming isn't very popular on Japan, but AC Shadows isn't a PC exclusive, as far as I know.
